Well, My ps2 can play any of my games other than two. The disks are clean, almost 100% scratchless. My ps2 will play any of my crach bandicoots, any final fantasy, kingdome hearts, even rockband...but for some reason when I put in Guitar Hero world tour, OR Metallica for that matter, it sais the disk cannot be read. I tried everything, I even have this disk repair stuff that I KNOW works from experience that I used on it, I tried a head cleaner...help anyone?

Is it the disc read error problem?

If so (and it sounds like it) then it isn't the fault of your discs, it is your PS2. It happens after a while on a lot of PS2's. They have trouble reading the discs. Sometimes they break from this quite quickly, but sometimes they can live for a few years in this state if you just keep trying the discs / tapping it / wacking it every now and then (I don't advise this though, but it kept mine working for two or three years).

I think it is a problem with the lazer that reads the disc, but I'm not too sure. I'm not 100% on this technical fault, but it is a common problem among PS2's, sadly. If you have a warranty then I suggest get it taken back and get a new one, or perhaps pay for a repair. It might be cheaper to get a new one altogether these days though.

It depends on how bad this problem is for you. Like if it's all the time, or if it is just like that for a while but on other days it will work.

Really the only other thing I can think of is not pushing the disc down hard enough, and having it not click into place. I did that once and it wouldn't read some of my discs.

However, other than that... I can't help you much.

If you have the original PS2, you might try placing it flat somewhere instead of having it standing up. That could possibly be a problem with reading discs.

well that is very well possible, but it only does it with my guitar hero games. But at the same time it works with rockband and every other game i own every time...and i got the console used, so no warranty.

I have the slim, so its not that...

And i did think of it being not in all the way, and checked it, it was in right...

You can void the warranty and attempt to open and clean the lens of the system yourself. If it plays all the other games well, though, then I advise that you dont. Are you sure there isnt a scratch in the middle circle on the CD's? That can stop it from working even though the rest of the CD is fine.

just checked it sean, I keep my games nice and sparkley, and especially guitar hero, the most epic game a guitarist like me could hope for. As expected, these games are almost as mint as when I got them, so I really dont know the problem...

Did these CD's even work when you got them? Sounds like they may be the problem. Even though they look good doesn't mean that they may not be faulty. Did they work at first?

I beat both games 3 times, so its not how i got them. I really have been raging :rage:

Sometimes the disc read error problem starts off with a few games, then eventually refuses to load any game at all for a period of time. I don't understand it fully myself. If this is what the problem is, then this might be the begining of it.

Let's just assume though that something might be wrong with the dics, but from the experience of having two PS2's that went down the disc read error route... It might be that that is the problem. If it starts to make violent and loud noises then you know it definately is messing up.

This is exactly what happened to me. At first it wouldn't read FFX-2, then it spread to about half of my games, and then it didn't read anything. Hopefully it's not that, but just know it can start with a few games that seem otherwise perfect - that was a new copy of FFX-2 that just refused to work about half the time.

Surely enough you guys were right, My ps2 has officialy shit the bed. well i can still play dvd's so I guess its good for that, but I do have my own dvd player, so its completely useless at this point. Well then I guess thanks for the heads up /saves for a new one
