So anyone else beat Penance and the Dark Aeons?

i just pounded them constantly with auron, tidus and yuna only when i had little health with all 3 did i resort to aeons!

i love this game!

uhh question, IS there a certain version of the game that you need to face the dark aeons and penance? I saw a youtube vid of him and it looked epic, and everyone seemed to know what was going on.

Its in the European version, you Americans didn't get it unfortunately :monster:

Well not just European, it's PAL region which includes Australia as well.

I have beaten all of the Dark Aeons but the only time i battle Penace i was killed and i got angry and never tried again...perhaps i should give another go.

I beat him but the amount of time and effort required to even stand a chance against him is far too great to attempt on a second file
I suppose thats why I keep a file where I can fight Penance whenever =]

Unfortunately the Americans were the one's who got ripped off this time. But I'm not complaining, because I know Europe usually is theone bent over when it comes to video game deals.

I would have loved to face off against these Aeons and then Penance, but I have the American version. All I can do is listen to teh stories told from my buddies around the world.

They have been the cause of much anger, I still haven't re-tackled Dark Yojimbo....he pissed me off WAY too much <_<

Sometimes I wish I didn't have this version

I only ever managed to defeat Dark Valefor and Dark Ixion, the latter of which I'd rather not count, given I ended up summoning Yojimbo for Zantestsuken.

I had no idea about the Dark Aeons until it was too late, when I marched into Besaid to complete the Destruction Sphere puzzle, for the sake of obtaining Anima. My arse was handed to me, gift-wrapped in a sparkly box. I specifically set out to defeat him (only to discover that I'd completed Besaid, it was Kilika I was missing).

He was easy enough to beat when I used the Magus Sisters but, even still, it's a bit of a cheap shot. The patience to defeat the others eluded me and I only confronted Ixion by accident when I tried to complete the Lightning Bolt sidequest. As I said, Yojimbo won that for me so I'm not really counting it as a win.

As for Penance or Nemesis ... I haven't even tried.

Overall answer: no to all. :neomon:

I myself have bet everyone except dark yojimbo (and of course penace) but only use combat not yojimbos overdrive but my mate has killed all the dark aeons and only has to beat penace.

ok still being twatted royally by bloody dark bahamut lmao it's getting annoying now not even sure if my games playing properly lol lets recap:

i have ribbon for everyone and break HP limit
my main battle party are now pushing 60,000 HP,
they all have break damage, and every bell and whistle that exists ffs lmao
i start the fight casting hastega on the party BUT when bahamut uses Impulse my guys are still crippled with slow and various " break effects"
i have the strategy guide and it leads me to believe that ribbon will protect almost always against ALL status effects
" slow, poison, sleep, break effects" or am i missing something lol

after impulse bahamut takes a breather and then proceeds to twat one player with " bitch slap" when combined with " various break effects" means my guys dead :| so bring him back again and cast auto life before he kicks me tush again

i had that for about half a hour and he still decked me :|
i've beaten everything apart from the magus sisters, bahamut and penance lol even anima :/ anyone got any ruddy tips lmao am getting frustrated slowly ;)

Bahamut is the hardest Dark Aeon in my opinion due to Impulses effect. Ribbon does not protect against any break affect unfortunately. You should have armour with Auto-Protect, Ribbon, Break HP Limit and Auto-Phoenix. This way you don't have to cast buff spells. Start the battle with all three characters having full overdrive bars. Then use attack reel doing 1.2 mil damage. Then having your other 2 characters give Wakka the overdrive bars again. After 3 attack reel, you will have dealt 3.6 mil damage. After this, just double cast ultima with 2 characters, and he will die. Remember to keep Auto-Life up and running after each Impulse. If he has a full overdrive use an aeon to take the hit.

Use your aeons as sheilds dude :monster:

I had to beat the swine with Yuna & Wakka because Auron didn't have a ribbon and got petrified then shattered

I had a bitch of a time with Dark Bahamut. Just be patient and keep trying, if I can do it, bloody hell, anyone can, I had half your hp and only 2 ribbons -__- Tbh I spent most of my time healing and casting autolife than actually attacking. Yuna barely hit him she was too busy keeping the party alive :wacky:

I found Anima easier aswel.

Start the battle with all three characters having full overdrive bars. Then use attack reel doing 1.2 mil damage.

Oh yes, Wakkas overdrive is an absolute GODSEND, also casting aim helps -__-

Break HP Limit is overrated, you don't need it.

As for Penance, I beat it using the following set of armour for all characters -
Auto-Haste
Auto-Protect
Defence+20%
Auto-Potion

Now you may think - that's crazy! Why no BHPL or Auto-Phoenix????

Let me explain. With Defence+20% and Auto-Protect, any attack that Penance does is reduced to below 9999 damage, in fact if you use Cheer 5 times (or Mix Hyper NulAll to give you Cheer + Focus x5 so you're not wasting turns), you push the damage of his attacks within the 6000-8000 range, which won't kill any character, but will be enough to trigger Auto-Potion (sell off any Potions or Hi-Potions, and just have X-Potions in your inventory)

Never let the arms get a turn. Ever. This is the cardinal rule in beating Penance easily. Also, try and alternate the kills of each arm so they are a turn or two apart, just in case they somehow both respawn on Penance's go. Don't be afraid to use Blitz Ace, Attack Reels, even Tornado can help with its two-hits to ensure the arms don't get a chance to attack. Only then can you look to attacking Penance itself.

Always use Quick Hits, normal Attack is too slow.

You'll gain Overdrives very quickly with Penance's attacks, equipping Break Damage Limit + Triple Overdrive weapons can speed that up even further, and you can even throw in Eccentrick or Hot Spurs Mixes to increase the Overdrive gain.

Speaking of Overdrives, set all characters modes to Comrade.

Second form of Penance gets a bit different. As soon as he enters his second form, he automatically gains Haste, but this can be dispelled so just throw a Purifying Salt or Dispel normally. Speaking of Dispel, each time he hits with his attack now, the character suffers Armour Break, so be sure to Dispel the character before Penance has a turn just in case he attacks them twice and KOs them. And since you are losing MP by his attack too, Use a Three Stars item to reduce the MP cost of all your attacks to 0.

Between all this, you won't be losing any turns by stopping to heal, since Auto-Potion covers that. Penance's attacks can't kill you with Defence+20%, Auto-Protect and Cheer x 5, so you are safe. Quick Hits is your standard attack, and always concentrate on his arms before attacking the body, never NEVER let them get a turn.

As for not relying on Auto-Phoenix, remember that when you die, you have a long delay before you can move again, even in Auto-Haste. And you cannot afford any delay in beating Penance, he's too fast, the idea with this set up is to get the maximum number of turns to keep his arms in check. If one character dies even once, you may find yourself in a war of attrition which you more than likely won't win.

If you follow all that, you can beat Penance pretty easily within 40-50 minutes, I'd say. Shouldn't take you any longer than that. Just make every turn count, don't die, don't let the arms attack, dispel your characters after the second form hits, and you should be fine.

Yeh ive beaten all Dark Aeons and Penance.
Penance literally took me hours to beat, and many, many tries. I came close once or twice which broke my spirit before i finally did it.

Yup. Lol, Dark Velefor was easy as pie i just had first strike and summoned Magus Sisters and pwned it.

Ifrit kind of snuck up on me becuase i was just wondering around and i taked to 'al-bhed' and luckly i had practially everyones overdrive gauge full and i owned it.

Ixion was so annoying because i didn't know you had to fight it a second time so it took me a few trys till' i just pwned him with Zanamoto.

Shiva was a pain is the ass because she was so fast!

The rest of the aeons i can't really remember but as for penece lets just say...took along time!

Wait hold on, Penance? where do you fight that? as for the Dark Aeons I beat them all with Zanmato >_<

Penance is available after beating all the Dark Aeons. Though if you didn't fight the 1 optional fight in the Dark Yojimbo stage [within the cavern], you'll not get the opportunity to fight him.

He'll appear as an airship 'location' once all the Dark Aeons are defeated. There's a nice little cutscene for it too.
