Official Poker Club

Well like I said, if you wanna play on Facebook, that's all well and good. I'm not going to sign-up for Facebook just to play poker. If you do play and care to share your experience in here, that would great!

Well, an undisclosed source had notified me that they may be able to code an applet for us, but with their lack of knowledge in poker and the complexities that may be involved, I said it might be a tad difficult. But I figured it wouldn't hurt to search for a website that may have all this coding taken care of. Well I found some places and I wanted you all to take a look and see what you thought. But first I'm gonna talk to a Mod or Admin to make sure it's ok to put the links up (don't want to get in trouble for advertising).

Personally, it seems that AbsolutePoker may be the best bet, but I haven't spent a lot of time researching it. Any input and opinions would be much appreciated. Let me know what you think!<o:p></o:p>

The problem is that, from what I can see, the only way to create a private table is to create a "real money" table. And while I don't have a general problem with that, it would turn off some people from joining in. Plus, legally, you'd have to be 18 to play. Thirdly, I'm not sure FFF would want to promote a gambling site like that. I think the best bet is if you can get your anonymous benefactor to create that coding. That solves all of the problems, really. Because then we could actually create multi-table tournaments with a buy-in, starting chip amount, etc.

Oh, that's a bummer! Yeah for many reasons I didn't want any of this to involve gambling. I mean, after all, I wouldn't feel right taking everyone's money :wacky:. Yeah, I just wanted to find something with play chips and no real money. I suppose I can go back to the drawing board to see if I can find something else, or research Poker Stars or Full Tilt a little further. My anonymous source is still going to work on the game anyways, so that will still be in motion, but I can't guarantee how good that will work. I'll see if I can figure something out. I'd prefer to not use real money. One, I believe most gambling sites don't allow you to withdraw your earnings until you reach a certain amount, which sucks to say the least. Two, I just don't have the financial resources available for me to be gambling at this time. Oh how I love this current economic situation.

Play chips are much preferred. ;3
 
i agree. besides i myself am under 18 and wouldn't be allowed to play.

Well, I never did mention what the many reasons were for why I didn't want the game to involve real money, but these are definitely 2 of them. More than anything, I just want this to be fun and when real money gets involved, things will be much more serious. I like you all, I wouldn't want a game to stand between us after all.

With that said, I did more research and I've found something that will definitely work! Check it out, it's called 5PM Poker.

With this, we can create tables and send out invites to the people we want to participate. I'll also link you to that so you can understand how it works. Now I've never heard of this program, and it's supposedly new, but it doesn't require a program download and it's 100% free! I looks really cheesy, but we can at least have the freedom to just play with our friends and make our own rules. Basically how it works is, you set up a time and date for when the game is to start, then e-mails will be sent out as formal invitations to play, and you can choose to accept or decline the game. The only problem is, I haven't read anywhere how the time will work. I know most of you probably aren't in the same time zone as I am, so I'm wondering if the site controls the clock and we go by that or the invites will have to actually calculate the time based on the person that invited them. But for now, this can at least get the ball rolling on trying to set up some Official Poker Club games!

And also with the invite system, anyone can invite others into games, which is great because it won't solely depend on me to control everything. This way if you're somewhere in Europe and you want to play some of your friends that are closer to you, you can feel free to do that. I admit that I work roughly 45 hours a week, and won't be available much during the week in the daytime, so it would be better for you all if you wanted to play, seeing as how some of you may prefer to play during the hours I'm at work or unavailable. Sweet. I'm signed up. Is there a way to create private tournaments? Or would we have to coordinate that off-site somehow?

On a random side-note, I realized that Hold 'em is the only game we can play on this particular site. I personally would have liked variety, but I'm guessing most everyone would rather play Hold 'em more than any of the other right? I know this website is really new too, and it's possible they may also include the other games in time when they code them out. But I just wanted everyone to know and understand that.

From what I've seen, I think it runs on the creaters time. Not sure though.
 
Bah can't play at work, it would be flagged as a gambling site even if it isn't real money. Plus ... games at work period are a big no no.

I'll see what I can do when I get home tonight.
 
Thanks for signing up SaShman! I didn't get around to asking for e-mails yet, since only 4 of us are signed up at the moment, but that was going to be the next step. I was going to ask for people to send it by PM, this way those who weren't comfortable putting their e-mail address on the forum wouldn't have to. But hey, that works anyways, it will be noted and when we start sending invites, we'll see if we can make it happen! :awesome:

Well Shu, it's all based on invitations, so you would get an e-mail providing the time and day the game will happen. You'll have a choice to accept or decline the invitation, so if the hours don't work, you can simply decline it and not worry more about it. So it won't be a deal where you just come in and play at a random time. And also, I wouldn't invite you during work hours, I know you have similar hours as I do, in which it would be a no no for me to play at work as well. Actually, it would be easy for me to get you to play, seeing as how you're only an hour difference from me. Getting the members with the larger time difference will be much more difficult, but I'm sure I can find a decent time for you to come out and play, so no worries about me inviting you during work hours. Others may try to invite you at those times if they choose, but I won't bug ya then.
