Mass Effect is getting it's own live action theatrical debut. Legendary Pictures, who have been behind films such as The Dark Knight, 300 and Watchment, have obtained the rights to the film. And if that wasn't enough, BioWare's Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk and Casey Hudson will reportedly be brought on as executive producers. So it would appear that the film will stay true to the game (minus the choosing of this and that) with it's main staff staying with the film, but... I dunno...

Here's a few sauces

And somewhere on one of those links there was a mention of a Warcraft movie... wtf?

*sigh*

I'm sticking to my beliefs, ALL VIDEO GAME MOVIES SUCK!!

That being said, I already have absolute zero expectations of going good.

Ya I agree with Kevin here really. Video game movies suck and I dont think Mass effect will succed as a live action. Lol street fighter was so BAD..

Street Fighter was horrible. But I'm rather curious as to what sort of direction they'd take this... a summary of the three games? A completely new storyline?

Yeah was announced on the 360 forums. I just hope it does something good to the series, like boost its popularity more. But as mentioned video game movies suck, bar Tomb Raider :P

Oh dear xD

Video game movies hardly ever come out with glowing reviews or with much popularity. Still, I remain open to the idea and I'll be interested to see how a Mass Effect movie will turn out.

However, seeing as the Mass Effect games are known for an expansive universe with decision-making moments for gamers, a movie cannot replicate something like that. If I was an Xbox 360 gamer, I would probably stick to the games themselves.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...several fans cried out in dismay as one of their favourite series was about to get ruined by a movie adaptation.

The only video-game based movie I've ever liked is Mortal Kombat...and only because I like the theme tune. They do an even worse job with video-game films than they do with book films, and considering the state of the Harry Potter films, that is saying something...

At the mention of 300 and The Dark Knight, I had a horrible image of Gerard Butler as Shepard, with a CGI Saren asking him why he was so serious...before he got kicked into a starship reactor for threatening the crew of the Normandy with slavery and death. Those are good films, but they aren't exactly story-rich. 300 especially so. And I don't even like Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker, or Christian Bale, period.

About the only thing I'm looking forward to is Joker and Garrus. Joker because he's funny, and Garrus because he's...Garrus.

Interesting. I've played the first ME but haven't played teh second on (is not aware if it's even out yet or not). Regardless, I'll keep an ear out for this, considering they can't mimic the decision making that takes place in the game. Will be a delight to see how they decide to approach this task at hand.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I know that pretty much every single film-adaption of a videogame so far has sucked, but I don't see any logical reasons as to why that trend shouldn't buck sooner or later.

Mass Effect has everything it takes to make a succesful movie. Great setting, unique design, great storyline and characters, etc, etc. As long as the producers, writers, and director treat the source material with respect, I don't see why that shouldn't translate into a great movie.
