I have played through quite a few FF games, havent beat this one though. I played up to around the end of the first disc years ago, then something made me stop for some reason. How is the game as a whole? How does the story hold up later on? I imagine I'll be getting it again once it arrives on PSN.

It's one of my favourite FFs on the Playstation and I have to say the story really picks up on Disc 2 onwards.
Basically, you visit the new continents through other ways rather then through the Mist technology and the story opens up more as to why the Queen is so evil.
I won't say more then that. It is definately a great game to play and I think you may enjoy it as much as I have.

Don't stop playing - carry on! I agree with Starlight - FFIX is certainly one of the best instalments you can find on a Playstation format - and one of the best in the franchise as a whole.
If you already have the disked copy of the game, there's no reason to buy it again from PSN. The story does really pick up from where you've left off. I don't want to say much because it could lead to accidental spoilers, but it gets darker than you think.

It's a great game. Not my favorite FF ever, but certainly one of my top five. And then end of disk 1 is just where I remember it starting to get better. The characters are much deeper than they seem, and the graphics are great for the time. I also like the medieval setting.

I think it has a very important place in the pages of Final Fantasy folklore. It has charm in spades, and it has an awful lot of references to older FF games, which is just really really nice. The story starts at a glacial pace but opens up nicely, and its characters are very easy to empathise with.
It has its flaws, and I didn't like it as much as FFVII, or FFVIII for example, but FFIX is a great, great game, and deserves a lot of your time.

Final Fantasy IX is my favourite game from the series... Followed closely by IV and VII. Final Fantasy IX IMO is what Final Fantasy is ALL about... It has amazing characters, the storyline is one of the best in the series as a whole. I found the gameplay thoroughly enjoyable. It has a brilliant soundtrack and medieval feel and sound to the game.
I would certainly advise to continue with the game as you will not be disappointed!!

Its a shame the Atb is dog assed on this game otherwise it would have been.....As far as stories go this is pretty good my favorite part being where get the airship and the events leading upto it The whole scene when finally get the Hilda Garde 3 and Garnett cuts off her

I think the ending of this game is very good! Better than VIII's.... one of the best endings, I'd say. It's worth finishing.
