LukeLC's Wallpapers (Mostly FF-themed)

Some of you may have already seen my FFXII wallpapers, but I actually make wallpapers fairly frequently and as Final Fantasy is one of my favorite themes to work with, I figured I might as well just make one thread for all of them instead!

A couple things to consider:

~I try to always make sure my wallpapers come in both 16:10 and 16:9 formats, or one format that works well for both ratios. If anyone out there really needs a 4:3 version, that can be worked out

~Some of my wallpapers come in the .PNG format to preserve quality, so to use on Windows, you might have to open the file in Paint and save as .JPG or .BMP after downloading.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for, @PhoenyxAngel, but when I started doing a FFX-themed wallpaper, this just kind of came together. Originally I was going to try and fit in every major character, but I liked how clean this one felt (hence the codename 'clearwater').

@Happy Dog, I'll try to get around to doing those soon, too. I'm less familiar with FFIV and Tactics though, so I might do a little research on the games first

UPDATE: Moved Tidus/Yuna slightly for better composition.

Ok, FFIV is next, but when I came across this scene on Youtube I just had to make a wallpaper out of it, being the Lightning Farron fan that I am

Lightning Sunset: (fits 16:10 and 16:9)



It looks like a lot less than it actually is.

Lightning in this shot is actually comprised of multiple different snapshots from the same FMV. I took all the best parts of her facial expressions and combined them into one, which actually required adjusting the orientation of her head a bit, too. Then there was the background problem, because Lightning was centered, but I needed her off to the side, so I extended the background with a couple visual tricks. And then of course this was all sampled from a heavily compressed YouTube video, which meant the artifacts were pretty bad to begin with, and I was boosting the resolution from 720p to 1200p, so I added a soft glow to the whole thing to soften it and simultaneously add a little more feeling to the picture.

It's kind of different from my usual work, but I'm very happy with how it turned out!

As I said on msn, Luke, your Lightning wallpaper is absolutely gorgeous and I am impressed by the method you used and the result! I honestly thought this image was from an FMV when you showed it to me. =) The blurring works very nicely to prevent a wonky background. Furthermore, it helps to bring Lightning out and compliments her soft smile. =)

Why couldn't Lightning BE this happy?

It actually is from an FMV, I just sampled a bunch of different snapshots from it and put them all together in different parts

And as promised, here is the FFIV wallpaper, and in two flavors! The first is the main wallpaper, and the second is a "logo-like" version where all the characters mimic the appearance of the FFIV logo. Personally I don't much care for how the second one turned out, but it was just practicing with a new idea. I may try it again in the future with better results.

Salmakia 's requested Serah Farron wallpaper is on its way, but it was giving me some trouble at first, so it has taken longer than normal to get everything right.

For today though, I just had to make something to celebrate the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary!

Wow, this one took a lot longer than I expected, both due to being busy as of late, and the fact that the wallpaper gave me way more trouble than I thought it would. Unlike the Lightning Sunset wallpaper I did a few weeks ago, I can't even list all the tweaks this one required to get right, but I really wanted it to be a counterpart to said wallpaper and eventually I got it to work. It's still not perfect (namely, the color contrast is different than the Lightning one, but I couldn't get it to look right otherwise) but considering all the work that went into getting it here, I'm pretty happy with the result.

So at long last, here you go @Salmakia !

Oh wow, that's absolutely amazing! I love it! Thank you so much! The blending, the lighting - everything is superb! You really must teach me more about your technique! You should post a tutorial!
