Final Fantasy XIII fans expecting post-launch DLC could be in for a disappointment, if comments made by Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase are anything to go by.

Speaking to CVG in a recent interview, Kitase told us: "Unfortunately, it has been decided that no DL contents will be available for the Japanese version due out in December, while no decision has been made for the overseas versions."

So - depending on the accuracy of Square Enix's translation - either Japan's not getting any download content at launch, or it's missing out entirely.

While on the subject of online features such as DLC, Kitase said he doesn't feel under pressure to adopt the bulletpoints of Western RPGs such as Fallout 3 and Mass Effect.

"I do not feel any pressure," he said. "We intend to ensure that Final Fantasy titles we produce will be highly appreciated worldwide. Hence we always expose ourselves to inspirations from western products in attempts to digest and apply them for Final Fantasy."

I honestly don't really care that much for optional DLC. I rather not pay extra for an extra dungeon or however it would work outs. Think of it this way-you're buying the complete game, right?

It doesn't bother me if we get DLC or not. I never get DLC anyway. So it doesn't make a difference if they decide to include DLC or not.

DLC is not a big deal, unless its something important that answers questions in the storyline. Though if they do decide to have some, they better not pull a capcom and have it on the disc already. I can't imagine how many people will get pissed off if they did.

Im not angry about no DLC, no every game has it. Would be nice, but if its a no go then thats coolio with me.

Eh... we've played FF for years without DLC and SE don't have DLC for most of their games, as I've come to discover over the past few months. Doesn't really surprise me at all.

Final Fantasy does not require DLC. I have never been a fan of DLC, particularly rubbish ones such as Oblivion's horse armour or Fallout 3's Mothership Zeta.

DLC may be a good idea at first, but I can see developers abusing that and releasing deliberate incomplete games, with new cut out levels and equipment on the line to encourage players to pay extra for them.

Some extra weapons, possibly fine- but if it's a new sidestory, I wouldn't be. I buy FF games expecting to gain the whole package in the box.

DLC is epic, especially if developers put effort into it :monster: I'm glad it's not available at launch mind, if it were it would just scream "We could have put it in the actual game but we can screw you over and make money" which in all honesty, wouldn't surprise me with SE >.>

I agree with what you said. Some DLCs are alright, such as Fallout 3's Broken Steel. But it's your latter point I am scared of. Developers leaving things out for players to hand over cash to in order to acquire the full package. Under Wada's leadership of SE, I can honestly see that happening.

Can't teach an old dog new tricks, eh Kitase?:sup:

Then again, when have Square Enix EVER included DLCs with their games to begin with? I cannot say I can remember any games they made with those, so is there really any shock? Nada!

Both The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery contained DLC so it wouldn't surprise me if FFXIII got some too. The reason being no previous FF title has had it is because FFXIII is the first FF title to be release on the PS3/360 so they've never had the opportunity to give it DLC 8F

Well yeah no dlc for japanese launch but I can see it coming in the future. Also whoever is tweeting can get an exclusive fINAL fANTASY xiii Item. I ont know what it is yet but here are the details! http://xbox.com/ffxiii I cant wait to see what it is!

I wouldn't be surprised to see some DLC down the line, it keeps the game fresher for longer, I suppose. But I'm very glad that it's being launched without it, since it means the game we buy is the "full product" or so to speak.

If japan isnt getting any DLC then we sure as hell arnt. Would be stupid to release content at launch anyways. Smart money wise but would piss a ton of people off.
