When I saw Odin come down against Seifer at the Lunatic Pandora, I laughed. "HAHA poor Seifer". But then - red Japanese text flashed across the screen, and Odin was sliced in half.

What the hell was that? No... seriously? What the bloody hell was that? He sliced a GF in two. That too with such ease. Give me an explanation, people. What do you think? Any theories?

hope this posts enough to last.

I don't know about playing god. More like super badass. Since I know that scene now and days I try to get odin at a later time cause excalipoor sucks.

The only possible explanation I can think of is that while Seifer is Ultimecia's knight, she probably gives him a power boost or something, maybe even lends some of her own power. I mean, she was able to create Griever from scratch in the last battle, right? Whose to say she can't kill a GF?

And Griever does KO the GFs if you try to summon them D=

That was pretty bad ass, total pwnage on his part....I saw him coming and I was like, its over for Seifer, and boom odin dead

He didnt even move his friggin hand -__- it was like odin merely walked into seifers gunblade and wass cut in half easily like a hot knife through butter. Still it was briliant to watch, very unexpected. |Gilgamesh was shite though id rather have kept odin, he saved my ass a few times.

I personally found it rather lame. I mean, I'm always able to defeat Seifer without much trouble and yet he manages to slice through the legendary Odin. What the fook cheesey waffles is up with that?

I never wait to get Odin, which is the problem, and then have to put up with lame ass Gilgamesh (who you would think would be better) and his lame ass Excalipor for the rest of the game.

But having said that, I find Seifer pretty lame for most of the story. So...

This is why I always wait to get Odin. I don't rely on him to win me any boss battles, so I have no problem with not having him until disc... whatever it is. I don't remember. As for Seifer... I don't think a logical explanation can be found. Pretty sure it was meant purely for shock value, and it was a good way to replace Odin with Gilgamesh.

yeah the way odin got sliced in 2 perfect halves was a bit f a shock and almost let me loose the match...
But I think Seifer pulled it off with the help of Ultimecia like Fusionist says. She infuses him with a serious powerboost. He is then arnold schwarzenegger and when odin smashes into the sword he dies. Cause nobody can move Arnie xD

Remain on topic and put a little more in your posts in the future please ^^

I thought it was a bit stupid that Seifer killed Odin, and then was a really shitty boss. I found him pathetically easy, I really expected a challenge after he killed Odin...

Gilgamesh was annoying too, I found him to be useless, and it all just seemed rather....random.

No kidding :) I'm playing FF:VIII again and this time I'm gonna wait. No way I'm letting Seifer slice my Odin, and no chance in hell I'm gonna have Odin replaced by stupid Gilgamesh. I hate his "Excalipoor" (who doesn't?:))

I never minded getting Gilgamesh, Excalipur is rubbish, but then in the game, your characters are pretty hard so you don't really need his help, and when you do get it, it's a welcome treat! As long as you've got all your malboro tentacles (which Odin always seemed helpful in obatining) you're ok.

However getting back to the main topic, surely that is Seifer's reward for being such a loyal 'knight'. Having the power to kill a GF (even a somewhat unconventional GF). But also agreed that the fight afterwards is pretty weak after you've just seen that.

I wouldn't necessarily call it playing God either, but i definitely voted for the "cool" option. You see a boss from the game overcome your summon attack and just totally annihilate it. You don't see it coming like the topic starter posted, and you sit there and wonder "what the hell did I waste all my time getting him for?" afterward.

I mean of course you get Gilgamesh following the Odin tragedy, but still, it's something rare you see when a Summon you have, get's permanently dismantled from your party.

This still bothers me to this day, I mean you can totally kick his ass yet he killed a GF!!!! And a GF that you had to jump through hoops to get. Thankfully I usually never got Gilgamesh in a battle. So I dont even know about this Excalipoor, thank god. ;))

kind of thought that it was saying that Seifer wasn't showing his true power among Squall and the others, that he was holding back so he could grab Rinoa and take her to Adel, and that he was problery so much stronger than what he problery showed. But he held back thinking that Squall is worthless and rather simple to defeat, and not a challage..

Maybe ? just -making a question.

Seifer was very over-condfient in himself, and his fighting talent..

Before you ask that question, why don't you ask yourself: How did I beat the Legendary GF Griever, Bahamut, Odin, etc. You know very well the answer.

As for Seifer, I believe he simply countered Odin's Zantetsuken with hiw own version of Zantetsuken, Reverse Zantetsuken. He is no such thing as a 'God'.

I think the fact that he killed Odin was quite a twist in the Final Fantasies, i mean to be honest you never usually see another FF where someone has killed a GF/Summon really.

But the fact that it was Odin wasn't cool really...Sucky, not cool.

Honestly mate, you're better off not knowing what the Excalipoor is. But in case you wanna know, the Excalipoor is one of the four moves that Gilgamesh pull off everytime he summons. And guess how much damage it does.... 1 HP. Against a boss, against a bite bug, it doesn't matter. 1 HP...

I rly don't think GF can die! I mean why haven't any other GF we defeated in the game died! This is my theory:

Odin decided 2 join Squall and co. under the condition that he was not junctioned ( enslavement, a horrible punishment 4 a GF)! When he saw that the battle with Ultimecia was get more and more serious he thought that Squall would try 2 junction him and if Ultimecia was 2 succeseded in time compression, he would remain junctioned 4 ETERNITY! Odin was just too damn proud 2 let that happen! He didn't even attack Seifer, but just rammed himself into his blade and his particles scattered and were 2 restore him somewhere else, hopfully until the battle with Ultimecia was over...
GF are beings made 100% out of magic! I don't think they can be killed...
