I would like to know whether you guys prefer to see the dates in front, or at the back.

i.e.

THIS:
[00/00] FFVersusXIII cancelled

OR THIS:
FFVersusXIII cancelled [00/00]

This is about the convenience of reading news titles. Does putting it in front confuse you? Does it prevent you from reading part of the title from the home page? If we were to place it at the back, does it make news threads lose their unique tag?

In addition, do you think it is better for the year to be included? [05/11/2012], OR simply [05/11]?

Any other suggestions and comments?

Thank you for your time and thoughts.

I personally think that the date should go after the title, so that you can see what the news is about easier when you look at the "newest threads" in the top box thingy on the front page. You can always just roll over the title to see the date of it from there. I mean, the title is more important than the date, right? :)

Well, for one having the date the right way around would be nice.

But honestly, I think having the date first, followed by the topic title, is a better way of doing it...it's easier to read in Latest Replies when a new news thread pops up, and it just seems like a better way of doing it; it draws your eye instantly.

Reason I add the year is because sometimes ppl will bump old threads from last year and it confused me sometimes. Also this is a trait I took over from Mercurial/Ryan he was the first one to add the year.

At the section "New Replies" I never got confused about the dates/titles cause only at news section we put dates so I always could pick them right away.

But I can also understand why ppl would want it at the back.

Either way Im not bothered with the outcome.

I also frequently check out the tab "New Posts" and not only the panel with just 5.

Thanks for the response so far! Keep them coming!
@Fleur
I would like to know your opinion on this, as the ex SE news mod :)

Having the dates before the title of the thread certainly does alert me to the news more quickly, but we could always begin each news thread with [N] and then put the date at the end. :hmmm: This would allow people to view the title of each news topic AND would benefit those who currently prefer having the date at the beginning. :)

Good idea, but it will still hide the title :( (I tested)

Everyone, what about adding a N! or NN in front? These won't hide the title.

Like, N! FFXIII-3 announced [00/00/13]

Any other symbols?

N*, N+, N= :hmmm: I'm trying to think of things that are short but will stand out. :lew:

I will probably just be unhelpful here and just suggest that you go with what you think will be best. :wacky:

It was never an issue when Ryan switched the format to [XX/XX/XX] Square-Enix Announces Bunny Steamroller Melancholic Chronicles, and I've mainly rolled with it since. The latest replies box pretty much tells you that it's a news thread under the "Forum" section, so I don't really think an [N] or N* is that necessary. I would personally leave it as it is, because date tags are a lot more conspicuous. With how squished the space is and how titles are cut after a word or so since the upgrade to 3.8 ?) a year ago, there's no real perfect solution.
