I've just recently bought a PSP and naturally the re-re-re-re-re-remake (think I'm missing a few actually...) of the original Final Fantasy. Now I know ultimately it's just a graphical update of the GBA version but I can't help but think that it is better and suites more than the graphics of the DS for III. Plus by including a newer translation aswell as all the additions to the PS and GBA versions, it seems we now have a 'definitive' version of Final Fantasy. I don't like the graphics of III particularly, not so much the style but the overall quality. I think the high-res 2D graphics of the PSP versions suite more for the early games than that of the DS '3D' overhaul. Sure most people would argue that completely redone 3D is more appealing, and in some ways it is, but tbh the DS graphics aren't much more than what you'll find on a old PS console, and gameplay-wise loses some of its magic. These are basic games, 2D spirit presentation compliments the games better than 3D, especially for handhelds.

So this is what I'm thinking; Why bother releasing FFIV (and likely V and VI) on DS in the same vain as III when it would be better on the PSP? or if the people want 3D remakes so so bad then why not go the extra mile and do it for a major console like PS3 or Wii?

I know for one that I'd rather play a 'definitive' FFIV on the PSP with hi-res graphic updates (and its difficulty set back to harder) like the first 2 over a tackier looking DS version. It would be extremly epic.

Ofcourse this is all just personal opinion, I still like FFIII DS and welcome the upcoming IV, I just see it a little odd.

It'll probably make more money on the DS due to a higher userbase than pretty much everything else, also it's cheaper (and less risky) to make complete remakes of old-school games on the DS rather than on the home consoles. With the graphics I would prefer myself to have games with top-class 2D sprites over weak 3D models but that's just the direction they've taken with it.

I don't have one of each but i have plaed my brothers DS and my own PSP and i think that the PSP is much better, but that is mainly because i have always been a sony guy instead of a Nintendo guy, it's just personal preference really

Bleh, if you like sprites so much, that's what the old versions are for...remakes should take it that extra mile. The DS remakes have new translations as well and FFIV DS will certainly be the most "definitive" of the NA releases. And, yeah, like said, it's absurd to think of a remake for 1~6 on a current home console. Matrix Software has more than proved that they can make SOLID remakes for the DS. I hope they continue not just w/the FFs, but other games like CHRONO TRIGGER!!!

Also, the DQIV-VI DS remakes ALSO look great!!

I thought the PSP versions of FF1 and 2 looked pretty choppy for 2d themselves. >.>

I think DS's graphics are good for a hnadheld. Not PSP good, but still good. It wasn't focused on movies anyway.

I own both and to be honest! I like the PSP more then the DS! For some odd reason I find the DS rather annoyed because of the touch screen IMO but they do have great games for it and it's cool to play mulitplayer!

PSP on the other hand. I love it, hands down! The graphics and the fact you could go online is awesome even though it takes forever for it to load but I guess it's me haha!

I'd say Scrutator has it pretty much spot on with the money issues. Albeit, I would much rather have a sprite version like remakes of FF/FFII purely because it's just easy on the eyes, whereas even though the 3D remakes are good games they don't look as good...nevertheless, both the DS and PSP remakes are as equally enjoyable.

But I prefer the PSP sprite version over the 3D overhauls.

I personally would rather play the original game on the NES's or SNES's, OR the remakes on the PSX with origins, Chronicles, and Anthology compilations.

I think it's just because I want them to stick to one console/handheld (preferably console) and make all teh games for that instead of the same game, remade, over 5 different video game systems.

I'm more of a console fan though, so that's just my opinion. When it comes to choosing between the PSP and the DS though, I'd rather use the DS. I've tried a PSP and it just didn't feel to good to me. The DS wasn't too comfortable either, but one was less annoying than the other, and that was the DS.

I prefer the DS over the PSP. The graphics don't really bother me much, I couldn't give a monkies wether they 3D them or not but my DS definately gets more use than my PSP does

Altho, I'd much rather just stick to consoles myself but well, thats never gunna happen is it so.....yeah I prefer the DS

PSP all the way. You can unlock the PSP capabilities once you install custom firmware. You can play PS1, DS, GBA, SNES, Atari and more console games. Unfortunately....installing custom firmware is illegal. As for the games, I'm rather bored of all these Mario, and Sonic games. The DS is suited for younger kids in my opinion.

1) That's not what the topic is about. You should really at least read the first post of a thread you're about to post in...although I admit that the topic title is a little misleading...

2) I'm 89% sure that you can do that w/a DS too.

3) I'm 100% sure that you can do that a lot easier with the PC you're going to have to use to get said warez...I guess that way you can have your emus on handhelds, but w/e...

4) Only people completely unfamiliar w/the DS's lineup (or w/anti-Ninny complexes) think that the DS's more suited for children.

Anyways...

Yeah, I didn't know until later...why DID they make them for seperate games instead of one game (maybe w/two discs if necessary?)...Did they add a lot to the story & characters or something on top of the graphical boost for the PSP versions?

Soz, was tired n'all that. :wacky:

My main point is if SE are going to continue milking the S/NES era FF's at least they could do was to do it on the PSP as DS owners already have access to the recently released Advance versions. Most people won't own both handhelds so it makes sense to have IV, V and VI on the PSP just like I and II so that both markets have them. 3D remakes should be left to the consoles for better quality as I think 3D on the handhelds doesn't work as well as if it were 2D (simplicity factors).

I havn't accuarly played on a PSP unfortunatly but I have my own DS and it's good in most games. I think that PSP look like good graphics because I have looked at games such as CC.

I understand where you're coming from, but the Advance versions were more or less just lightly modified ports whereas the DS versions of III & IV are very much full-fledged remakes with added dimensions, new gameplay & story elements, FMVs, etc. While I wouldn't mind it if they found some way to port the DS version onto the PSP, it seems like they'd just have to completely rework it, thus making two completely seperate remakes for both systems...and I'd rather have different remakes for one system than have them focus on multi-platforming the same remake.

And I could be wrong, but I believe there are more DS owners than PSP owners...Though it may be a closer running in Japan...? Or probably just higher numbers for both...

DS sells like hot cakes in Japan. Sales have lessened recently, but that's understandable. Like, half of Japan has a DS at least. And DQIX will probably give it a boost. DQ is another japanese bestseller.

PSP has more things (music, photos, internet and such) but not much on games.

DS is good, the graphics are okay but some of their games are addicting.

overall i say DS.

How about to avoid getting ass-raped by a mod you guys actually READ THE FIRST FRIGGIN POST?!? I know by making a post pointing this out, I'm kind of contributing to the problem...but dammit...can't someone change the topic title to "FF Remakes On PSP or DS" to avoid some of these n00b posts??

yeah I'm more of a PSP fan

Mod edit: Please add a bit more effort to your post. (Ie. Why are you more of a PSP fan?)
