Haha, so I noticed that there wasn't a thread for the recently released Soul Calibur IV (there was one for the series).

Has anyone got this game yet? I'm playing it to death these days and having a jolly good time too.

I admit, The Star Wars thing was absolutely ridiculous, but... suppose, you just, ya know... IGNORE that thing.

The game is pretty much made of win if you do. The Fighting system has been expertly improved. I love how Soul Calibur ACTUALLY has cool looking combos that you can string together now.

There's also been a bit of balancing (for good or worse). I noticed that Yun Sueong (sp?) has been really powered down. Mitsurugi has been powered up, Nightmare/Segfried/Kilik are STILL has cheap as ever, and Taki the same XD

I like how a lot of the moves FLOW into each other this time. The Added Soul Crusher thing is pretty awesome too (Reminds me of the "Death Move" in Guilty Gear).

The graphics are of course... STUNNING for a fighter. I'm really impressed with the game, and I've only played it on Standard Definition too (Don't have HD TV yet :()

But yes, overall, I'm quite impressed by the game. In between all the fanservice, Star wars inclusion and other weird things that Namco did, they also made quite a good game too.

What's your take? :)

Well I found SC4 on the whole to be a brilliant game, however I found that they did make a mess of a few things such as the character creation. They take out loads of clothes options (long jackets for instance) you can only use weapons of the main cast of characters whereas in SC3 you had to unlock them after levelling up the standard weapons. mitsurugi didn't NEED powering up, in SC2 and 3 I was able to annihilate half an enemy's health in just one small combo attack. At any rate Yun Seong should have been powered up imo.

As for Star Wars inclusion, that's just something that Soul Calibur has, in most games they occasionally include guest characters from other games.
SO3 had the valkyries and Lezard from Valkyre Profile 2 and Soul Calibur 2 had Heihachi and Necrid

The new things they added such as armour breaking and soul crush were fun things to include too (stopped people endlessly guarding my attacks and let me get extra damage dealt to open areas)

hat's about all I've thought up atm. :wacky:

I haven't been to into fighting games for the last few years. I miss the old MK, SF, and Tekken games. But I rented this to play with my nephew and I must say, I really got into it. I even forked out the cash to buy the extra downloads. I really like the create a character option. You can create 50 different people, which is quite a bit. I've never been a Star War's fan so I really don't care for the bonus characters. I like it better on the Ps3 then the xbox. Yoda is broken, you can't grab him and for the most part it is hard to hit him because he is so short.

hahaaa got it today. ;) being a fighting game junkie, i'm sooooo happy with it. Graphics are friggin breath-taking. new coustumes are pretty sweet too. i'm also happy with how sexy Seigfried is. :ohshit: :ohshit:
sorry i loved Seigfried ever since Soul Blade. so STAY THE FUCK AWAY HILDE. >.> i need help...

i have also been a fan of Sophitia/Cassandra. i was relieved that they didn't change too much.
Character creation is awsome and has way more depth [voices, body type] but i hate how your stats[hp] heavily depend on what you have equiped. when i first created a character i was happy with how she came out but then had to change her because of really low hp. but i fixed it by giving her the Soul Edge which strengthens hp. ._.

also, what happend to classic modes like teams and time attack? no matter though. i hardly use those modes in previous games.
Story mode is a bit short.
other than those small flaws the game's perfect and i had a blast with it. somthing that'll keep me occupied for a hell of a long time.

it's so addicitive. :ohshit:

This game is amazing. I got it the day after it came out here in the US(July 29th) So I got it on the 30th and I have been playing it like crazy ever since. I got all the characters too^^. Basicly I love this game, it has amazing graphics, great characters, character creation, its sweet. Though the story could have been longer, it still is a great game. Tower Of Lost/Survival Mode is pretty fun too. Overall, its a great game and if you are considering buying it consider no longer, it is worth every penny.

Has anybody else beat the tower? I've only been playing it for two days, but now I'm trying to unlock all the honors. I'm afraid though that once I get all the honors I'll get bored of the game and stop playing.
Until then though, its holding my attention pretty well.

Wow... I actually... Didn't notice that XD

You're right. Time attack, Team Tag matches e.t.c, they've all been pretty much lost. I guess the game was so fun that I didn't notice.

Yeah the Single Player Story mode is darn short. 5 stages and you get an ending. The real fun is to be had in the Tower of Souls thing, Versus and Online Matches though XD

You already beat the tower... after TWO days? O_______O

I'm impressed XD

I'm still trying to beat the tower, while unlocking every treasure chest in the process (hence, I'm a bit slow, some of these are HARD to do).

Hrm... After you get all the honours, I'm sure there's room to move onto stuff like online play. I can't wait to test that out (still need to download that Firmware 2.42 for the PS3... XD)

Okay, so I finally got to play it for the first time today, and to be honest I felt quite underwhelmed.

From what I played, the majority of characters seemed to lose moves and not necessarily gain new ones to make up for it, so I found that a lot of the fights became quite repetetive since some of the more staple moves had been removed, thus leading to other ones being overused. Maxi in particular seems to have lost a couple of good moves from before.

The character editing stuff is nice, but it doesn't excuse the fact that we still only got one genuine new character, since Algol doesn't seem overly likely to reappear in any future games, and the same goes for the Star Wars characters. The characters by guest manga artists are one of the biggest jokes I've seen. With them being just tweaked versions of existing characters, it feels like another slap in the face for anyone who was wanting something new in terms of the roster. I haven't actually played as Hilde as of yet, but she at least looks quite interesting and different from the others.

And the single player modes, perhaps as a result of the characters and movelists seeming lacking, just don't feel overly enticing. I'm sure that running through all the battles of Tower and Dungeon will be decent enough to get the CAS parts and money, but it could also end up being very repetitive. Something along the old bonus/challenge battles against the giant colossus or the lizardman army would've been nice.

I'll still buy it eventually ( was playing it at a friends' ), since SC is generally a pretty popular fighting game for most people to get into so there's always some versus up for grabs, but I can't help but feel that the push for "guest" content has left us with a fairly lacklusture effort.

I actually felt the same way in the start. It does seem like a lot of the moves have been lost. But actually EVERY character has new special moves that you can string into combos. I do admit that Yun Seong has been severely downpowered, but other than him, nearly everyone has a bunch of awesome new moves that more than make up for whatever they've lost.

I love the whole concept of "Use Starting Special Attack Move" ===> Use Another Move to start combo ===> Link with yet another move.

That thing is really really impressive and has really made Soul Calibur IV one of the best beat em ups in my eyes. XD

I finally got the game yesterday, and I'm really impressed. The graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay's fun, fast and furious. I love the different types of characters, and I love the create-a-character mode :3

However...the controls are awful. Compared to Tekken which has a button per limb, this one seems overly complicated.

And although the majority of the characters are great fun to fight with / against. I find that The Apprentice is the most broken character ever. He blocks everything, and he's ridiculously powerful. Darth Vader's not so bad, but The Apprentice is a cheating broken whore -__-

And Yoda's any better? :wacky:

Besides, although not 1 button per limb it does have...

triangle: vertical attack/thrust
square: horizontal attack
circle: physical attack (punch/kick/ram etc)
cross: Block/repel/parry/impact

Not complicated at all when you do training for a few minutes. :neomon:

Only played the demo, but it impressed me a lot. Never tought that it would impress me so much. Graphics are good and fighting is really cool...and offcoruse tons of cool characters. I am already wondering that should i buy the full game :D

AH you should definatly get it!

I got the game today, and has been playing it all day and just wow. The graphics the fights the everything is just so good. And I'm not even really a fan of beat them ups >< Yet this one is real cool.

Can anyone tell me on which console this game is played (if there is only one), so that I can direct it to the correct sub-forum?

I've never played the game but I saw a trailer via MSN advertisments at the bottom of your contact list. It looks relatively interesting; however, I cannot fathom how such a broad range of characters are present in one game.

Soul Calibur IV is currently available in both the XBox 360 and the PS3. Each version has an unique addition, Yoda being for the XBox console and Darth Vader for the PS3. In a manner of speaking, this thread belongs to both Sony and Microsoft consoles and their respective areas.

SC4 is avaliable on the Xbox360 and the Playstation3. Lol I can tell you how there is such a broad range of characters in one game. A pretty large lack in story mode. They make up for that in alot of characters. Still, its an awesome game ^_^.

I did play the game, and I am looking forward to buy a new console (possibly the 360 due to more enhanced online experience, PS3 tend to be lacking on that area) and get SC IV to get a hold of it. After all I have SCII and SC III. I only need the game Soul Edge to add to my collection :math:

Hold your horses there Julius. The PS3's online in this is pretty impressive. Also I recommend a PS3 because of the internet browser, you can go ANYWHERE you would go on a computer, but on your PS3, like you could be on FFF's on your PS3.
