Am I the only one whose nearly nearly screamed or chucked the controller at the result screen whenever you finish a grueling battle only to see you spent way too long on it?

I admit it - I've gotten 0 Stars and 0 Points in a lot of battles (most of 'em boss battles), but c'mon! I spent 20 minutes on a god-awful hard battle, and I was suppose do it in only 6 minutes?

Are you friggin' serious?! :rage:

I can admit I'm not grasping the game mechanics 100%, but I refuse to believe I suck that badly that I'm not beating battles in a timely manner :jtc:

So am I the only loser, or do other people have rage stories to share? xD

Or anyone wanna brag about getting 5 stars in notoriously hard battles? -__-

Seriously, I wanna see these people who say the game is easy, or that they beat it in 40+ hours, because I need help D=

5 stars on prodclad :-)

but i know what your saying,

what buggs me is that your "skill" is rated simply by how fast you finish the encounter. which to me holds very little significance. they designed the game to be a bit flexible, allowing you to choose your prefered method of murder.

Personally, i like to play safe. i use sentinels alot, Sen/rav/rav or sen/com/rav works great for me, and just switch too sen/med/med when the sen is dieing. anyhow my point is in order to reach the goals they want you to pretty much abandon half the tactics in the game, and just NUKE NUKE NUKE... forget taking the time to put up synergist buffs or sab debuffs, which make the game fun, just kill kill kill...

so personally i dont care about their bullshit goals, ide rather play my characters to their full potential using their unique abilities... too me, guaging a persons skill on a fight would require looking at individual reactions to certain manuvers the enemy makes, defence as well as offence, versatility, and efficiency... so if im fighting a boss that hits my sentinel for 6k per hit, you bet your ass im switching to sen/syn/medand getting some buffs up...

turning a nasty predicimate into a skilled victory is where skil is gagued, and your ability to perform efficiently under various situations, not just how fast you mash the nuke button

I've never paid any attention to it, to be honest, unless I'm doing Mark Missions - I mean, asides from those, you don't get anything for doing it. I don't give a damn if I get five star ratings on Proudclad, Barthandelus or wheoever, what I care about is killing the boss and moving on with the story.

As for getting five stars on the Mark Missions, yes, standards set can be rather cruel at times...there is an accessory that lowers the bar a bit I think, but you've got to beat the hardest bloody mark in the game to get it, so unless you're an achievement/trophy fanatic it won't have any meaning to you when you get it ._.

I never liked the sound of this rating system before the game was released and I still don't like it now. It doesn't necessarily make the game more challenging (because it doesn't really punish you at all if you get 0 stars) at all. It just demands the player to finish the battle as fast as possible just to get some spoils that probably aren't worth much themselves.

I really just ignore it mostly. I got a few 1 stars in non-boss battles (later chapters) and I just shrugged my shoulders and carried on. Heck, I don't even care if I get less than 5 stars in missions. As if I have that much time or patience doing it again or trying to get all the trophies. :gasp:

Some battles do raise it ridiculously high for players. Don't let it get to you that much. As long as you emerge victorious and get CP out of it, I guess that's what matters.

Well, no matter how you look at it, victory is victory. Would I really care if I got a 0-star on a battle like Yiazmat in FFXII? Nah, defeating the beast is hard enough, so I'm just proud of that. :ryan:

There were a few battles and there are a few missions that are annoyingly hard to 5-star. Luckily, it's only needed to get Technical Points, and if yours is generally maxed like mine is, then it means even less. The mission marks and the final boss are the only battles to be concerned with for getting a 5-star. But all of them you can do as many times as you like, so it's no worry. I know for the most part, I didn't 5-star marks the first go around, but I knew that I would come back with a beastly party and own the bastids. So more than anything, I just kept in mind that I'd be much more powerful and the 5-star would be significantly easier to come by.

I find it weird how you can be under the time, yet still only 3 or 4 star it, never made sense to me tbh :p, however I did read somewhere how it was worked out... but that never helped me, just seemed confusing. Although I was happy 5 starring Attacus on first attempt :)

It doesn't bother me to be honest, I think you start with 10,000 points, if you have over 13,000 by the end you get 5 stars, if you have 10,000 or less you have less.. or something. :andry:
Although it does annoy me a bit getting 0 stars on bosses occasionally, you CAN abuse the system, because if you get 5 stars the chances of item drops are better and if you get 0 stars the chances of a shroud is increased by 8 times. :hmmm:

The earlier parts of the games are great for farming shrouds if you take the time, the start of chapter 2 namely.

So overall, it doesn't bother me, I like knowing where i'm up to and such and how far I have to go before I can demolish the enemy in question. There IS an accessory that extends the time required for a 5 star rank, I think it's the Gold Watch?
If it really bothers you, get that. XD

..but by the time you can get that you'll be uber powered anyway. :ffs:

Whoa, you guys are really calm about this. Maybe I am the only loser xD

I guess it's just the blatant ranking that irks me. It's like it's throwing my efforts back in my face "Oh you won...But you could've done better at this point in the game >_>"

I have just started the game I'm like 10 hours in, and most of the time when i fight i get 5 stars, i think i have only gotten 4 stars 2 times and 1 star one time when i fighting the 1st flying boss, at 1st i didn't know what to do, but then when i learn that i needed to try different abilities and attacks.

i think you learn from this though, i enjoy the system, but even when i get 5 stars i don't seem to get that many items.

I think getting 5 stars results in more items, whilst getting fewer stars results in getting shrouds and the like...evidently the game thinks you need the help. XD

But in any case, thinking on it, this whole ranking system is kinda pointless...I mean, you don't get anything for it unless you're hunting marks, and its quite derogatory, since it doesn't show you how its been calculated. I suppose they thought it would make up for the overall difficulty of the game, which is extremely low. That, or they wanted to make you feel like you'd accomplished something, since you don't get EXP for winning battles in this one...

I've never paid any attention to it, to be honest

Same here. I thought it was stupid anyways 'cause like you Fusion, I'd spend more time then what they said and I was like: "Whaaaat?"

but, the further I got the more I didnt bother with it

The only thing it served was filling up my bar so that I could summon.

Other then that, 'tis was quite useless IMO.

i only really get 0 points when im taking on a monster im too low to handle really, e.g behemoth kings when i first got to pulse, gigantuar, etc, in which case im expecting to get 0 points anyway, i jus wana win!

an ye it explaiend it the first time it came out it depended how close u are to the time not if ur above or below it, right on it was 3 stars i think, like 3 seconds ahead was 4 sstars etc etc.

does bug me when i cant 5 star gorgonosipids/munchkins, sanctum pricks tho :p

For the mark missions I did get irked a few times if I beat something in 20 seconds and I have 3 minuts to kil it off I demand my five stars instead of the 4! Even though the game still gives me a 4....
But eh either way later you get an accesory thet will lengthen the time in battle for you so the whole five star thing becomes rather redundant afterwards.

You can increase the time period by using less accesories, or less powerful weapons can't you?

Either way, it does seem stupid sometimes. Like I noticed last night, those wolf thingies on Pulse (can't remember the name) I'd kill them easy as hell, and VERY quickly, yet get 4 stars. I don't what the hell you're supposed to do to get 5 in battles like that, when 2 full ATB bars (at level 5) for all characters finishes the battle....

But then there are battles against the Rangda things, you can finish it with a minute, yet the timer says something ridiculous like 6 minutes. xD

I lose sleep if I don't get 5 stars
;)
Seriously, I never get 5 stars on boss battles. I also don't care much how much stars I get, as long I defeat them and able to continue.

I'm right there with you on the rage. I have yelled cuss words, I've thrown my controller into my fan and nearly broken it, punched the floor and jammed some fingers in the process, given my tv the finger. I am really competitive and hate doing shitty, and I know ppl call me dumb or crazy for it but I cant help it.
When I'm in the fucking zone, all bets are off, it's my chocolate factory and I'M Willy Wonka, I take NO prisoners.

I hate when i get caught in those 15minute battles, im just glad to end them and dont really care about the stars. As long as i get good Crystalarium(i forgot what its called :p) XP im happy.

but when i do the mission i usually always try to 5star.

for my experience in ff13 the star rating are mainly the speed you finish the battle
you have to customized weapon as soon as possible and i know its long, after you need to boost the crystarium.but another trick is to use item like fortisolAt the start of battle, Brave Fate Haste or aegisol Protect Shell Vigilance for boss battle it really help seriously to have better ranking

Whoa, you guys are really calm about this. Maybe I am the only loser xD

I guess it's just the blatant ranking that irks me. It's like it's throwing my efforts back in my face "Oh you won...But you could've done better at this point in the game >_>"

Believe me, you aren't the only one.

There was one fight, don't remember where, that took me 25 minutes. After it was over, I saw that I was only supposed to take like 7 or something like that. I was like "are you fucking serious? :rage:"

I think the ranking system was introduced to make the game slightly harder, if you get 5 stars then your overall points will be quite high and the higher the points the better chance you have of a "drop" or certainly a good one with some enemies. But to do this with some enemies, especially the latter missions then you need to sacrifice decent equipment in order to 5-star it since, understandably, the better your equipment the faster you're expected to defeat an enemy. I think once you have it sussed it's not particularly that difficult.
