Anyone else think his character was incredibly bland? In concept the idea of a beast man guardian that barely speaks, cares a lot about his summoner, has a sad background that is revealed through the game causing him to become somewhat more social sounds interesting. But it just didnt work...

The only thing i ever really felt for kimahri was pity, i mean losing his horn and being shamed out of his tribe really is rough! Oh and i also thought it was kinda sweet how he looked out for yuna.

And its not only his character, he aint no gem in battle either. He doesn't even have a path, he just flows randomly through the sphere grid which causes him in most cases to be the most under trained one.

I wish they could have took more time with him though because he seemed to have potential to be a great FF character.

I absolutely loved Kimahri really. He is my favourite FFX character for character design and appearance by far.

I think like you said the reason he was so quiet and hardly spoke is partly because of the trauma of being kicked out of his tribe, and also probably because he is constantly always keeping an eye on Yuna's surroundings in case she comes under any harm.

I didn't think he was bland really. Bit hard to be bland when you are a kick-ass blue lion man. I admit I'm not usually one for the silent characters that are made to be "bad-ass" but Kimahri came off as much more than that to me. Perhaps if he had silver hair or long black hair and was human and sulked a lot I would hate him, but the concept of him being a Ronso and losing his horn, and his style of speech really interested me.

I used to always try talking to him and I couldn't wait to hear him talk more or do something else in that game.

Battle wise I partly agree though. I used him a lot to begin with, but then it came apparant that he was slipping behind the other characters, probably because their sphere grids were kinder to them.

In terms of battle Kimahri is incredibly versatile. He doesn't have his own unique route so he can go down any of the others. If you decide to make him go down Auron's path he is just as strong as Auron.
I think he's only included because he was the one Auron spoke to after defeating sin and fighting Yunalesca etc.
So after that he is always with Yuna so he was already her guardian. He's an archetypal loyal but not very intelligent soldier/servant. He's ready to sacrifice his own life for Yuna by attacking Seymour by himself.

Kimahri was one of my favorite characters (if not my favorite character) in FFX. He didn't talk much but he still managed to have this presence that made him very unique IMO. You didn't need to hear him say anything to know what he was thinking or what his opinion on the subject. Not because he was predictable, but because you could tell by his body language; how he positioned himself in general as well as in relation to particular characters, the expressions on his face, etc.

I always felt bad that I never really used him, his sphere grid path was so small and it forced you to pick a path that someone else was already generally ahead of him in. I recently replayed with him for a while, and realized how useful he can be.

Besides, making sure to kill Seymour with self destruct every time you meet him is hilarious. xD

I'll admit that I didn't really see too much in Kimahri.

I rarely used him in battles and I didn't really like his character. It just bored me to be honest.

I'm usually the sympathetic type, but I didn't really feel sorry for him that much. It just felt like he got in the way a bit and wasn't really someone I'd miss if he were to leave the group.

Sounds horrible I know, but I'm just being honest and telling my thoughts on the subject. >_<

I found Kimahri to be very useful. Since he doesn't have his own path set out for him, he can very unpredictable, which is a good thing. You want him as more of a healer? Steer him towards Yuna's path. Black mage? Put him on Lulu's. Kimahri can end up as one of your best fighters depending on what path you choose for him. As for his character, he didn't seem too bland at all. I actually though it was funny that he didn't talk that much.

I tended to move him all over the board... started on Tidus's path so that I could have another quick hitter that had auron's strength. Then moved him around the grid using teleport sphere's to move him to the start of someone else's line.

If you're prepared to use a teleport sphere early on, Khimari is a godsend, sending him down peoples' paths in the reverse direction. I took him backwards down Tidus' path originally, passing into Yuna's about halfway down when I could. This meant that I had a fast, reasonably decent-hitter with advanced support magic of Tidus'and basic white magic on my team that could pull out anything whenever was necessary. I also gave him some black magic spells, too.

With regards to the plot, Kimarhi was one of my favourite characters. There is just something so intriguing about him, and he acts as an excellent lampshade for the other characters.

As I said I followed Tidus as far as it took me to get a teleport sphere. Then moved him to the start of Yuna's path so that he had some heal magic and took it till he had Revive and Curaga.
Then moved him onto Wakka's Path so that he was able to cause darkness and silenece etc..

This allowed me to use him as a main character with Wakka and Tidus so that I could combine high magic with high strength and speed.

I didn't use Kimahri much in battle, I have to admit. But I LOVED his character. He is such a sweetheart. I absolutely adored him. And I agree with what other people said about the sphere grid...I was able to be very versatile with him. I did the same with other characters but for Kimahri it was a lot easier.

I loved Kimahri's character. He says so much with so little, and there are several incredibly amusing Worf Moments. "Pick spot. Shut up."

There is a kindness and nobility about him that appealed to me. And patience. And such loyalty. He didn't have to stick with Yuna for 10 years; Auron had just asked him to take her to Besaid.

Kimahri fulfilled a promise Auron couldn't. That's sort of symbolic. Auron's little chest-thump to Kimahri says a lot about him, I think.

I always found Kimahri incredibly useful, because I could have someone with Use and Steal in the group by the time I hit the Djose Highroad. Why does that matter? Petrify Grenades are so useful for customization (stoneproof!). You can't start collecting them too soon!

His Piercing weapons also meant a spare Auron around, only I tended to wind up with Kimahri faster and more accurate.

I liked Kimahri a lot, but I have a lancer/dragoon bias that carries over from game to game. Other than that, he seemed like a really cool, loyal character. I thought the Mt. Gagazet plot point was depressing - it felt like a real victory when Kimahri won that battle. I usually don't care too much about collecting enemy skills for blue mage characters, but he was useful anyway.

Picking up Marlboro Bad Breath for him was a hoot.

I also love Stone Breath, even though I think you don't get any items from petrified foes. There's something so satisfying about watching an Ochu go "ping" and fall into a pile of glitter. (And it's safer than giving someone a Stonetouch weapon -- have you ever seen confused!Wakka hit himself and turn himself into stone in mid-leap? Comical, but alarming.)

Not at all. In fact, he was extremely flexible. The point of Kimahri was to take him down the path you wanted. He could be whichever class you wanted to make him. It's fun having two black mages, him and lulu, or two powerful characters, like him and Auron. You see, you can take him down any path.

The whole thing about the beast man, it's actually quite genious. It's a way to write a story, have the different symbolic type characters such as the "Father Like" or the "Friendly Beast," that's what Kimarhi was, he was the friendly beast. Star Wars had Chewbacca, and that's exactly what Lucas was going for also.

They did pretty well to patch his story in there, even though he WAS a "B" character, I thought at least. It was him that took Yuna to Besaid, where she met everyone else pretty much and began to fulfill her destiny.

I am not really into animal-like charcters, like RedXIII from FFVII. I liked Cait Sith though.

I don't really like the Ronso. They are kinda strange and I just can't, no matter what, understand why they hardly wear any clothes even though they live on a mountain with snow... this is just stupid IMO.

I didn't like Kimahri in battle. He didn't have any specific "role" and was probably the most useless one.
Plot wise, he was average. Even though he has a sad past, I hardly could feel sorry for him, and I love sad stories.

Well this may be a bit off topic, but the Ronso's have fur ya know. Many animals/beasts survive cold weather because of their fur.
