Old Cartoons

Leki, you are too right. I mean, back in the day, shows like Animaniacs and Rugrats were the shizz. Now all of the new cartoons are crazy and don't make any sense and the characters look like they're on crack for the entire 30 minutes. I dunno, maybe that's how young adults looked at our cartoons when we were little, but really, I think the quality of cartoons has seriously declined. Or maybe we're just growing out of it.

There hasn't been a decent American made TV cartoon that wasn't superhero related made in the last 10 years... period.

The 80's was the best time for American cartoons... with Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, Silverhawks, Bravestarr, Masters of the Universe, Ghostbusters, The Real Ghostbusters, and countless others.

The early 90's wasn't bad either... with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round, The New Adventures of He-Man, Highlander: The Animated Series, X-Men, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Batman: The Animated Series, and what not.

Not even the modern Superhero cartoons can compare to that... though they are the only ones I would withhold my disdain for modern American cartoons from.

When Cartoon Network started making weird shows... it was the beginning of the end... and as soon as Sponge Bob came along, everything was down hill from there... I mean... I collect old 80's and early 90's cartoons on DVD, jsut so that when I have kids they can watch good cartoons that aren't stand alone Disney films... and thats just sad.

The 90s sure were epic, especially X-Men. That was the best cartoon series I've ever seen, and I was one of those kids who never read the comic book beforehand. Granted, I didn't understand bits and pieces of the show back then and the underlying themes like prejudice and all that, but it was still awe-inspiring.

Spiderman and Batman were slightly less cool, but still cool all the same. :elmo:

Animaniacs, Ren and Stimpy, the early Simpsons, Earthworm Jim, Freakazoid, Transformers, ReBoot, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Spider-Man and the X-Men were my faves back in the day.

Batman: The Animated Series was simply the best for me though.

Man, you've mentioned two of my favorite cartoons. I miss the good old days when I watched ReBoot, though I have faint memories of it. I remember an episode when they added a parody of "Evil Dead" in one of the episodes.:neomon:

ReBoot was cancelled over here soon after Enzo and the girl lost in the Mortal Kombat episode, ITV thought that it was getting too dark for kids and stopped showing it as a result. I was gutted to find out that they went to make another series but cancelled it after a few episodes. There are online campaigns to bring it back and there were reports that it was making a comeback which I hope it does but I've not heard anything for a few months.

Other classic shows I've remembered are Danger Mouse, Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines, Wacky Races and Tom & Jerry.

I'm a ninties kid, and lately I have been discussing old shows with people. Shows like:

Rocco's modern life
animaniacs
pinky and the brain
rugrats
freakazoid
beetlejuice

Yea, those were some good days. I LOVE PINKY AND THE BRAIN! hehe.

Rocko's Modern Life, Angry Beavers and Real Monsters are the ones I miss the most. =(

They were awesome and I remember waiting for them to come on T.V every afternoon. >.<

The kiddy cartoons these days just don't seem to be as nice as they were back then or funny. =/

Bumpity bump.

I'll post a few videos that I think should come knocking down our doors once again. Most of these are from the early 90s. I think I stopped watching cartoons (or at least stopped liking the ones they aired by then) towards the late 90s...maybe 1997+. I was very picky and didn't really enjoy a lot of them even though they are still considered as classic cartoons to this day. I was more into the late 80s and early-mid 90s.

---

Mighty Max - Used to watch this before heading off to school when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade I believe.

X-men - Can't resist Gambit..

King Arthur and the Knights of Justic - Reallllly old, so kudos to those who actually remembers this and stay tuned back in the days.

Bobby's World

Gargoyles

Double Dragon

TMNT (1987)

Taz-mania

Animaniacs

Conan the Adventurer

And that's all for now. I miss those shows, but I think out of all of them, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice tugs more at the heartstrings for some reason. Can't really pinpoint it...

I have every episode of He-Man, Trasformers G1 and Superfriends on DVD. Cartoons from this era were just awesome even if they were awful.

He-Man was the first cartoon to ever go straight to syndication (i.e. a new episode 5 days a week - a 65 episode season vs 13). It shows too - the writing and plots were awful but when you're 5 years old it's like crack. I actually thought the updated series that CN was running back in 2002 or 2003 timeframe was pretty good but it didn't last.

Transformers was my personal favorite but it's a travesty how it's been bastardized over the last 2+ decades. It's like fucking Pokemon with Robots now.

Superfriends was great as well - especially the Battle of the Superfriends featuring the Legion of Doom.

A couple others I liked:

- MASK
- COPS (No, not the redneck police show)
- King Arthur and the Knights of the Round
- Scooby Doo (another that's been bastardized)
- Josie and the Pussycats (Grrrrrr...)
- The cartoon version of WWF back in 80's.
- Pacman
- GI Joe
- Voltron
- Go Bots (kinda like gay Transformers but it was still cool...)

G1, when you get right down to it, was just awful. Referring to what you said about He-Man: It was great when you were 5 and fun to watch now, but just..augh..no plot. The best TF series IMO have been Animated (promotional art sucked and while it was a bit slow to start, the series came to be awesome) and Beast Wars (in b4 trukk not munkky).

- King Arthur and the Knights of the Round
I remember this one, but to be honest I was more into Skeleton Warriors at the time.

- Scooby Doo (another that's been bastardized)
I don't like how every ghost/monster they fight is real now. I liked it better when the main villain was some old man who'd lost his company in a takeover so he could rant at those meddling kids and their dog.

Other cartoons I watched...well outside of G1, Beast Wars, and Skeleton Warriors, I also followed Reboot, and when the 90's set in; Rugrats and KaBlam (ACTION LEAGUE...NOW!)

Cartoons that I liked:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It sounds like a stupid concept but the cartoon was awesome. And the theme song was very catchy.

Ghostbusters. Another show I liked. It scared me a few times. And the theme song for this was also awesome

And I'll just list the rest. Rocko's modern life, Rugrats, Doug, X-men, Thunder Cats, strawberry short cake, Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers. And many more

Oh and can't forget animaniacs :)

Augh...I must be more tired than I thought...I totally forgot about TMNT, Animaniacs, X-Men, Ducktales, Talespin, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck...

and of course the greatest show of all time:

If you do not understand why I posted Emmitt Nervend, shame on you.

I know man all the stuff we grew up on is gone and replaced by the new generation cartoons. I loved the old stuff and still do. Such as the Rugrats. Man I could go on with a list. D: I wish their was a seperate channel for all that. (Yes I know there is Boomerange or w.e its called.) But ehh. :/

I know there is this one site, its retrojunk.com that has everything we grew up on. :P

I used to love watching X-men and Rainbow Brite when I was a little kid, then I turned to Cartoon Cartoons when those got taken off the air, like Courage, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, etc. as well as the Nick Toons like hey Arnold, Aah! Real Monsters, Angry Beavers, and so on.

I remember asking a 12 year old about what they thought about that stupid show Total Drama Island and they replied, "Is this what they think we like? I'm TWELVE and I know this is sh*t!"

~I have always loved the older cartoons then this newer stuff i mean a few things are watchable but older cartoons are actually funny and just amazing and kick-ass to watch XD! I am a 90s girl but i have always loved the really old cartoons like Looney Toons, Mighty Mouse, Tom & Jerry, and other things like that.
~But for cartoons in the 90s definitely Animaniacs, Scooby Doo(the good ole fashion ones), Gargoyles, TMNT, Taz-mania and a bunch more.
~But those older cartoons are just the best lol if you want me to be completely honest i have about 7 Looney Toons DVD sets a few Tom & Jerry sets and a few other stuff :x3:. I have never been able to get over the wonderful old cartoons their just to great of shows to forget :P

To me it seems like when there are good cartoons, they come in onsalughts. You will either have a slew of good cartoons, or a slew of bad cartoons. I'm not really sure what's up with that.
