New to FFIX

Just a note, you don't necessarily need two separate threads for an answer to what is essentially the same question. Just keep it in this thread. =]

Well, I'd say that's up to you. Do you own both games? Are both games available to you?

Because I think IX is a great game, and I haven't actually played VI. However, I do recommend IX if you have it, because I think it's a really interesting game, and although I haven't finished it (it's actually my brother's copy and he's got it at the moment) I really think it's worth it.

I need the differing opinions.

I have both games. I'm leaning towards FFVI but FFIX seems to be more interesting in terms of plot and as video game.

I would say play VI first, since it's older..

These two games actually share a bunch of similar qualities, however IX is a more evolved game with expanded aspects and gameplay mechanisms found in previous games.. So if you play VI first you'll have familiarity with the basics found in IX.

Play both of them. Problem solved. :D

No but it depends on what sort of story you want. FFVI is a bit more steampunk (to me at least) and FFIX is more traditional. They're both interesting games, and they both have good stories and characters. I would say both. Randomly pick one first and then play it then play the other.

Although the one I like more is FFIX.

I've played FFVII, FFVIII, FFX. FFVII is my favorite game but I'm interested in these two games. I will play both games. I just want to choose one to play first, not both at the same time.

I'm personally not a huge fan of FFIX. I like it... but to me, it's what FFXIII was to a lot of people. It's more focussed on a very medieval setting, with a more traditional, mystical form of magic and summoning compared to other titles, which make it more advanced and technological.

I love Final Fantasy VI's steampunk elements, because the technology is a part of the story and it feels a little more modern and less... ancient.

On a more... materialistic note, I feel the art of Final Fantasy IX went down from Final Fantasy VIII, mainly because of the infamous massive heads of IX. I just don't like em much. I guess that makes me kinda shallow, huh? :lew:

In short, I prefer VI over IX any day of the week.

I've decided on FFVI. I just defeated a giant Snail. :) Fun fun fun. The fight reminded me of the scorpion in FFVII. First bosses are so funny. :)

Based on what you've currently played, it seems like you will enjoy IX more. I'd start with IX, it'll be more suited to your expectations. However VI is a great game, and you should definitely get to it after completing IX. Switching from the 3D VII - X into the 2D VI is going to be quite a big change, but at least you will get to experience the snes roots and see how the FF series has developed. I do love the music and characters in VI, perhaps more than any other game, so it's a good one to play. The only downside to VI is I find the random encounters are far to frequent and pointless, but if VII is your favorite it might not bother you as much.

Enjoy.

fwi since your playing six... just remember there are a bunch of wierd bosses like the snail..and most bosses are just annoying.... im a huge fan of VI dont get me wrong...but i never really liked that many of the bosses in the game...

Well FFIX is known as the Reoccuring Final Fantasy, as I like to say. Final Fantasy has a little bit of all the final fantasies in the them. So if you want to play VI first you can. Both games are great. I personally like IX better though. Great story.
