So, does anyone else think they killed off Reks alittle too early? He was a much bigger role than Vaan was. =/.

Your thoughts?

nah. reks death is what drives vaan along with his longing for adventure. if reks had lived longer then vaan would have looked after him and not stolen the magicite.

but you could have reks replace vaan, reks gets better and seeks revenge for almost being killed, and by preventing the war he keeps his brother in dalmasca safe

I agree. The storyline would have been much different if his death was staged later on.

Although if he were to be killed off later on, then where would he be killed?

He would be killed sometime later by Vayne. xD.

I just wanted too see more of Reks instead of Vaan. I mean, Vaan was cool and all but I actually prefer Reks over Vaan.

At least they could've made it seemed like he died and he came back towards the end. haha.

We don't really see much of Reks. We only see him in the middle of a war so how can you tell what his real personality is like?

I don't think he means personality-wise, Gabranth. Because I'm with Hayate on this one - I actually prefer Reks than Vaan. Personality has nothing to do with it. It's merely based on one's preferences.

Granted, we got to play Reks in the beginning. I don't know what he's like as his life ended too early, but I definitely wanted to see more of him and was quite disappointed when the focus switched on to Vaan.

I do have to disagree about Reks having a bigger role than Vaan though. =/

if they had killed reks off later i think they should have done it either of the fights with gabranth or Cid but preferably which ever's first encounter comes first

I think maybe the reason I am geared toward Reks more is because of how little we know of him and I want to find out more. That's probably it.

Since they are making these spin-offs from Ivalice maybe there will be game where is this war main focus and you play whole games as Reks.

I liked the fact they tried to fool Reks is the main character but then he surprisingly gets killed. Well I knew he isn´t main character, I had seen pictures about Vaan and Ashe.

Why so? I think they're both pretty rubbish.
Reks only exists as an auxilliary to highlight the Basch/Gabranth thing, the war, and the death of the King, in my opinion.
Vaan doesn't really effect the story at all, as far as I'm concerned. With a few minor trivial edits, you could have had a story sans Vaan completely.

I tihnk killing Reks at the start was a good way for the game to begin. It came as a shock and I dont know, kinda made Vaans anger more believable.

Pretty much stated in the above posts. No Vaan doesn't really affect the story, but the role that was given to Reks is minor (barely) compared to Vaan's. Reks's death is what stopped him from having a bigger role than Vaan - otherwise, I'm more inclined to say that yes, Reks may then have a slightly bigger role than Vaan. Sure Vaan seemed like a tag-along to the party, but it's in his eyes that we see the story unravel before us. I believe that's the reason why I feel that he has a slightly bigger role than his brother.

Reks would die probably in the middle of the game, and will end up probably like Aeris, except that Reks is on a beach or something and was looking until the Archadian Empire bombed the place or something.
But I ain't up for another death in the game to bear.

Yeah, I'm beginning to see it as Vaan having a bigger role, but that is solely down to Reks, because, as someone has mentioned, Reks would return to Rabanastre and look after Vaan, and as there would be no major personal rage against Archadia, neither would feel quite as inclined to rob the Goddess's Magicite, etc.

I really agree with you there.. though I have to say, that in my opinion Vaan is the most likeable main 'hero' of a Final Fantasy game in a very long time, if not ever... But Reks was just made of awesome. Wish that prologue scene with him was longer.. ;.;

squall and tidus are much better than immature vaan^_^

but i dont think that you can have vaan and reks and penelo, it would wreak the group. and since the story is seen through vaan's eyes he is the main character, not ashe of reks & etc. so it wouldnt work because vaan would be telling reks what to do.
any way reks has to die to frame basch for the murder of the king,

Well, Vaan's anger didn't last that long, did it?

I think he forgave Basch pretty quickly without actual proof. -_-;; For all he knows Basch could've made up that story. lol.

vaan isnt the most intelligent of characters though is he?:wacky:

but dont vaan balthier and fran see basch talking to his brother gabranth?
so that would somewhat prove basch's story
