Square Enix’s nine months to the end of December has finished with operating income up to ¥21.4 billion, a rise of 67.7 percent over the same period in 2008.

Sales were up to $135.4 billion, an increase of 30.9 percent year-on-year.
It’s not hard to see why; Dragon Quest IX, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Final Fantasy XIII and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days all released in the period.
Net sales in the company’s games segment totaled ¥73 billion, an increase of 97.0% from the same period of the prior fiscal year. Operating income increased 99 percent to ¥18 billion.

The company’s FY forecast was unaltered on the release, sticking at ¥180 billion sales and ¥25 billion income, year-on-year rises of 32.7 and 103.6 percent respectively. Big numbers: FFXIII’s western release in early March can be thanked for that.

I'm not surprised at all. The latter half of 2009 has been a big occasion for SE. They have released the next instalment of the vastly popular Dragon Quest franchise in Japan. The highly advertised and hyped FFXIII has been released there as well. KH: 358/2 Days as well - which means there have been huge releases from all three of SE's dominant franchises.

Arkham Asylum, being a superhero game, is also something Japan tends to like anyway.

If that wasn't big enough, I don't know what is. :wacky:

I'd like to know how much it costs for the games themselves to be made and then mass produced. Sure SE made money, but how much do they owe now? :hmmm:

Recession on the what now?

I'd love for the chance to examine their company accounts. Its all very impressive (no, seriously - those are some scarily large numbers) but I wonder if there is a flipside to that. Call it...semi-professional curiosity. XD

I think it only costs around $30-50 million for games to be made, sure that sounds a lot but if they end up selling a million copies at $50 a pop then that's made up straight away, then you have the merchandise, Final Fantasy XIII PS3's etc. Then chances are it'll end up selling at least 5/6 million copies as well. So it makes a hell of a lot of money in the long run :wacky:

Yeah, i'm pretty sure that SE will have no problems if any with their spending and paying it and whatnot SE has a hella lot of big titles such as FF, DQ etc and i'm sure there is millions of fans that will do anything to get the game so, it shouldn't be too difficult for them.
