My very early impressions of Final Fantasy XIII.
I have only about a little over an hour in gameplay time, so I am not very far. But in this post I am not really going into the story, maybe just a tiny bit.

Battle System:

The battle system is extremely easy to use so far, and I really haven't had a challenge so far at all in the hour of gameplay that I have had. I've fought probably over 20+ battles, and the only time I came close to dying was one of the boss fights, which still seemed easy. I am usually eating with one hand while just tapping X/A button. So far, very easy, I am sure it will get a little more complicated. I also like the "stagger" feature.

The characters:

Lightning - She's very strong willed, and has a troubled past.

Snow - Is tough and confident, and wants to help people. And wants to find his lover (Sarah)

Hope - He's not confident at all, shy.

Vanille - She is soooo hot! lol, but apart from that she's very upbeat and sincere/nice. She also has an accent. Her personality is very similar to Rikku.

Sazh - He gets stuck with Lightning and tags along, hes the funniest character and I love the fact he has a chocobo in his afro.

So far it seems like there is no leveling system in this game. You also fully heal after every battle, which some will like and some will dislike.
It's been good so far, not great, but its early so I am sure it will pick up.

ZOMG JUST HIT A MAJOR PART IN THE STORY LINE!

Totally shocked, now I know why Vanille doesn't seem that depressed about being a l'Cie

Spoilers below.

Highlight to see.

Vanille was a l'Cie before and she turned to crystal, then she somehow got turned back and ended up on Cocoon with Fang!

ZoMG!

I love Lightning from the moment she started kicking arse in the opening sequence. Just her grabbing the rocket launcher gave her extra credit for me.

You gotta sympathise with Snow for wanting to reunite with Serah. When I watched scenes of them together in the flashbacks, I was so amazed how closely interlinked they really were.

Vanille has got THE British accent. She's so upbeat and confident, although a bit too hyper for my liking. I'm sure she'll grow on me in time.

Hope's adorable and I do hope that Lightning can toughen him up in time. I'd like to see him get stronger throughout the game.

As for Sazh, well, it's Sazh! He hasn't half made me laugh from what I've seen of him so far. His one-liners are freaking hilarious! I can't get enough of him.

The battle system doesn't look too bad and I really like the music to it. I've noticed some of the music sounds similar to XII's, though it just might be me. :hmmm:

And finally, the graphics are AMAZING on the PS3 version. They've really thought about the detail that goes into the cutsenes, it's such a pleasure to watch them all unfold.

So far, so good!

I am just gonna say, the battle with the Warmech was so flawlessly entered into that I barely even noticed the difference between cutscene and battle. I'm midway through Chapter 2 at the moment. Should be interesting. Sazh and Lightning make a great team.

OH MY FUCKING GOD!

THIS GAMES STORY IS DAMN AMAZING!]

Spoilers

For anybody who has completed disc2..
WTF?! SAZH SHOT HIMSELF? WTF?! Did not see that coming.

40 hours in here and i'm still getting surprises at every turn. I think my biggest shock so far is
when that Adamantoise got picked up and EATEN by that monster that was roughly the size of Sin! If not bigger!

Have to say, i'm loving the Pulse monsters so far, they are more intelligent, large and definately deadly. I also love how it follows FF2's monster rule of tougher enemies being further away (wolves in the south, Behemoth Kings and Adamantoises in the north)
