He its not hard, he only takes too long to kill Penance takes the cake.

Dont be fooled by the bosses HP.. You can leave and save anytime you want. It is actually quite easy but you could say that it is the boss that takes the most preparation. The hardest boss to figure out imo is Penance(ffx european version only), without looking at any strategy guides or anything just trying to figure out his patterns by yourself. Yiazmat once you are prepared is a ride in the park.
To each their own. I'll take those two you mentioned, plus IX's crystals, XII's license board, and every classic game's system except for II ahead of the Junction system.

9 was too simplified, in FF8 you can survive attacks like level 5 death and malboro bad breath, in 9 you can avoid death only with special equipment, the license board is a pain in the ass, having to use license to equip weapons and armor is the dumpest thing i have ever seen.
As I said, to each their own. Drawing was grinding, the card game was irritating.

You didnt had to, the game was so easy that juctioning just finished to break the game, the limit breaks are what completely destroy the game difficulty, later you coul refine items and cards into magic and the card game is awesome.

I'm not at all arguing that the game was difficult...
The use of juctioning is for prepare your characters for battle, but since the battles are so easy you DIDNT had to draw lots of magic to beat the game (Unless your facing enemies in Island closest to hell), my point is that if the issue was the constant draw of magic you just needed to not draw too much magic at all and you could finish the game witouth bothering to junction.

Oh well.. Regarding the difficulty thats my misunderstanding. Usually when people(those who dont like ff8) complain about the junctioning system on its own(w/o mentioning the draw system) they say it was too complicated to grasp at first I thought you were on the same boat XD. Besides what kratoscar said is true, if you took your time to analyze the gf's abilities and the utility of the cards you would realize that you could be unstoppable as far as disk 1.
Nevertheless if you dont like it you dont like it but perhaps someday you should give the game another try

Well here is my advice
I - is very basic gameplay (came out on NES) very basic story line, you pick four hero's and keep those four heros all game as you go place to place. If you want a feel of how RPGs were when they first came out you can try this if you want, I think it is on almost any system you can get (Ps3, PSP, GBA, PS)
II- This one has character developement, a real story with characters interacting in it, this is arguably everyones least favorite leveling up system, If you played the saga games, the director of those made this game, it is real experimental with leveling up, it isn't your traditional level up, each choice you do helps you level up, even getting it! again can be found on most systems you can buy now.
III- Only played this once, it is on the DS, I can't say much about it, since I didn't really like it... sorry
IV- one of my favorite games of all times (probably cause it was my first rpg and my first FF game
) it was on the Snes when it first came out, but this has your basic leveling up system again, characters come and go, a great story line, and the battle system is ATB (active time battle)
Im running a little short on time so I will either make another post or edit this one for the other FF games if you want.

V- Ok FF V goes to a simple story line, you control 4 characters, and you can change there jobs constantly, you level up each person and each class for that person, it has the mid evil feel to it just like every other game, and I think you can get it on PSN, PS1, and GBA...
VI-The first game to not have a midevil feel to it, this is the first game to have it where characters can equip magic things called Espers, that well let you learn new magic for each person depending on what Esper you equip. you can first game that lets you flip in and out characters you want.
VII- First 3D FF game, this game has many prequel and sequels. The game lets you change characters when it becomes avalible, and like the esper system they have magic called materia, that you can equip to your armor or weapon. You level up each person, and the Materia level's up on its own. Arguably the most popular FF game, you can find it on the PSN.
VIII- the Junction system that you talk about, some people hate it some like it... You basically can equip GF's (summons) and then you "Draw" magic from monsters, and from that you equip the magic to the GF's (or thats the best way to describe it.) Also you get parts from cards or monsters, to make better Weapons. you can get this game on PS1 or PSN
