Sony today has annonced a new model of the psp at gamescon.. it has a new design as you can see from the picture above and the model has no wifi in it... but this is soo sony can keep it at the cheap price of €99.

Early reports say that this model will only be released in europe and is due out this fall.

Sony also annonced a price drop for the ps3 reducing it to $249 say price for euros and annonced a bunch of new info on the psvita

Hopefully the new PSP is hackable.

Looks to have a matte finish and the PS, start, select, and volume buttons are touch controlled instead of buttons. On top of that the mute button and brightness button appear to be missing and there's only one speaker. I wonder if it'll have better battery life :hmmm:

As Stevie said, no WiFi, but it's still a damn good deal for just 100. I'm not sure about the hackibility, though. No WiFi isn't all too bad. You can get the demos and stuff any other place because I'm sure you can connect it to the computer and sync stuff through MediaGo.

No WiFi. Does anyone know if you can manually connect to the internet? Or is that just wishful thinking?

I don't think you can. It probably has an edited XMB that doesn't have the internet options or the PSN. No point to have WiFi if you can't really do anything with it :P But that means that LBP on the PSP is pointless.

Looks nice, but...uh, PS Vita is due out next year? Why bother releasing another PSP model without AT LEAST fixing the analogue stick so that it's actually useable for games like Monster Hunter when the Vita is just around the corner?

Honestly, Nintendo have just done this with the Wii, as well...if they release their next consoles months after they come out in the US, and this is a "Sorry guys, but whilst you wait, here's another version of the same console you've been playing for years" thing, I am going to go bloody mental...

I really do not see a point in this new PSP. Playstation Vita is already the 2nd PSP and this is just a psp with no wi-fi and it is really cheap. It surely will not attract much people with the Vita coming out. It has no access to Playstation network.. so that can suck for some people. This is just for people who don't care about downloads and such. :hmmm:

It's not meant to anyway. It's just for people (like me) who still want a functioning PSP to play their UMDs on and aren't seeking to get a Vita straightaway. The low price is also a significant plus considering the very low-key state of the PSP lately, though I do wonder why Sony can't simply drop the price of the normal PSPs anyway.

Still, you're right. You wouldn't be getting this if you're fussed about Wi-fi and getting on PSN via your PSP, but this move is still a little odd considering it does narrow down what is already a narrow consumer base now.
