So take a good look at this place:

Farplane.jpg

The Farplane. The Niagara Falls of FFX. The beautiful, yet somewhat gloomy location where we go to pay our respects to those we've loved in life dearly, but have passed on unfortunately.

However, when one goes to the Farplane, what do they do? As we see in the game, they seem to be posing behind an invisible wall for loved ones to gaze at in memorance of. Do they enjoy picnics in the Farplane? Do they communicate with each other in the beauty of the place and enjoy an after-life? If not, and they just float there like manicans, then it seems like this place is just a lovely waste of a few thousand acres of land.

What do you think is the most popular thing to do in the Farplane?

There's no evidence to suggest that they do anything at all.
They only take the shape of dead people when people visiting the farplane think of them. When they are seen they don't move at all. So it would be unlikely that have a life as it were.

I'm sure this will be everyone's new favorite thread because of your passionate reply!

Yea, I've often wondered what exactly the farplane was. Was it a collection of souls? Or was it simply a person's reflection of their loved ones when they looked into the magic semi-circular mirror on the wall? And if it was the prior, what did the souls of damned do while they waited.

If anything, it does appear that in Spira, the dead retain their consciousness when sent. Even without being sent, some unique individuals manage to maintain memories, hopes, dreams, and hobbies. So I do believe that the farplane is a collection of souls, or more likely a gathering of pyreflies that simply allow the dead to manifest themselves as their old selves. But either way, you're right that the dead in Spira do not operate as we believe the dead normally would. There does not really seem to be a "heaven" or "hell", simply a place where souls collect.

In response to your question though, I say blitzball. For the past 1,000 years it's been the only thing that every person in Spira can cling to. It's been Zanarkand's passion and it was Spira's escape from Sin... I think they spend the majority of their time either playing in blitzball or anticipating an upcoming game.

I don't think those dead guys do anything. Isn't it just the pyreflies or w/e they were called, that just show the image of the dead person you are thinking of....?

Anyway, I reckon they just float around waiting for people to turn up so they can create some dead person. It would be a good place to hold the wake though, it's easily the prettiest place in the game :monster:

It's just full of all the pyreflies that are created when a person dies. You only see people because the pyreflies supposedly react to you thoughts and memories allowing you to see the person's image.

This is why Tidus can see his mother even though she was just a dream like him, he thought about her, and she appeared.
