Study Environment

Wow old thread Mitsuki

See i never went to uni i got an apprentichsip so studying wasnt a big thing for me. I did have to go to college to get my degree in engineering but all exams were practical and i got my practice doing that by being at work. Basically i went to college 1 week a month til i got my degree then went back 2 days a month to get my higher degree. I dunno what its called.

The only thing i can apply this to is guitar practice. And thats serious for me. I cannot practice guitar in a messy room. It drives me insane. I think when you have to concentrate on something its nice to have space and cleanliness around you. A cluttered practice area makes my mind feel cluttered and i cant focus aswell as i can when things are how they should be, nice and clean. So i guess thats really my only major 'must' when it comes to practice.

I can't concentrate very easily if I'm in the presence of other people. My mind typically shuts off when around people anyway, but I guess there is also a part of me that feels threatened if we're reading the same thing. It feels like a race, and then I panic, and then if I speed up to appear intellectual I then realise that I'm thinking too much about speeding up and haven't actually remembered anything. I'm a slow and pedantic reader, I guess.

I sometimes hole myself up in the library if there is a quiet cubicle-type area free where I can sit and do work and forget that there is a universe somewhere out there. I can enter my own world and do things properly then.

Alternatively, I just do it at home if it is possible. I can shut my mind off from everything, and am more in command of my brain too. I can panic when I know there are people. At home, I'm relaxed and I guess I can focus more. It depends.

I tend to do one of three things while i'm studying, number 1 is to leave music playing in the background 'I personally like it quite loud' this makes sure that i'm not bored while I sit there typing all day :lew: number two is to leave something on the tele in the background, I tend to say on a weekend leave the F1 racing or a football match on in the background while I work, leaving the news on is something I do quite alot as well, as I love keeping up to date on what going on in the world. the final one is to leave anime playing on the other side of the monitor, defo now with my bigger screen, this tends to get less work done, but this helps. as I'm a kind of person that hates working in slient, I must always have something going on in the background :O

I'll be honest, I don't think i've studied a day in my life... for school exams I never did, not for anything. So I don't know what my ideal study environment would be. But i do know that i am very easily distracted. like... VERY easily. I get bored and fidgety too so perhaps the best place for me to study would be in a room with nothing to distract me. Only the things i need for study, that way I'd be forced to do it...or I'd sit there and twiddle my thumbs for hours...
