Ok, I don't want to miss anything. I am about to meet Quistis in the training area. But so far I have gotten 3 bomb cards, leveled up to 18, learned card mod, doom, the card ability, tool-rf, turned fish scales into 3 sets of 100 waters spells, gotten the starter card deck, changed the one card into a move for Quistis' Ultra Waves, and got the ifrit card. Is there anything else I need/can do at this point before moving on in the game? I haven't played anyone cards yet. I think I need to go back & play Zell's mom, and someone in the cafeteria at this point. Wanna make sure I am not forgetting anything, as I wanna play it through complete.

:cactaur:

I'd say you're doing pretty good right now. You're definitely higher leveled and have more things sorted out than I normally do at this time. You don't have anything that is missable coming up, so for now, I'd say just continue with the storyline. Getting the Zell, Quistis and MiniMog cards are definitely a good idea, but aren't missable, so it's not a must to get them now. But getting them will make card playing a little easier from here on out (until the Random and Plus rules start being used).

For now, I think the only missable things for the rest of disc 1 would be at Galbadia or in Deling City during the assassination. Everything else you should be able to acquire later on. Best of luck!

The zell card you can't get until you have zell in your party anyway, so no use trying! If you level up a bit more and learn boost for Quezacult you will be able to beet the bit spider thing in dolet (just weeken it a bit and cast quezacult - try boosting it as much as possible) this wil not only save you time to earn more points for your SeeD rank, but it will also earn you a nice amount of ap (50) earch time you destroy it. it will still get back up and chase you but you can learn alot of GF abilities fast this was (easily 200 ap worth). As for the card game, don't forget to save befor a card game ESPECIALLY in a new area that may teach you an undesirable rule! if you want to get every single card as I have, you HAVE to avoid speading the 'random' rule! To do this, either reset if you ever learn it, or better sill, abolish it from an area by teaching it to balam and then playing the area that has the random rule again but with a rule it doesn't have... you will either teach them the new rule, do nothing, or abolish the random rule! this is random so just reset until the ramdom rule if abolished then go to balam and play the guy sitting in the dock area (this will remove all the rules from balam - getting rid of the unwanted random rule that you hda to teach them) then just re-teach the rules you want to the balam area!

Don't forget to draw the GF from Biggs or Wedge (can't remember who it is) in the communication tower on your first mission.

The original poster should get a walkthrough or look at some faqs. Some things like cards are missable. ingredients for some weapons are missable. Even summons (GFs) and spells. As long as you know what your looking for you will do good. I suggest gamefaqs or IGN.

BTW
The monster that comes down after Biggs and Wedge has the siren GF.

Just get online on print-out a list with all the GF locations. If there's anything I hated about FF8, it's constantly worrying if you've missed a GF and not be able to obtain it if you forgot.
You may want to do the same for weapon tools also. Half of them are damn near impossible to find_

I agree....

some people prefer to avoid faqs, afraid it will take away their enjoyment of the game if they use one.

I usually use Split Infinity's faqs, available on several websites including gamefaqs.
I don't like him very much personally because of our differences over FFXII, but he is the best faq writer in my opinion.

good luck.

Like I said before, you're doing yourself a favor by getting a GF location/weapon tool list. Not doing so will take away the enjoyment of the game.
And I don't consider this a spoiler, and neither should anyone, but when you get to disc 4, say goodbye to just about everything. You WILL need a guide to salvage what is still salvageable (which isn't alot)

By all this, I do not mean get a guide and ruin the experience, just get those two things I mentioned. You'll be damn glad you did.

ooooooooo where do i begin, i spent about 20 hours playing zells mam before heading off to timber, every single card i got i refined, it gave me almost every single advanced level spell, i had 300 of each for my main party.

i have a list of everything you can get before heading off to timber. ofcourse thats if you wnat them to be insanely overpowered, your free to have it :D

ohh also you can get a bunch of player cards aswell:

Quistis - Trepie Group one has this in the cafeteria
Seifer - Cid has it on Level 3
Zell - Zells Mom has it

If the guy wanted a guide he would have asked "Should I get FFVIII walkthrough?"
The OP sought out help from from forum members and you say get a guide?

Listless!

You may be past it, but get the lamp from Cid near the entrance.........it has Diablos, there aint much between the Garden and catching the train.........this is the best time to get the Zell card from Ma Dintch!

its not a walkthrough or a guide eventhoug i have worded it as this, it is a list of all the magic, cards, and weapons you can get before timber and how to get them :mokken:

Dont fold your arms at me boy.

That werent at you specifically MarkII just a general grievance........eCoplanet asked for help and people send him else where.........whats the point in that?

After yu get on the train pay attention to the various things in the dream sequence, boulders, trap door, dropped keys.

if you need more reference a guide!
