'sigh' Your hopes are about ready to rise once again, but don't blame us if they all come crashing down for the umpteenth time.

It may be the longest-running and most popular rumor in the history of video games: a next-gen remake for Final Fantasy VII. But every time we thought we saw new evidence for it, Square-Enix would step forward and say, quite clearly, that no such project is in the works. It has happened time and time again, and we've long since laid the whole fiasco to rest...or so we thought. Check out this OPM UK magazine scan and look at the bottom right. If you don't feel like clicking the link (maybe you're at work or something and don't want to take the risk, even though there is no risk), we'll paste the words of interest right here, straight from FF producer Yoshinori Kitase:

"[For the Final Fantasy VII remake, I can say,] it's a game I've lived with for over ten years, and my emotional ties to it are very strong. So if it were to happen then obviously there would be a lot of thought and work put into it."

Here we go again. Of course, this comment has already sparked a wave of discussion across the Internet, and some are hoping for an actual announcement at the Tokyo Game Show later this year. We can't even begin to list all the reasons Square-Enix has given in the past for why a remake would be unlikely or even impossible, but who knows? Times change, and situations can change even faster in this industry. We'll reluctantly keep a close eye on this but...well, we don't want our hearts broken any more than the rest of you. 'braces'

Hes not really hinting is he. Hes merely saying that if it WERE done they would put a lot of effort into it. Hes not saying theyre making it.
No doubt there will be tonnes of people crossing theyre fingers, probadly only to be left disssapointed.
Cant say i care either way tbh.

I don't understand why people get hyped crazy about the prospect of a FFVII remake. It's not a matter of yes or no, FFVII will be remade.

EVENTUALLY.

It's going to happen, it's just a matter of when.

Although I'll be peeved if it's before a FFVI remake -__-

Meh, I've heard that before. It wasn't so long ago they were flat out saying no to a remake. A few years ago I might have been excited, now I just don't care that much as I've already seen the characters all prettified. Besides, the fail of the compilation would probably taint it and some of the wtf moments might even be removed. I probably wouldn't have the same depth of feeling for it. I'm tired of FFVII now anyway, I'd rather see a remake of some of the older ones. A FFIV or FFVI remake on a home console would be the shit.

Never going to happen. The most you'll see is FF1-FF6 3d remake on a handheld just like they have done with the DS.

The fanbase for the earlier FF's isn't as big as it is for 7 onwards and it'd be a huge risk for Square-Enix to do that.

They were saying a while ago that even FFVII would be a risk because they wouldn't make *that* much profit after spending millions and millions creating the game.

Agree with Demaris. Square as already screwed up the Final Fantasy VII series..
The new spin-offs that they jammed down our throats will probably mess up ( If- Ever '')
remake. VI kind of deserves the remake much better than VII does. VI has been ignored since VII has taken the spotlight, VI needs to have a chance in the spotlight again..

Why have a crappy remake with Genesis smack in the middle ? Because bet you anything, he will be in the remake. But Square has already loaded the gun, they just need the killing blow and the killing blow will be the remake..

Not looking forward to it.
Looking forward to changing the Favorite Final Fantasy to IX instead of VII though

So basically......nothing he and the others haven't already said millions of times before then.

Considering that the creators said they were "pretty much done with FF7" for the time-being in the April issue of Famitsu PS3, I highly doubt we're going to be seeing a remake anytime in the near future.

Sadly, Kitase didn't tell us anything we didn't already know =/

I would still rather them focuse on the FFXIII compilation before they move onto even thinking of a FFVII remake. By all means, I'd be happy if they did make one eventually, I just don't think now is really the time >.>

Well this isn't something that we haven't heard before. I mean we've been hearing stuff like this since before the ps3 and 360 launch. I'm not gonna lie though. If a remake actually happened, I would be very excited about it even though the odds of them changing some of the game are very high. If they put Genesis in it though I will be uber pissed. I really don't like that character very much.........
Anyway, I agree with Fusionist. It will happen just not at the moment.
