License Board

Yeah, it did seem ridiculous when you had to gather license points to wear a hat! Hehe! They should've reserved it for magicks, techniks, augments, Quickenings and Espers.

I'm not so sure about the License Board, I liked the fact that you need license points for spells and abilities and stuff, but I wasn't too crazy on the fact that you needed them for weapons and armor.

I would have liked to see the License boards customized for each character, so the characters would essentially have their own classes. That way I would have felt more inclined to use my whole party instead of just three members. Also I think this would have helped give the characters more personality and in turn make them more interesting, Eg: if Fran was a Dragoon or if Penelo was a Black Mage ect...

I didn't like too much the License Board by a simple reason, you need to spend points in order to be able to use Weapons/Armours/Accesories. As for all the Magic/Quickenings/Gambits/Stat buffs and abilities, i think its fair enough.

I think the LB benefits training to be honest.

It can quite a long time level up on FF12, especially when you get up to level 50+, I mean the best you can hope for really is 3000 exp doubled by an embroided tippet, making it 6000, yet considering the amount you need later on to level up, it isn't that much.

So as you are levelling up, you are effectively gaining LP, and if you need LP, you're gaining EXP. Works hand in hand.

i like it cause it resembles the sphere grid from FFX and maybe people who dont have half a brain might figure out how to work it unlike in X&VIII where people dont pay attention to the tutorials thinking theyll understand them instantly when they wont.

also the augments section of the board is really helpful and the ultimate weapons take some work to weild.

I have mixed opinion's on it. I like it because it's new and something fresh, but i dislike it because there is no creativity in it, eventualy you will fill it all up and everyone will be the same.

Well u need a licence to wield a wep that is tottally gay and u need a licence to give u hp now thats even more gay

I didn't like using it at all. I found some of it useful like +50 Hp and that sort of thing. But to unlock them first was a pain in the ass. If I wanted to use this, I had to spend my points on this license to unlock a different one became tedious after a while, especially when it came down to spending my LP to equip weapon or armor.

I liked the license board. It was a new, refreshing concept added to the game, kind of reminded me of the sphere grid from X, and i liked that too. The license board, while it took forever to get enough LP to complete the whole thing, opens up new varieties once completed. Think about it: if you ever want to make someone something other than a fighter or a strictly magic user and you have their board complete, it's a simple armor and weapon switch and BOOM, new character direction. I think it allowed for more versatility to the character development and it let each person pick whom they wanted to be each "class". Just my take on it :-D

i liked it.. i didnt like the fact that unlike FFX's sphere grid you dont know what you getting till you got it and every character ends the same and dont have set ways like mage, warroir, dragoon ect.. but then again all these people saying why would you need a lisence to have a weapon.. why do you need a licence to own a gun.. and a licence to fish in some places.. and please dont say coz guns are reall... thats the point of games to seem real.. so in a way i see the point of the whole need licences bit.. and also it stops people from just playing it through easy.. when it means you HAVE to grind hard levels to get any futher

when it means you HAVE to grind hard levels to get any futher

Exactly. You see people moaning about how much things can cost in XII, you see them complaining about needing LP, and you see them complaining about how long it can take to level up. Well, if you need gil, you're out killing foes for loot which means at the same time, gaining LP & EXP. If you need to level up, you're gaining LP and loot at the same time. If you need LP, you're gaining EXP and loot.

It all works together.

I thought it was alright. At first I hated it and I was confused, later I got used to it. If I had to choose between FFX Sphere Grid and FFXII Licence Board I would have to pick FFX. Simply because you don't need anything to be able to use a weapon. In FFXII you not only have to earn LP but you need a large amount of money as well. The whole thing with the abilities was okay I guess.

I didn't really care for the license board, seeing as how you have to buy the license for a certain weapon in order to use it. Just the other day I finally got the Zodiark spear, but couldn't use it because I was out of lp and it was a whopping 250 or something >_>

The one thing I did like about it was that it made things a bit more challenging. I also liked that you could set up your characters the way you wanted to and that you didn't already have a pre-determined archer/gunner ect. So I suppose I don't hate the lb, it's just annoying at times.

People need to quit whining about the cost of weapons. You think XII's are bad? They're nothing tbh, people need to play earlier FF's - FF1 was nasty for prices, XII's are reasonable. You can find decent weapons in chest, in bazaar deals, or just by randomly defeating an enemy, and by completing quests. Loot is easy to acquire and sell, you can build up chains to get better rewards.

At least you could unlock things pretty easily if you grinded. Grinding is a general thing anyway in FF, people level for money for weapons and spells etc.

Problem with X seeing as people mentioned it, was when you'd level up, so to speak, and you could move to the next sphere - you'd get empty spheres. I don't appreciate training and then just finding out theres a blank sphere and i have to wait until I move again.

People have brought up the issue of characters being individual, and having their own personality.

In my opinion, FFX had it spot on in that respect, with the standard Sphere grid. Each character did have a set 'class', but with a bit of effort, you could change it. When they reached the end of their set 'path', you could choose another path which complimented their stats or one that was completely different, it was near perfect.

With FFVII's materia system, I used to spread the magic materia out amongst the characters, which did water down each character's individuality, but with a bit of effort, you could make your own classes that would work pretty well if you made the effort to stick to them. This is where FFXII comes in, if you pick set roles for certain characters and stick to them, the license board can be used to pretty good effect.

I think it was a novel idea, and a good attempt to mix a few different elements of previous games, but it still felt a little half-baked to me. I must confess however, that I have never played FFXII to completion, so I don't know how well the License board worked later in the game.

I prefer this to the Sphere Grid, as it doesn't seem to limit you quite as much and is by far easier to complete. You don't really need to think very much when you fill up the License Board, and it doesn't cost an obscene amount of gil to max out your characters.

It was okay i thought, i was somewhat a farce when you decided to change someones weapons and you had to battle for ages to try and get to all the Greatswords and "better wepaons" like the Zodiac Spear and things of such, but all in all it was pretty good, not the best learning system but it's up there.
