So many people are very affected by Amanda Todd's story.

I find it amusing, to read all these comments by these assholes who claim to know the world and judge someone one who is inexperienced as "moronic", I am hopeful for you to relate to all of us your perfect youth, free of troubles and blunders, it will amuse me. Amanda cannot be exonerated from the consequences of her actions, but neither were her actions serious enough to warrant such retaliations from her peers; specially internet based attacks where some sick fuck pseudo keyboard warrior can sit in front of a monitor with the relative security of anonymousness and inflict damage that is mostly unwarranted and will go unpunished. It is evident that she did not deserve any of the things that happened to her, despite her mistakes, the punishment of constant ostigating and harassment was evidently too much for a young girl who was going through a lot (hormonal changes, school, bullying, blackmail). Perhaps a mature adult can handle a situation like this (though it is evident that a mature/adult would not put himself/herself in a similar situation), but we are talking about a young woman who was perhaps already genetically and socially susceptible to ailments like depression. It is unfair and easy to judge someone, especially young and inexperienced (and dead), from a comfortable position in the sidelines, to put yourself in someone else's shoes is very different. In the end, it is evident that Amanda was the victim of her family's inability to help, her tormentors, and her inexperience.

I feel very sad for the girl. Not all kids are as smart and great and worldly as you apparently are, not all kids have parents that teach them right from wrong as clearly as your parents did.

Catnip does not fit such description, his comments exude an inability to rationalize a situation along with a tint of nihilism in the undertone of his comments that are truthfully disturbing.

PS: To the person that suggested that the people forget about things like this, to forget and not learn and apply what can be learned from such a tragic situation is intrinsically foolish. To a much, MUCH, greater degree, someone could argue that because the holocaust passed we should forget about it. It is not logical.

Honestly I hate to reiterate this, but where are the parents in all this? Their only resolution was to move her from to school to school and location to location, and then put her on meds? Really? I mean I'm not saying I could do a better job here, but the girl exposed herself to a perv, and the perv threatened her then leaked her info. Now I don't know if this all true. It could be that she fibbed a little because she was lonely.

She could be a bad person in fact, but either or.. she slept with a boy she just got to know. Again Parents? I know what's capable on the web still, and it is hard to manage.

I know it's the networking hub now, that we have PervBook and we have Skype (aka internet predator paradise), though still parents can at least monitor her email stream. Twelve year olds on the net is a scary thing. I would say even 15 year olds.

I know there was a lot more internet freedom back when, but the predators these days are in multitudes online, where as back when.. teenagers only had themselves to worry about. We have had a few on here in fact. (sorry to say) - Though those names won't be disclosed.

If I were her parents, and this if I were. I would have tried to involve her in a lot of extra circular activities outside the school. Kids are retarded in high school. I don't think they ever do think for themselves, and if they do they are the shy ones who barely open their mouth in opposition.

Shu I kinda have to disagree, I mean we don't know what the parents tried, we only know this small bit of this story... We have no idea if the parents tried therapy tried to put her in extra circular activities, we just don't know.

I have to say this, I think for the most part, parents do try the best they can, now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying that the did or didn't. I am just saying we just don't know.

For all we know the therapist told them to put her on these pills, I mean if it was my kid trying to kill themselves I would do anything to try and stop it. even if it meant pills or anything really. Moving 5000 times, moving to a different country. I would try whatever. If something happen like this. I would always wonder what else could I of done, and maybe blame myself.

Also if a kid wants to get on a chat site they will, trust me, My younger cousin can get around child locks and things faster than I can think. The younger the generation the easier it seems they can get around the child locks and all those things.

While I haven't read any document out there, but they could of least looked into criminalization. For all we know it was some 30+ year old dude out there trying to get his jollies. What she did was undeniably stupid, but kids are kids. As for the kids being rude to her, so what? That's going to happen and kids will always be mean in high school at times. Now for joking around about her death afterwards, that's a bit effed up.

Though I think sites like encyclopedia dramatica, sublime.com, and 4chan forums, could easily be more regulated.

I think in the coming years, and by years I mean at least two, you'll see more governmental crack down on cyber bullying. Hell if we can't say in the real world, how do they allow folks to say it/display it on the net. Just a matter of time.

I don't believe this. ;) The most up to date child locking from a windows authentication stand point can only be bypassed these days with a good login for one, or a reformat of the system. Unless the Parent is utterly technologically inept, then he/she should know at least how to install. The other obvious way around it are data phones or other computers, which can be anywhere.

You can password protect and restrict anything these days. And you can also monitor the stream of IP's using any freeware that supports it. Microsoft these days is pretty damn secure and integrated. But to bad it's microsoft :hmph:

That's really creepy.... how much do they know ? :brow:

They have his address too :hmmm: And people have started setting up crappy websites about him haha the Cyber Bullying has gone around in a circle

what makes this story a little more unique is that the kids who bullied her. actually went out of their way to find out what school she transferred to and kept the bullying going. in my opinion, these kids need to be charged in court.. that has to be criminal. locally here in my town, a kid who races at my home track had two friends kill themselves over the weekend because of bullying. it sucks that these kids are going this road. i was bullied double time when i was in school, i got beat up regularly in school then came home to an abusive step dad and brother. but i never took the suicide rout. and i learned that in the long run, i came out on top. as i told kids the other day via facebook who were talking about her and sharing their bully stories. i told them that in the long run its the bullies who lose out and are left alone and unsuccessful, its the bullied who grow to be something with their life because they strived to keep dreaming and become something and i site my life as an example. i just said what i wen through.. and now.. i am a top bmx racer who is a role model to kids.. that is a win for me.. all my bullies.. are no where near what my success is..

my biggest worry about this case and a few others making public news and social medias.. that kids who are bullies are gonna kill themselves as a way to make a headline and be noticed... and that i hope never happens, but it looks to be starting.. is not a way to go. killing yourself is not gonna make people notice you in the right light. but to live and laugh at the bullies and continue o dream and be something even though there are odds against you.. that is the ultimate success and the best way to make a statement and get noticed. i tell kids at the track.. if you are getting bullied, made fun of..its because those people are jealous that you strive to stand out and be something they can't comprehend. because your ideas and goals are higher than theirs that they are in a place only you can reach.

that girl.. she made one innocent mistake because she wanted to fit in and be like everyone else and it had the exact opposite results.. it became ammunition against her. now i will place money that these kids who bullied her, have probably done the same thing but decided to pick on her because she was an easy target.. and they are wrong for doing that. one thing i hate is how people have to live up to a status quoe to be accepted.. when will it end.. when will it end..

I love it "bullying is wrong so let us go bully this guy!"

Seriously the people that feel sorry for this girl will probably be the same ones that go after this guy (if he is the real guy that is, I mean in this day and age who knows... these guys claimed they were going shut down many websites and never did)

He's part of the redit page that posts slutty pictures of underaged girls so it's more than likely him.

It could be him don't get me wrong, but the whole "let us stop bullying thing" will turn into an attack on him... which really is just another forum of bullying... which in turn turns this whole thing around....

I also said earlier, we only know a tiny bit of this girls life. We only know what she said on Youtube... So we really don't know her, her story, or her life in general. I am not trying to defend this guy or anything, just throwing it out there....

IDK I'm more scared for my own safety at the moment to be honest with you all. I mean how much do these Anonymous people know ? They can round up information with one person in about what- 3 days ? That is extremely creepy.

It makes me wonder how safe are we really online ?

Plus I'm not even sure if this Koby guy is real. I mean Anonymous posted a video up on YouTube that the who Amanda Todd thing is a fake story to get us all worn up and trolled, and then the next day they come out saying that some Koby guy did it all ?

Plus looking out in the so called information Anonymous has given out about Amanda's so-called- bully they say he's 30 born in 1980. I'm pretty sure that would make him 32 but I'm horrible at math.

I mean...

What the fuck ?

I feel like this Anonymous group is trying to puppet us into doing what they want and it's scary. If this Koby guy is real then it's scary because they can track down any info about any of us in a couple of days and if the Koby guy is fake and the whole Amanda story is fake then it's scary because this Anonymous could be controlling us like puppets on strings.

I mean I understand where you are coming from. Though this dude sort of set himself up. Plus you haven't done anything morally demeaning. From what I've seen so far Anonymous has always gone after folks that are deemed assholes, sycophants, indoctrinatating religious people, etc etc.

You don't really have much to worry about.

The only other time I've seen them be threatening is when they hacked some governmental sites near the time SOPA and PIPA were talked about.

...Why?

I'm just confused as to what makes this one more worthy of attention than any of the other suicide stories out there. Genuinely just wondering.

Can I be honest? I'm going to get killed by saying this, but I'll just start it off by saying I truly mean no harm.

Amanda Todd was an extremely naive girl. I see girls like this all the time, who fall for a man's words, completely forgetting or not wanting to believe that there really is one thing on his mind. Did I say naive? I like the word moronic, it suits.

Like I said, I see girls like this all the time. They're literally everywhere. They make bad decisions, and it's unfair that females need to be extra careful and extra cautious - but tough fucking shit, that's reality. You have to be. Men run this joint (for now hehehe), and we need to cope with that.

Like many homosexuals/gay rights activists are to gay person suicides, I think a lot of people (who happen to be women, in my experiences so far) can empathize with Amanda's story for a very self-justified reason.

I'll tell you what Amanda Todd was- a prima donna. A young girl starts acting that way, and eventually they start to believe their own dramatic exploits. She was up in school being one, and was on the internet being one, and soon enough, she wasn't one- because she killed herself. The end.

That is the consequence of parents treating their young daughters like the world is their glass palace and then putting them all in the same building- things such as this spawn from virtually nothing. The naivety is almost proverbial, and the inability of society to acknowledge the truth of these things is near sickening.

What I gleaned from this is just a confirmation of what I already know: people are dicks. They don't care, 99.99% of the world's populace are cardboard cut-outs to them, background props. Even more so on the internet. I'm not exempt from this either, it's how we all are. The bullying and negative comments she received are from people being themselves, however ugly that is. She wasn't exactly faultless either, and had to have been mentally unstable already before posting on youtube. This being an age where we have the internet for anonymity when venting suppressed emotions in addition to a world wide recession, the world is not a happy place to live in.
