I'll take a good guess that at least 90% of this site's population has heard of Spyro, while 75% has played the series. It was the first game I've ever played for the Playstation when I was about 5 years old. I played the demo, got hooked, and then made my grandma get the actual game for me for my birthday. As the game series progressed, the experience got better and better. Then things changed around the time when the games started getting released for the Game Boy and all sorts of things in the game are altered in different ways. But I noticed the game majorly when I got Eternal Night for the PS2 a long time ago. The storyline may have been enhanced, but the battle system and character personalities are different around that point. The newest game (That I haven't gotten yet) was released a couple of months ago, and I wonder how long the saga will live on. What are your thoughts or experiences?

SPYRO :awesome: I used to love that game. Purple dragon saving the world how does it get any better lol. I was playing that when I was like 12, back in my Tomb Raider days. PS is awesome//

To be brutally honest, I've never played the original Spyro trilogy. I may go and play them sometime soon though, since I've finally bothered to get a NA PSN account.

yh spyro is like epic :)

might buy one for my brick i call a psp :)

Spyro was a large part of my childhood gaming years. I first came across in a PSone demo disc from goodness-knows-where and I remember being hooked in that same demo for a long while. That was until my dad actually bought me the actual game which I still have - Year of the Dragon. It's really easy to see why it's so universally loved: the inviting visuals, the soundtrack, the accessible platforming and collecting aspects of it. Despite the simplicity of the gameplay for me now, it's still one of my favourites. :ryan:

Admittedly I never played the PS2 Spyro games for some reason. I heard that the series took a bit of a nosedive soon after the PSone era and that kind of upset me initially. Still, I don't know if the first three games qualify as being PSone classics, but they were awesome.

I played the original trilogy to death back in the day. My favorite were 1 and 2 from what I can remember. I love the caveman and ice age levels found in the second game. I remember coming very close to completing the first game but I got stuck somewhere, and never learned how to fly. Around the time the "Enter the Dragon" came out for the GameCube I lost interest in the franchise altogether. The original three Spyro games for the Sony Playstation are my personal favorites. It was something I'd play alongside Crash Bandicoot and Croc.

Spyro was kind of cool because the game had a dragon that could fly/glide/whatever. But other than that, I'd consider it to be a niche game. Problem is that any other game could do what it does, and probably better.

In this generation, everything seems to be changing. Just like Spongebob and Crash Bandicoot, Spyro had started to become a totally different story once the games started to hit the PS2 (I didn't know it was on Game Cube also?). My favorite game was Year of The Dragon (the third one), as Fireworks Factory was my favorite level to do on it.

I loved Spyro in the younger days. Year of the dragon and Riptos Rage were so awesome. Some of my all time favorite games. I loved Seargeant Byrd(penguin). Year of the dragon should really get on psn sometime. I love that game >.> But spyro has gone downhill now. the series sucks now :sad3: The classics is what it is all about

I loved Spyro! I used to have a couple games on the PS1, although I forget which exactly those were in the series. I thought the story was fun and it kept me interested for long stretches of time.

I USED TO love Spyro. I hate it when they changed sypro. They thought the changes are good and epic. But I feel that they are stupid. Sparx no longer serves as HP bar. He is just an annoying joker. I also hate the new designs. Its atmosphere is now darker and totally different from last time.

The good old spyro is so fun. I miss those portals, sparx that actually changes colours, fodders, home worlds, themed sub-worlds, NPCs, orbs/eggs, etc.

Same goes for crash bandicoot. Crash of titans and mind over mutants are pure fails. I LOATHE the gameplay of crash of titans. The old crash games are way way (x10000000) better.

I mean seriously... If they want to change the game so much, they should make new games instead of taking advantage of famous old-school games as a way of advertising the game.
