(This is meant to be a serious discussion but I can understand if it's moved to FFFun)

How do you rate yourself when it comes to overallFinal Fantasy knowledge? There are a lot of us here that are very good at understanding the concepts of one game we really like but, IMO, there are only a few of us that really know all the games well. That's especially true when it comes to older titles. Since that's the case, I'm going to put the poll with these categories... but feel free to reply however you'd like.

Master of None - You just play Final Fantasy because it's fun. You never set out to know every character, every item, and every plot arc. You know enough to state your opinion but it's only a hobby. Who cares to know more than that!?

Master of One - You have played one or more Final Fantasy games but there is only one that you truly know well. Sure you grasp the basic concepts of a few games in the series but when it comes to Final Fantasy [#], no one knows more than you.

Classics Guru - You have played all the classics and you love them to death. The new ones are alright and you kind of understand their plots but if it's not 8-bit, you're not interested. Those 3D bastards and their rendered features can go suck a chocobo, you like your 500 job classes and you're not about to give them up.

New Era Guru - You joined the Final Fantasy clique in a post-FFVII world and you really have no interest in going back to 2D. Cloud, Squall, Zidane, and Tidus are your best buddies and you can talk intelligently on any of their adventures. Just don't ask who Terra is because you'll just think of Gaia's counterpart in FFIX.

Sage's Apprentice - You've got the details of almost every Final Fantasy game burned into your memory. There is one or two you haven't played and beaten but no more than three. You understand their plots in detail and could describe the plot of almost every game to almost any one. However, there's just one or two titles in the series where you can't help but refer to others for their expertise. By no means a bad self-ranking but definitely not as prestigious as the following rank.

Final Fantasy Sage - You've stopped everyone from Garland to Vayne and you know more about every single game than could ever possibly be healthy. You know exactly who Black Mage #288 is and the name of his chocobo buddy without even looking. Ex-Death's rather odd origins are burned into your brain and you have often wondered if the Pyramid of Moore was originally in a desert or a forest. Ellone is no mystery to you and you could pwn Sephiroth with your knowledge of his momma and the lifestream. You fear no Final Fantasy forum. You post in all without regret.

master of one, ff7 (Y) played it through so many times i cant remember haha easily my fave ff aswell :D

I would be forced to rate myself as a new Era Guru, although i Despize FFVIII, and Squall and his gang can rot in a pit of Shoopuff crap. Zidane, Cloud and Tidus rock. Mainly came into the FF series after the Creation that was VII.

Haven't really had chance to complete the earlier games as i have never realy got into them .

I'm in between New Era Guru and Sage's Apprentice. I've completed 100% files all the Playstation generation Final Fantasys, save for 12. For the old generation ones, I'm making my way through III and V, and have perfect files for IV and VI.

I know the stories of them quite well, the older generations tend to lack the gaping plotholes of the newer ones. I forget some major plotpoints of VI and VIII because I haven't played either in a long time.

I haven't finished 1 and 2, but FF1's plot is pretty linear compared to the rest. I should probably just restart my FF2 file, as I haven't touched it in about a year, maybe more.

Soo... pretty much, I'm more of New Era Guru but I'm on the steady path of becoming Sage's Apprentice :D

Master of None.

Why? Because I have seven Final Fantasy games and have only completed three.

Plus I've only beaten one of the more difficult boss fights, and that's Hades. He wasn't even that difficult, either, all I had to do was spam Shock and Flare.

I want to try to beat one of the weapons in X (the weakest one) and Ultimate Weapon in VII, but I doubt that will ever happen. And even if it does in VII, it will probably only be because I have Knights of the Round or something.

I dunno what poll option to choose because I started playing at VII and played them all after and (XII aside) made it my mission to complete them all 100% and at least try to know what is going on plot wise, even though Im abit fuzzy on some... I'd say I was 'master of a few' xD

But Ive also played the earlier titles bar 2 and never completed IV which I'm trying to rectify :wacky:

However, I dont even wanna entertain trying to 100% them because I had a nightmare with some of them, I barely even remember anything about them, other than Ive played them >_>

I put myself under the New Era Guru category for no other reasons than exactly as you have written - I can't bare the 2D games with digital music and no voice acting (though VII and VIII disguised this latter con) and I've never felt even slightly motivated to finish anything before VII.

I would say I am a Sage's Apprentice when it comes to FF games. I have almost every single FF title in my collection besides XI, Crisis Core, and some of the sequel. I completed IV (SNES, GBA, DS), VI (SNES, GBA), VII, VIII, X, X-2, Tactics so many times. I had grind myself for many months into completing these games at 100%. I have IX and XII but I haven't gotten very far due to lack of motivation I have right now. I even helped a friend on MSN who was stuck with FFXII by giving him directions in a area he need to get pass only because I had the guide book.

I'd say i'm a sage's apprentice, i've played 3-12 and completed almost all of them. I'm often quite handy at explaining things in a game, mainly due to how everyone in my area knows nothing about it. XD

I put myself under Sage's Apprentice as well. The only two FF games I haven't played are Final Fantasy III & IV. I'm weak on FFVIII's confusing ending... but other than that, you can pretty much ask me about any game in the series and I can explain everything to you. Writing this thread has actually given me some motivation to play the games I haven't and replay FF8 so I can understand it thoroughly...

I actually had a lot of fun writing the definition for Final Fantasy Sage just because it referenced so many interesting odd pieces of Final Fantasy lore. I can imagine someone reading through that and wondering what the fuck I meant by Ex-Death's origins or Ellone or Black Mage #288. lol

Hmm id go with sage apprentice, iv got most of the games, completed most of them and know way too much about some of them than is healthy. But like you say there are a few titles im not quite clued up on. So yeah sage apprentice

I would say I'm a Sage's Apprentice. I have 100% files on all Final Fantasies from VI through XII. I comprehend the plots quite well although I don't remember some stuff from the ones I haven't played in a while. I plan on completing the remaining titles (I-V).

Id probably rate myself an "almost" new era guru. I started playing with the playstation 1 titles and have compleated them all since apart from XII. Also compleated crises core and X-II. I wouldnt say i know everything about them though.

I will at some point go back and play the classics. Planning on getting I and II for the psp

I guess New era guru is the closest. Ive played all games in the main series after 7 with the exception of 11 and im in the middle of playing 6. I have no problems with the older games and im just getting round to playing them, although I dont really hold any high regard of sprites the plots might be good. I understand all the plots in the games I've played and generally can remember most of the game^^

There are 2 Final Fantasies I know like the back of my hand. Final Fantasy VIII and X and I've completed them 100% like all others I've played except 9 and 12, I'm in the process of finishing up 12, not much more to do.

hmm well im not a master of none

im a master of more than one so i cnt pick tht one

i play and own both the classics and the new era games so i dnt fall under one of these two

im not a final fantasy sage as although i know alot about each i always learn new stuff so i guess that makes me a......

Sage's Apprentice

maybe one day i will master all the ones that are out but that would n ot mean i am a ff sage as they would of probs released more games by then, i doubt anybody could ever truly be a ff sage due to that

Sage's Apprentice

Old Fart here, but I started playing NES when I was around 5-6 when it first came out and when I saw my bro playing the first Final Fantasy, I tried it out. Love at first site, to say the least. At the time and age it reminded me of a REALLLLLLY in depth zelda. I enjoyed when I received the Ship, the small boat, the airship.. and lastly when my characters grew old.

I was hesitant to buy a PSX initially because at the time it was a pretty expensive system. When I did I instantly bought VII a month after it came out and worked my way through the rest of the FF's.

I miss materia, I miss original summons from FFIII on SNES to FFVII-III-X, and I miss Lit (for you old timers).

Give me my Knights of the Round or Bahamut Zero or Anima.

Gotta go with a Classics Guru, i think i can tell anyone about anything of the old NES to SNES games, but ive played almost all of them. Im hesitent to say im Sages apprentice because my memory is fuzzy on most of the games, but i can pretty much tell you anything about the oldies, where that weapons at, where that esper/summon/magicite is, what that monster transforms to,methods of killing:P and all that other jazz

I would say Im a master of one, but have had my rounds with many others.

But I have played Final Fantasy VI so many times. Ive only beat it a few times, I just play and play, then I decide to start over, I could run through the game in my sleep.

FFIX is another ive played a lot as well though.

But ive played I IV V VI VII IX and have not played any of the new ones because I don't have the systems they are on.
