I didn't see a thread like this....so...

Saving Private Ryan is a story about a band of American soldiers who attempt to rescue a fellow soldier who has lost his brothers on the battlefields of WWII. The aim is to get him out of the war as soon as possible, though the group takes a lot of heartache in order to achieve it.

What are you opinions on this movie?
If ever you've seen it? Most likely in History class or on your own.

I loved it, its one of the few army films I can sit down and enjoy. Heck, my brother loves it and hes veery hard to please!

The camera angles are truly amazing and well shot. And the acting from all involved was brilliant, moved me to tears.

It has without doubt the best start to any film I have seen. For war films it is definatley one of the best. In my opinion Full Metal Jacket beats it by a fraction.

Saving Private Ryan is the best war-film to date IMO. Not only because of the acting, action and all that other jazz, but it's a good basic portrayal for the entire Second World War, in a small sense. Thousands of people (the majority of the company) lost their lives, because they were told to, just to stop one man (find Pvt. Ryan). It's a very powerful movie in that sense.

Normally I don't like Matt Damon, but I actually think he did well here. I saw the film almost two years ago and so far, I have to agree with Pooley on this. Best war-film to date and it was very emotional in a non-dramatic way.

Or wait, maybe it's the other way around...? Ah well you get the idea.

This imo is one of the greatest films ever. Definately the best war film after dirty dozen. I really need to buy this film cuz i havent seen it in ages.

Yeah, an awesome movie for its realism and excellently depicts how terrifying the Omaha landings were. I loved all the characters, although it was a shame they killed Vin Diesel's character off so early!

Well, it is a Spielberg, isn't it? :P

I agree, one of the best, if not the absolute best WWII movie to date. I wish they would make more movies of the sort, because it gets me interested. :D
I have to agree with Pooley on the thematic part, all of those people just banding together to save one guy, that is pretty emotional, if you reflect upon it. Also, quite accurate, they got every piece of equipment right, (based on my research mostly >.>) and the battle scenes were just suspenseful and it was quite hard to tear your eyes away from the screen, even as all the gore comes out during it.

I hate War movies. But this movie was awesome. It was wonderfully made. The blood was a bit much but thats war. The acting was astonishng. Very few movies are made like that.

It's a great movie, one of the best World War flicks out there and I can happily sit down and watch it any time of the day.
