probably already been done...but.... as i have just been discussing this on a previous thread and how much HP this beast actual has, has anyone here been stupid enough to take on this hardcase.........and win!

Ummm nope dont have the Intversion. But my friend and Italy does and he killed penance. Yep He is so good his sphere grid is like maxed out. So yeah He is kinda impossible. But if my friend did it anyone can.

I think to even come close you need to be worse than a WOW player and hermit your life maxing out the sphere grid, unlocking all the secret weapons. And the fight is like over an hour long. I'd rather go outside n get a tan

well i ahve to say that i have all the celestial weapons and have nearly maxed out the expert sphere grid but there is no way in hell that i would be able to take on penance, half of the dark aeons are still a struggle, i've clocked nearly 100 hours on this game as well.

Beating Penance is about ensuring your speed and offensive, and not necessarily focusing on other stats at all. Without getting your arse handed to you, the only way I've found to beat him to date is to assign Auto-Potion (having disposed of all but X-Potions), Auto-Phoenix and basically whatever support you fancy (Haste is good). Celestial Weapons come hugely in handy with their abilities too, mainly Double/Triple Overdrive which works wonders with the likes of Tidus, Rikku and Wakka.

So due to the FFX upgrade system, everything in the game can be easily managed. =/ A bit disappointing, but eh.

Or if it's just too hard to perform the above, and if you're feeling rather lazy yet desperate to defeat Penance... It is possible to take a risk at trying out for Zanmato. A one-hit KO for an otherwise difficult boss.

But i guess it'll spoil all the fun there is at trying against a boss that seems impossible at first encounter.

I've never actually encountered him, since I guess he's in the international version and well I don't have that. But! If I did, he would be one hell of a challenge for me, one that I would take up completely. It would probably be hard and from watching a battle on youtube with Penance, it's about half an hour long, I could probably get a feel for his attacks in no time and quickly assess what would be needed to probably more or less keep my party in high HP. Of course the time taken to beat the Boss depends on the player and what tactics and stratagies

I was a bit surprised to see his body fall away, here I was thinking 'Wow that didn't take long.' only for it to keep going and that just be the body. 'Oookay.' Oblivion looks like a hardcore attack, but I think that if you have your Sphere Grid maxed to the point where there is nothing else on it you can gain, and have your characters leveled up big time and have plenty of X Potions, plus Hastega cast on all members, it probably wouldn't be that bad. But it would take some serious hour time to get the party that strong, to get the right weapons/equipment and of course to max out the Sphere Grid.

Of course, watching the battle is always easier to actually playing the battle so I'm sure it might possibly take a couple tries to take this boss down. But like I said it would be a challenge that I would welcome with open arms, give or take a Dr.Pepper sitting on the side XD.

Also the Immolation attack doesn't look as bad as it probably is, the only good thing is that it attacks only one party member at a time. And I'm not sure but I think it casts Break on whatever party member was hit, but a quick fix of Dispel can take care of that in no time. Also Saïx is right about the Celestial Weapons, from what I have seen they really do come in handy big time so it would be a good idea to get them and equip all members with their respective weapon. Another more then likely good thing is Quick Hit. The think the Regeneration for the arms would get a bit tiresome after a while, but eh nothing too bad.

But like I said before, watching the battle is easier then actually playing it.

I've never faced Penance either, not because I haven't got the international version or because I wasn't strong enough, but simply because I didn't know he even existed. I have heard on other forums though, that beating him is made easy by using Zanmato and scoring yourself a no-hassle instant kill. If I feel I want to ever go back and play through FFX ever again for nostalgia sake, I'll be sure to take this big-daddy down.

I've read that too, I wondered if Zanmoto really would be able to take him down. I never knew he existed either until a few days ago, he does look like he would be fun to take down though. But i'd probably do it without using Zanmoto, it wouldn't be worth it if you could take him down in one hit =P so I'll go with just using the party members after maxing them all out lol, well err that is if I ever get the International Version of course ^^.

He (along with the Dark Aeons) is in the European version as well (Says 'PAL' up in the right hand corner). If you have that, you have Penance. ^_^

Penance himself is actually quite easy if you have max stats. All you have to do is formulate a pattern and follow it rigidly, changing it when necessary (For example, in his second form, his attack only targets one person and comes with all the breaks, so you'll have to dispel them). As long as you don't do anything that would drastically effect it (Like randomly cast blizzaga, killing your recovery time and losing turns) he'll fall eventually.

The key thing to remember is to ALWAYS KILL THE ARMS! Kill his right arm first, then go for the left. If at any point both his arms regenerate during the fight and his turn comes around before you can kill one, you might as well just restart your system cause there's NO chance of you surviving Judgement day. But, you shouldn't have to worry about that, providing you don't deviate from your pattern.
