Square Enix PR Sonia Im has confirmed that anyone looking to go hands-on with the English version of Final Fantasy XIII will get to do so soon, but only if they live in San Francisco.

Im tweeted earlier:
“Official tomorrow but heads up! Bay Area folks will get a chance to play #FFXIII That is if you can find us! #FinalFantasyXIII @playFFXIII”
If you live in the Bay, make yourself scarce and play it.

Why just San Fransico?? Thats not really fair, how ridic can you get?! Why cant people from the US and Europe play the English version??

I can imagine that's where SE's HQ is in the US, otherwise I can't imagine why it's just San Francisco. I'd be tempted to fool the PSN by saying I lived in the US but I have a feeling it's on a disk due to the fact it says "If you can find us". Which all in all I think was the disk she posted a picture of a while back.

Why it's just SF though is annoying as hell :mokken:

Instead of this they should just put the damn thing on the PSN store, so everyone can try it. I hate it when people are singled out when it comes to trying things out. :/

Agreed. I am getting utterly fed up of SE effing around with us for the umpteenth time. What is the damn point of doing this? If an English demo exists, just release it for us. Europe especially, we get the cold shoulder from a lot of things! :gasp:

If they can secure a demo for the citizens of hilly San Francisco, why can't they give one to the rest of us? It's not asking much. I'd much prefer a chance to give a game a fair amount of playing and scrutiny before deciding to part my cash for it later.

Well hopefully some kind soul in San Fransisco will...share the experience with us :awesome:

But you know, while I agree it's annoying how Square didn't just release this on PSN, with the game coming out in less than 2 months...I think I can just wait to play the actual game :hmmm:

That, and I don't even have a PS3 yet xD

I don't understand the way businesses, especially Square Enix, do their business. Square always seems to the stupidest and complete opposite of what they should do, it's like they've got an idiot at the helm or something. Why is it so hard to release an English demo on PSN and Live? They're just being assholes by withholding it. It just really pisses me off how they think everyone should already "know" that they want this game because it's got the Final Fantasy name. Quit being buttheads and release a demo for us, gosh.

It is a bit unfair that they single people out like this.

It's not fair that you should miss out just because you don't live in a particular country/state etc.

Why can't they be fair and release things at one time to everyone!

Not that I'm really fussed as I don't ever play demos, but it's still unfair for those who really want to have a go. =(

I think a better question would be why we have to wait until March 30th for the game if they already have an English version ready now. Does it really take that long to complete whatever epic marketing campaign they are planning?

If I owned a company that had just released a game in Japan to very mixed reviews from the western media, I don't think I'd be in any rush to get a demo on Xbox Live or PSN either. There's no reason to add fuel to the fire and potentially further the idea that Final Fantasy XIII is really just a mediocre game. It's much safer to just let people wait till the release date and let the brand name "Final Fantasy" shift the units :P

What? That just doesn't even make sense. Why San Francisco?

It just seems so random, as if someone put a world map on the floor and threw a pen in the air and where the tip landed, they chose that place to release the demo.

There have been mixed reviews, so I do want to have a shot at the game. I'll probably buy it regardless though. :hmmm:

Release date is actually March 9th :monster:

Does anyone know how early a demo is released in relation to a game's release date? :ness:

A demo's normally released anywhere between a month or two before the release of the full game, that's certainly how it worked with the likes of Uncharted and R&C :hmmm:
I blame this Sonia person, she did it a month back as well. Build up your hopes just to shit on you :mokken:

Really? That's not too long then. In that case, wtf? They could package a FFXIII demo with SO4 International then Dx

Only in san franciso?

They like to be awkward for the sake of it sometimes don't they?

The Demo is 5.9 gigs, i doubt you want to wait that long downloading it,i played in a japanese copy of Advent Children, its actually good, but, didnt know what to do,as it was in japanese

Maybe you shouldn't single out the XBox by saying put it only on the PSN store :P

Anyway, I think that there won't be a western release of the demo in either PSN store or XBl Marketplace, the demo wasn't release online in Japan, it was released through disc, I think it will be the same in the US/Europe/AUS

I have a feeling they would shorten the length of them demo it cut the filesize down, I think it was put on a disk for the Japanese demo because a) It would sell more copies of Advent Children and b) 5.9GB is one hell of a demo size. And I think it's on the disk in San Francisco to limit it to just them.

We'll probably get both a shorter demo and a smaller filesize should it go to PSN. If SE are talking about digital distribution, they can start with the demos >.>
