Right, I think most of you are going to know what i'm about to say.. :andry:

What is the deal with the English VA of Vanille? She just has to orgasm at every little thing, it's so weird and a little disturbing if i'm honest. XD
I mean, the voice acting of XIII wasn't that bad, and Vanille's quite a cheerful character etc, but the constant sounds she makes are just cringeworthy if i'm honest. :ffs:

If I remember rightly, they said they wanted some form of 'sex appeal' for this one, is this one of the things they meant? I hope not.
Don't get me wrong, I think XIII is a great game, but the scenes with Vanille in are a bit "err...she sounds like she's enjoying it a bit too much"

People say FFX's voice acting was bad, that may be so but it didn't make you that uncomfortable now did it? :wacky:

Just want to know what everybody else's thoughts are on this, because I have no idea why they'd decide to do it. :hmmm:

I KNOW I'm not the only one who thinks this. :mokken:

Vanille's voice-acting is a big reason why I'm not a fan of the character at all. All the time, she squeals excitedly over the smallest things. She sees flowers just before Hecatoncheir pops up. *Huge excited squeal/gasp/whatever it is* FLOWERS!!! I know that's probably the kind of character she is - cheerful, upbeat, mostly positive - but it does get really childish as well. It was rather over the top.

Also, even though her voice actress (Georgia Van Cuylenburg) is Aussie, I've seen reports from other players about her accent slipping here and there. Therefore it sounds like Vanille isn't sure whether she's Australian or American. I'm not fully sure on that though.

I totally agree with you on that. It just sounds... awful D=

I do know that Vanille as a character is cheerful happy/ whatever but seriously tone it down a bit.

I just hated her voice-- 'tis was rather annoying and she'd just get too excited. like-- calm down.

wayyy overdone and it bugged the hell outta me >_<

It really didn't bother me in the slightest.

Hope on the other hand.....everything annoys me about him. Would've loved to have seen Snow just pick him up by his scrawny little neck and repeatedly punch him in the face til the little cunt stopped moaning or acting like a total bitch.

HaHA Andeh Im going to have to agree with you here. In battle specifically Eden she moans non stop. But in Gran pulse sge is so different. And says oh balls and sunshine or some shit like that when you shift. Yeah Vanille has alot of ummm weirdness? Yeah ill calll it that. And try putting her as a sentinel. Also you gotta aDmit she had a sad story. Also in Orphans Cradle she says over here man like an American when you shift. well heard it briefly xD Shes just a ball of laughs I guess, But Fucking orgasminG ALL THE TIME XD Also DL FLUX made a good point. Snow is even more fucking annoying :wacky: But even Hope also.

Whens she narrates it sounds fine..

It's some of her other dialogue and her grunting/moaning noises that get irritating.

To be honest, she has the most tragic backstory out of all the characters in the game besides Fang. So, for having to deal with so much despair and tragedy she's pretty damn upbeat and positive.... Maybe they were trying to prove that no matter what happens you have to stay positive? Then again, in the case of these characters, they're l'cie so if they let despair and negativity overcome them they turn into Cie'th so I guess she has to be positive..

They really did overdo it though. A lot of things in this game are "over the top" like they just tried too hard.

Vanille was weird. At some moments when she talked I was like, okay she says this normally, this sounds okay. But those annoying cheery things like: CIAO annoyed me.
My mom walked in sometimes and looked weird when she heard Vanille speak XD
Also at the beginning of the game whenever she lies down to rest she moans too much. Seriously they shouldn't have given her such an annoying voice. I was excited when her character was announced but her voice ruined everything for me.

Vanille's hideous accent doesn't make her sound foreign so much as slur all her words together, and any emotions she attempts to show beyond "giggly schoolgirl" ends up feeling obnoxious and contrived. She has horrible voice acting even by Final Fantasy standards. Hope is pretty much the same way. I wouldn't put them at Star Ocean 4-level bad voice acting, but they're pretty darn close.

Vanille has the worst voice ever although she is cheerful and hope is really cool and cute he was a soft sisy at first he changed to a power house :moogle:

It made me cringe from time to time, as it was very OTT, but I can see what they were going for. Vanille plays dumb and acts like a child, so her constant screams of ecstasy are just a part of how she tries to view the world. While she does hide secrets, and knows more than she lets on at the beginning, she acts a lot like a child (even though she is physically 19 years old). The noises are her just getting excited by every little thing that she sees, touches and hears. She simply loves most things that are pretty and interesting.

That said, since she is 19 those screams do sound like something a little less innocent, and I guess they thought that it would be hawt and turn everyone on.

I personally liked her voice actress, which I think makes me an oddity. Vanille was one of the characters who appealed to me the most. People say that she is just a dumb girl placed there for eye candy, and to be irritating, but I think that there is a lot more to her than that. She's much more relevant to the plot than any other FF character of that type (Rikku, Selphie etc), and she has to deal with a heck of a lot. Her hyperactivity and pretty look on life are simply her shield to stop her turning into another Hope.

I think that the game definitely needed Vanille. It gave the player something interesting to watch. Vanille, Sazh and the baby chocobo made that game for me. I know that most people will probably think that I'm weird for that, as I do also understand that Vanille was meant to be annoying.

Also, even though her voice actress (Georgia Van Cuylenburg) is Aussie, I've seen reports from other players about her accent slipping here and there. Therefore it sounds like Vanille isn't sure whether she's Australian or American. I'm not fully sure on that though.

I’ve not noticed that. I guess it might annoy some people, but I don’t see why it should matter. She’s not meant to be an Australian after all, she’s from Gran Pulse. It’s just because you can’t really make up an accent for a game that they have to use one from our world, but I don’t think it should matter too much if it is slightly off in a fantasy world.

Her voice didn't bother me really. I was curious about why she sounded so odd (even in normal conversation- her voice was just..strange.) But it never annoyed me. The orgasm sounds I found hilarious and (oddly) helped me remember that she is way older than she looks (she looks about 12, forgetting the boobs).

Heres a funny story though. :) I'm a young gay woman (yes, this is relevant xD) My mum sorta knows, but refuses to accept it. I know she kinda knows, and she knows that I know she knows. So anyway- she wanted to know what the big deal was this game- and asked could she play it for an hour. I sat with her to help her on parts.

So there she was, fighting away at a boss- when she realized the sound was way too low. So my brother turned it up- waaaaay too loud, by mistake. -all you could hear all over our house was Vanille's moaning sounds. My brother scrambled to turn it down but the remote had broke!!

So my mum, being the way she is, tried to act like there was nothing going on. I was sitting across from her, red-faced, trying not to laugh or anything. And my mum was sitting, again red-faced, but looking really angry and uncomfortable.

My other older brother didn't know my mum was in the room (as her chair was kinda behind the door) when he popped his head in and said "They had her make those noises for you Sarah. They knew you'd like the thought of making her squeal like that!"

O_O

Cue the most uncomfortable 30 seconds I've ever had. My older brother walked away laughing- while me and my younger brother sat still, eyes wide. I was keeking meself. My mum made a slight coughing sound and said "Eh..erm.. you'll have to show me what paradim-things to use for this boss."

xD It hasn't been mentioned since. ^^

I actually loved Vanille's voice during narrations and normal scenes. The battle noises however...were just disturbing. Definitely sounded orgasmic. It was the sheer volume of the noises themselves, they never stopped! Luckily, I hated Snow and Hope so damn much that Vanille's "quirks" never really bothered me. I really like her as a character, so I try to overlook the sex noises. But yeah, I think they were a little over-zealous with her battle noises.

I seriously wanted to kick Hope in the balls every time he stared an "inspirational" speech. Seriously.

There was something I disliked with all characters- but nothing compares to Snows pretentious, posing, arrogant Hero routines. -_-

I like Vanille. She's possible my favorite 'That Character' from the series. (Rikku, Selphie etc.) Although I do genuinely like Rikku.

LOL:D Yes, my neighbour must've thought I was watching a porno whenever I had Vanille in my party. Her orgasmic screams were definitely the most convincing.....there was no faking those!:D

More than annoying, most time I found them hilarious, primarily because of the reasons discussed above. (i.e. what other people would think when hearing those, xD)

Other than that, I actually did like Vanille's character. As pointed our above, she actually had quite a big role in the game and was less irritating than others (especially Hope).
