Report: Nintendo World 3DS players suffered side-effects

Reports from last week’s Nintendo World event, the largest hands-on 3DS event since E3 2010, include troubling accounts of prevalent dizziness and eye fatigue.

Japanese magazine Friday claims that a “majority” of players experienced unpleasant symptoms after or during use of the 3DS’s stereoscopic 3D feature.
Friday spoke to a number of players who said they’d switched to 2D visuals within a few minutes of beginning play after suffering minor dizziness.
Half of those interviewed reported fatigued eyes, although some commented that holding the 3DS still can help mitigate strain.
Friday’s feature seems to be a lone voice among generally positive reception from Japanese press. The magazine is well-known for paparazzi exposure of celebrity scandal.

hmm how annoying, I was really looking forward to this but I get motion sickness with games easily, like when watching CoD. I don't want to get sick or dizzy playing handhelds, the whole point is to be able to play them anywhere, anytime and for as long as you want.

this sucks :( huge price, small battery life and now bonus dizziness

I think it's something to keep in mind, especially if you plan on playing long games within reasonable periods of time.

However what I wonder is, will it be the same for long time gamers, who are generally accustomed to fast action, flashing lights, etc?

Good grief, this isn't go well in America. :ffs: I smell plenty of lawsuits ahead. But really could they not anticipate this? Watching a 3D movie is straining for the eyes alone, contain that to a tiny screen and more focus and you'll get a brain anuerism.

That is a good question, I wonder that myself.
Here is the part of the quote:

But are these normal customers/visiters or veteran game players,,it should have a difference imo.

But after MINUTES of play they changed it back to 2d...you know I get the feeling 3d will fail,,,,,,,,,

For 3d tv's and handhelds.. wonder what people think of the 3d movies in cinemas?
Never been to one.

I think we also have to remember that not having eye-sores from playing a handheld is only a luxury. For example, for the longest time Nintendo's handhelds didn't have a lighted screen. I imagine it will kind of be like taking a step back to that, except this time you pull away from the screen instead of toward it.

Oh gee, who could have seen this coming? Oh right, me. I knew this would happen and have spoke about such a thing occurring in my 3DS rants. So, this comes as no surprise to me.

I expect a disclaimer will be enough to prevent the lawsuits.
"Warning: may cause dizziness if played for extended periods of time."
...that isn't going to look good on the 3DS's box, is it? It's not going to help quiet those irritating extremists who insist that video gaming is what is wrong with society today, either :hmmm:

cant say im surpirsed, 3D films give me a headache, I can only imagine what 3D gaming would do. Always thought this was a stupid idea, and a faddy one at that

Gaming has given people headaches ever since they started, just most people have gotten so used to it by now they don't get the headaches like before, innit? Plus 3D has given people headaches before as well, it's two evils combined I guess. Games always come with warnings with stuff like may cause headaches, nausea etc, we just don't pay attention to them warnings anymore.

I bet I'd be migrain and vomit bound within the hour, Il be giving this a wider berth than baby shite

Just the price tag alone is enough to give me a headache, and now this? I was at first considering getting one solely because of Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright (Phoenix FTW!), but now I doubt even the powerful allure of that game will be enough to make me shell out any amount of money for this POS.
