I personally prefered Square Soft. The reason being Sqaure Soft released some amazing titles before it became Square Enix.

And Im not just talking about the older Final Fantasys, SS made other such classics like, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve series, Xenogears, etc. However SS made a mistake IMO with the release of Spirits Within, which lost the company lost finance wise and they joined with Enix in 2002.

Whats your opinion? Do you prefer Square Soft before it merged or do you believe Square Enix is better?
And please dont say "I like SE more because its cool." Explain why you prefer your chosen choice.

Well FFVII was square soft and in my opinion the games have been getting worse and worse since then. SO Square Soft gets my vote.

I prefer them as Squaresoft, so much better titles came out then, but then again Square enix is getting better....

I prefer SquareSoft because it's cooler....just kidding lol

Anyway I like Squaresoft better because it didn't need to rely on graphics to capture the audience they just need one incredible story and interesting gameplay. Since the creation on SquareEnix the final fantasy games may not have been the same as the original (I'm looking at you XI, DoC and X-2) but they have been getting better and will (hopefully by FF13) will bring back the old SS memories that we love.

I voted SE only because I only think of it as the new improved SS. I don't think of it as a differant company all together. Plus Enix released games such as Star Ocean. To be honest I don't think it really matters because the company SS isn't gone at all it's just teamed up with another.

Square Soft since ever since they became Square-Enix...:omg: look at the new games...

FFX: Not that bad....but God I really hated Tidus...also I miss walking through the World Map or manually flying through Spira in the airship like we could in FFVIII with the Ragnarok -_-

FFXI: :monster: enough said

FFXII: Good game but too short. Vaan was not so heroic, making it a more realistic game, points for that. TOO many NPCs, TOO MANY Hunts, and the game was quite repetitive. Not enough about the Judges...we needed more of them as well as more of the Rozaria and Venath...God we needed at least something to fully explain everything XD...

FFXIII: Please God give them common sense and don't allow them to screw it with this one...

KH: :monster: enough said, though I hate Atlantis..(Little Mermaid's world)

KH II: :monster: same, cool battle system, not enough heartless during the 1000 Heartless battle (why 1000 when you can fight 5000 with cool fighting cutscences of Sora fighting tons of enemies?) Great Final Boss but again, they screwed it in Atlantis (God give them commons sense and make them eliminate that good for nothing crap of a world)

KH Chain of Memories: Haven't played it yet but they say it's a cool one and any KH game that allows you to use Riku must be cool.

To be honest I don't think it really matters because the company SS isn't gone at all it's just teamed up with another.

The games certainly have gone. Look at other peoples repiles, Julius Argexis says it all.

i prefer SS because they have released some pretty good games and since 10 it has just gone downhill, the only SE game i like is KH2 and that is mainly for the same reasons as julius

Yeah, Julius pretty much explained everything.

Although, I think Square-Enix is trying its best. Squaresoft is much better though.

OK so some people don't like the recent games. just remember that I'ts the same people behind them and be optimistic about the future:).

I am just saying that FF games lost the "magic" that the previous PSX titles had. if you compare FFX with FFVII, FFVII is a billion times better as well as FFVII is a trillion times better than FFXII.

I think they need to find fresh blood while keeping the old FF Producers Staff :monster:

We need worthy Final Battles...

yeah the games produced by hironobu sakaguchi were the true great ones, final fantasy VII and final fantasy tactics. i think he produced VIII, but im not sure about IX but either way, those were the gems of the final fantasy series, and its clear to all the true fans that the play has declined since the companies merged. it seems like enix wants to be involved more in things like spinoffs and all that garbage, where as squaresoft was more focused on one game at a time, and perfected them in every way they could. squaresoft needs to break their partnership with enix, because im almost to the point where im not even expecting great things from the final fantasy series.

I agree that the games have indeed lost their magic. It seems they are more bothred about making everything look pretty and this may just be me, but IMO they made 12 bit too complicated for me. The older Final Fantasy titles were easier to grasp and understand.

Worthy Final Battles, Better Story Lines, and Better Missions.

But dear God not as many repetitive missions like the hunts of FFXII....:P Almost every hunt was the same old repetitive process... no challenge at all...

Though I admit that the Pharos Lighthouse was not that bad...

Still Square-Enix should return to their old ways and make legends like FFVII and FFVIII. FFVII shook the word, even Aeris' death caused many to fall in depression (yeah many hardcore Japanese RPGamers). How many times a game has such effect on the gaming community?

I think they lost their magic somewhere between the name change and the development of the new games...

I'd have to go with Squaresoft here. I was actually thinking about this awhile back, and how the games were way better, not just Final Fantasy speaking. Enix is good as well, but I've noticed that most of their games aren't as lengthy anymore. Sure, they have better graphics, but what's graphics without a lengthy compelling storyline?

In my opinion, Enix seems to rush their projects a lot. Even FFXII seems a bit short to me. Don't get me wrong, I like XII just fine...but I felt like there was something missing.

I agree with the whole "FF has lost its magic" ever since Soft became Enix. The games are merely just "okay", but the games Soft made were simply fabulous.

yeah since 10 SE has just got worse, hopefully they get the magic back with ff13, unless it is as bad as the number 13 :giggle:

I just need to say that FFX is a Squaresoft game ...

I like Square Enix. Their stuff is a break from the Squaresoft tradition. Sure, Squaresoft broke the 'fantasy' tradition with VII, VIII and X, but SE have changed many things too, such as the biggest feature of the game: The battle system. I think they deserve points for trying new things and not just falling into the older formula for making a Final Fantasy.

Although, XIII does sadden me ... that's waaay too much of a change, plus its only being remade to recreate the fandom that VII generated.

I think they deserve more credit. I think during X, SS were running out of ideas. Enix added stuff to the mix, and new ideas were born. I mean, I wouldn't have thought of an online FF. And it's a huge success.

Even though I like Squaresoft more for their Fantasy themed games such as I and IX (which Squaresoft lack, but, then again, SS have been around longer than SE, so I'll give them a chance), I'll say that SE deserve more credit than they get. I like SS for the steampunky/fantasy games that they have too, example: VI. And SE have made a game like that: XII

Squaresoft > Square Enix

But, I still like Square Enix ... just not as much. And you can't really say it's down to SS for ingenuity and being totally brilliant that makes them better. I mean, if they were so ingenius, they wouldn't have made The Spirits Within which flopped and forced them to merge with Enix. So, yeah ... :P

Square Enix hasn't developed a Final Fantasy game I liked, apart from remakes.

Final Fantasy X-2: :monster:

Final Fantasy XI: MMORPG and sort of doesn't feel like an actual FF game.

Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus: :monster:

Final Fantasy XII: Doesn't feel like a numbered series Final Fantasy game but a more evolved Tactics game.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children: Not a game but Square Enix distributed it and I didn't like how they took the great ending from FFVII with the "what happened to them?" and instead of people coming up with their own conclusion etc, they decide to tell us that everyone lives happily ever after except for crap enemies like Kadaj.

This has spanned over the past few years plus I didn't take a liking to FFX so I would say that Squaresoft was better for me.
