I was wondering what everyone thought the most emotive actor they've seen is. Meaning how they show emotion and make you feel for them.

Just because I was rewatching the LOTR series (as most of the SB dwellers know. I rant a litte :wacky:), and in the tragic scenes I noticed how excellent their facial expressions are. Especially Elijah's and Orlando's after Gandalf's passing, how Legolas is stiff, but still looks disbelieving, and Frodo is so childlike and pale, with his eyes red-rimmed. I just love it D:

No, this isn't a 'favourite actor' thread, there's a sticky for that. What actor do you think shows emotions best (even if it's just in one movie.)
I'll find some screenies of Elijah and Orlando when I can be arsed.

PS; Badass looks count too :wacky:

EDIT;; Here are the screenies.

He looks so innocent here, and it shows how hard he's going to find the journey without Gandalf by his side.

This expression is a split second before the next one, where Legolas tightens his eyes after looking clueless, in what I interpret is a grab for some explanation or reason.

In the words of our Vikki-dear;

"Because he's immortal, he doesn't understand death. He can't fully understand the anguish he's feeling, and he can't express it the way others do. The scene was meant to signify - in that one expression - how he was question his own mortality. Seeing someone of Gandalf's power fall, makes Legolas question his own life, and how significant he is in the grand scheme of things."

WOAH. I JUST MADE THIS A LOTR TOPIC. >__> A'ight people, make me look even worse by answering better than me.

Basically. These two display emotion best to me.

The only actor that springs to mind is Chris Lilley.

He is such an awesome actor!

I know I've already expressed my love for him in another thread but he really is the only actor who I've seen express emotions well!

In Summer Heights High he shows the mannerisms of three different people so effing well!

1. Ja'mie - A hot, popular, bitchy, two-faced year eleven girl. He plays her part so well. He knows how to act like a girl without overdoing it and without coming out as just another gay guy, who thinks they are acting like a girl. <_< He nails it on the head perfectly!

2. Jonah
- An Islander boy who misbehaves every second possible. The accent and the way he speaks is so well done that you couldn't believe he was also Ja'mie.

3. Mr G. - A gay/over enthusiastic drama teacher. He's scary and reminds me of my old teacher in high school. XD He knows the difference between acting as a gay guy and acting as a girl.

In one scene with Ja'mie you see her outside on the phone to her mum just after she has a fight with one of her friends. She's balling her eyes out and trying to get her mum to come and pick her up from school. XD

In this scene you see Jonah just after he's been expelled from school, and he ends up making a big scene, as his teacher has to literally drag him out of his class room.

In this scene you see scary Mr G. in the principles office just before he's about to hand in his resignation. XD Drama Queen. XD

In another scene with Jonah you see him once again disrupting his english class and being a smartass to his teacher. XD

Lilley is good, especially the way he fits all those characters xD I seriously think Ja'mie could pass as a girl at my school >.>

Summer Heights High is underrated :/

I like how even comedic actors can be considered good at displaying emotion and getting the message across ;)

Orlando Bloom is about as wooden as an ent. He's terrible in POTC, which still managed to be a good movie, despite sequels and Orlando.
Cillian Murphy is quite good imho, 28 days later, Batman Begins ( which is clearly the superior batman:gasp: ), The Wind that shakes the barley etc.
Christian Bale too in American Psycho, The Machinist and Rescue Dawn, along with the fact that he lost about 40 kgs for the Machinist and then put on 100 pounds for batman.

If he's terrible then what does that make Keira? -_-
I think Orlando was in that because he would make an attractive William. I don't think that was the case when he was cast as Legolas. >.>
And I really hope he did his own stunts in LOTR. Because.. those were cool -__-

Zhang Zyi all the way. She always gets some difficult roles and she performes them as a pro. She's also very good at crying.

Zhang wow's me everytime.

Almost exactly what I was going to post.
My sister is scared of Cillian, she says he's the creepiest person she's ever seen. I don't see that. He must have freaked her out in Red Eye.
(Which I thought sucked btw.)
He was great in 28 Days Later. Like when they were running up the stairs away from the infected, and he was freakin' out.

I can't think of many off the top of my head, I'd have to watch some movies again and whatnot, but Marcia Cross always comes to mind.

She's absolutely brilliant in Desperate Housewives, and in my opinion, the most powerful display of emotion shown from Marcia was when Rex died at the end of series one, and Bree finished cleaning the silverware before breaking down. It was a very controlled, very moving out pour of grief - especially when compared to Terri Hatcher's over-the-top banshee wailing when Mike dumped Susan a few episodes later :gasp:

Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep in Kramer vs Kramer show so much emotion that it's not even true. That movie is so emotionally charged it rips me to pieces every time.

Meryl Streep is amazing in everything she's in really. Deer Hunter, Silkwood, Out of Africa, even Lions For Lambs.
