Final Fantasy game movie trailers are less game trailers and more movie trailers. So, the new Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer wouldn't seem that different. It is! According to the game's director, Tetsuya Nomura, the trailer features at least one scene rendered in the PS3 in real time. The scene is where main hero Noctis meets blonde-haired heroine Stella. If that wasn't enough (it never is), the main character uses a shortened nickname of his moniker which means "of the night".

Says Nomura:
His name is Noctis, but in game, he's typically called 'Noct.' In the scene in the promo trailer, Stella calls him by his full name.
Well, dur. You can't just start off calling him "Noct." Gotta work up to that. And if you get really tight with the guy, maybe, just maybe you can call him "Nocty"

Interesting, I like the name Noctis, it has a cool ring to it and from what I've seen of his design so far, it seems to fit well in my opinion. I don't think Noct sounds half as cool though.

Added information...

Stella: Lord Noctis can see the light also, right? I also can see it.
Some time ago, down stairs, ..that thing we saw, that was the 'light' wasn't it?

Noctis: It's rather better not to talk about those things.

Stella: Occasionally the 'light' will be seen by someone and that person will be gifted with 'power'. This is from the link created between the deceased city and ours by the Goddess Etro. (pending proper name translation)

That's what is said by Tenebuira.

Noctis: That's the same deal here, it seems.

Stella: Lord Noctis was awarded 'power'?

Noctis: Being like the others would be better. It's a problem. (Need to see some better text for reference)

Stella: That 'light', what do you think it really is?

Noctis: It's always 'there' am I not right? Ah..,

Stella: I'm Stella.

Noctis: Stella, I'll have to be leaving soon.

Stella: I'm sorry for holding you up, Lord Noctis.

Noctis: Just 'Noct' is fine.

Stella: I'll also be leaving. Today I feel that I also received that so called 'power'.
I was able to talk to you.

If it's good for you, next time please come to Tenebuira. I'll show you around.

Noct: That seems good.. I'll give it some thought.

(Stella leaves)

Noct raises his head towards a sound coming.

"Who are you?"

Noct: That's my line.

I quite like the name Stella, although Im not to fond of the name Noctis, it sounds like a disease >_>

Feh, Im sure I'l get used to it....if I get the game that is...which Im sure I will >_<

Noctis reminds me of Noctowl :| i have a weird image in my head now.

I cant wait for FF Versus XIII i think i'll enjoy it more than XIII.

Now we gotta wait till it's released.

Laughable names imho. Whenever I think Stella I see....an image of Stella Artois. Oh well, I'm sure more decent names will come along...

I'm just glad that neither of the two names have anything to do with this weather theme the creators seem obsessed with. I would have died if Noct's name had turned out to be "storm" >_>

I like both of the names, especially Stella which is just downright adorable ^^ Noctis has a really regal and powerful feel to it, but the nickname "Noct" sounds kind of silly imo...I suppose it'll just take some getting used to.

The names of the two were revealed at the Tokyo Game Show to be Noctis Lucis Caelum and Stella Nox Fleuret. Stella is described by the magazine as a princess in the Fleuret family.

She and Noctis are shown in the magazine's screens discussing their ability to "see light." This may not sound all that special at first, but in Versus XIII, it's an ability that Noctis suggests keeping quiet about. Stella appears to be more open about the matter, even asking Noctis when he gained the ability.

Wondering what the characters' names mean? Typical for the FNC series, the two names are Latin. The three parts of the hero's name mean "Night, Light, and Sky." The three parts of the heroine's name mean "Star, Darkness, and Sword." Darkness is also the meaning of Stella's country's name.

Director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura shared with the magazine a few additional details on the characters. Nomura feels that the trailer footage (which you probably haven't seen, unless you made it out to the Tokyo Game Show) tells us a lot about the personalities of the two characters. Stella, for instance, is shown speaking politely to Noctis and without any apparent reserve. This is a reflection of her strong upbringing. In contrast, Noctis appears to be running away, and won't even make eye contact. It may appear that Noctis is cold and unsocial, but he's actually just shy, and he hides his shyness by putting on a veil of coolness.

Regarding Noctis, Nomura also notes that he may say one thing, but by watching him closely, you'll get the feeling that there's something different about him. His friends are often able to see through the cover, though.

:monster:

Noctis...ok that one is pretty decent but stella? sounds like the writers were having a drinking binge when they thought of that one :p

I'm likin' the name Noctis not so much on the Noct or Nocty tho
Sounds fitting really

The name Stella reminds me of Estella from Great Expectations for some reason:confused:

The theme is very dark and "celestial"-like, so the names fit perfectly. Although Stella is a name I've heard frequently. lol

Agreed, i tought they were keeping giving them names taken from weather themes. I actually like the name Noctis, I was kinda suprised when i knew we was 'Supposelly' called 'Nacht'. Bu good thing it was just more than a rumor. (K)nock this :P

I also like both names as well, Stella is a very feminine name and its somewhat close to Estella. Which I have heard it before IRL. I don't like Noct, doesn't sound too good, I rather call him Noctis.

I like both the names also, although Stella makes me think of Stella McCartney, that's the only famous Stella I can think of :neomon:

Noctis or Noct both sound pretty good, maybe it's cos the words are quite unusual but sound nice when you say them

When I think Stella, I think "Steeeeeeelll----lllaaaaaaaaaaa!" (From Tennesee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire)

I like it though. As a name I give it a 7. Noctis is good, but strange, and doesn't rool off the tongue. I still kinda like it though. It seems a tad cheesy, or is tha tjust me? Like I said I still like it, also a 7. Noct though, I hate. It really doesn't roll of the tongue and sounds plain strange. I give it a 4.

I think that Stella will fight Noctis at first but then they will eventually fall in love and all that stuff. Maybe Stella will become a princess. Stella is a beautiful girl so when Noctis fights her I do not think they will clash swords for long.

I would love Square if they were just brother and sister ... and the fact that their names go together so well was because of their parents ...

I just hate predestined romances >_<

One of the trailer's actually show's both of these two character's looking like they are about to fight.

I like the Name Noctis, very original and not often used (Ever), I have a feeling that he's going to end up being Like Vincent Valentine, he kinda looks like him too >_<

Stella is an okay name, It makes me think of CSI:NY though, which isn't really bad actually, Stella from CSI is one of my favorite characters, The character looks like Namine/Kairi.

One of the trailer's actually show's both of these two character's looking like they are about to fight.

Yes, the newest one did, but there was also a look of doubt and concern on Stella's face right before they fought and a look of shock on Noct's. It's really hard to say. Maybe they're destined to fight, but are reluctant to do so?

Well, for us the name Stella is common but for the Japanese people it's exotic.
I somehow like the personalities of the characters because they are just like everyday people which makes them more real and maybe more influencial(?)
