Anyone fan of this classic and epic song? It's an English ballad from the 1250s and I just can't stop listening to different versions of the song. I've taken the time to actually learn how to play it on the piano when my piano teacher played it for us a month ago. I know I've heard of this song from a long time ago, but I can't remember where or when...but hearing the rich song once again really inspires me.

A little history of the song:

The history of the song

In the middle ages, people didn't usually take credit for songs or other works of art they made, so the writer of Scarborough Fair is unknown. The song was sung by bards (or shapers, as they were known in medieval England) who went from town to town, and as they heard the song and took it with them to another town, the lyrics and arrangements changed. This is why today there are many versions of Scarborough Fair, and there are dozens of ways in which the words have been written down.

Here's a jazz piano version of the song.

Another arranged version

Wow I've never heard of this song before. =0

It is really beautiful!

It feels really mystical and serene.

I especially liked the Sarah Brightman version in which she's actually singing to it as well!

Thanks for sharing this Suki!

If I wasn't a fan before I am now. =)

Ah there's the words I'm looking for! Mystical and Serene. Yes, that's exactly my thoughts when I heard it...especially when someone sings it. I searched on youtube for like an hour last night just listening to different people sing this wonderful song. I wish music these days were as rich and wholesome as this song.

OMG, Mitsuki, so that's what you were talking about in the ShoutBox a while back. I really love the Jazz Piano piece. So Soothing! I must admit it's not at all my kind of music, but I gotta be honest, I really enjoyed that. So pretty. ^^

Not that Sarah Brightman doesn't have a great voice, but I like the S&G one. They are also very talented singers, and the three part harmony with the guitar is just too good.

Er.... dial-up is preventing me from listening to these songs....

I love this song. I wish to get the album someday, but it's very hard to find. I never get tired of hearing it. There's always something new!

Thanks for sharing this. Never knew that the song was about the plague before I looked it up.
