Anyone ever try a hours-long road trip driving to somewhere?

The longest I've ever gone seating in a car is 6 hours on the way from Bakersfield, California to Las Vegas, which is an almost 300 mile drive. Great scenery, horrible feeling.

I know my cousin and his family did a road trip to Florida from California. I heard it took them 3 days to complete the 2500 mile journey. XD

Yes, I have - when I was 12 years old. From California all the way to West Virginia / Virginia, which lasted for 3 days. It was the most horrible experience since we didn't stop by any hotels, hence no shower. And 8 people in the van really sucked. My dad and uncle (who are both truck drivers) took turns driving, and it would have only took us 2 days, but my stepmom kept wanting to stop at places and tour around, so the trip lasted a day longer. I guess the best part about that trip was that we didn't have to wear seat belts, although the thought of that now scares the shit out of me. My dad had placed a crib mattress on the very back row, so that we were about to lay down and sleep (sorta like what you'd see in trucks) during the trip. Good thing we didn't get caught...

Anyway, it was a very boring ride. My brother and I were so bored that we even started to do that 'honk at me' arm motion at truck drivers we saw on the freeway. Used to get a kick out of that back in the days. ^_^

Several times. The summer after 8th grade, my mom, brother and I went from Tacoma, WA to the Grand Canyon and back. That was about 2 weeks. We had a travel trailer, and would drive about 200-300 miles per day, stopping in places like Klamath Falls, OR, Reno, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, etc.

When I first moved to NC, I drove from Colorado Springs to Tacoma to see family and such, then went from Tacoma all the way to Elizabeth City. Virtually coast to coast. That took about 48 hours worth of driving over three days.

I also drove from Boise to Colorado Springs to San Antonio to Blacksburg, VA to Elizabeth City over the course of about 3 weeks for various family- and football-related functions.

Also did a trip from Hampton Roads to San Antonio and Dallas and back to visit family.

:hmmm: I do a lot of driving.

The longest time I've ever spent in a car was when we drove to France for our holiday a few years ago. Now, the drive from our house to Dover wasn't so bad, since it was in the middle of the night, so everyone apart from my dad (the driver) just went to sleep.

However, after crossing the ferry and landing in France, we had another 12 hour drive ahead of us, and that's when things got bad. I think I was 13 and my brother was 9, so naturally, we were totally bored. And we were totally cramped, because my mum's 70-something-year-old Auntie was also sat in the back with us, along with a few bags, so we couldn't move. Add in the heat, and getting lost, and it gets really awful, really quickly. Seeing as my dad ended up getting himself stuck in a loop, the scenery became boring the 3rd time around, too.

So yeah, I haven't got the fondest memories of road trips. There are others I've been on with the family when I was younger, but the France one was the worst one. I think it would be fun to go on a road trip if I was driving and I knew where I was going though.

Lots of times. Everytime I've been abroad with my family, we've always taken the car. So I've been driven to Sweden, Norway, Germany, Italy, Austria, and France. The first time I ever went somewhere on a plane I was 20 and went all the way to Australia :wacky:

I've only been on one road trip and I think the only way I will go on another one is only if I have a good amount of space to myself. Normally, I sleep during trips but this time I couldn't because it was so physically uncomfortable there. Not only were there 5 people with me but there was a lot of luggage as well and not a lot of leg room so it made it very hard to fall asleep or play a game. Luckily for me though it could have been worse. I could have actually had to drive as well.

I don't fly, so we take road trips about once a year from Portland, OR to southern California, depending on where we're staying (it's usually in the Orange CountyFullerton area). That's a 17-ish hour drive for those of you who don't know and it is brutal going down without stopping for the night. I've done that twice and just regretted it. It's much better to take it easy, stop in San Francisco or Sacramento depending on how much time we have (that's about a 10 hour drive from Portland) and then finish the rest on the second day, another seven hours.

I've also driven from Oregon to Missouri, which was interesting. The scenery is completely different. You go through mountains and deserts and plains of nothing and then all of a sudden you're driving passed endless fields of corn. It's incredible and boring and it can be fun all at the same time. It depends on who you're with. I've only taken a road trip once down to California with an ex of mine and his brother. The rest of the road trips I've been on were with family, which usually ends up with us wanting to kill one another about halfway through.

My mother and I just took a road trip down to California in June and we were at each other's throats. It was brutal, but when we got to her house, I went straight home with my cats and I was as happy as a clam. :3
