I didn't see this posted anywhere else so I thought I'd make the poll. Out of these two Final Fantasy villains which one do you prefer and why? To be quite honest I think I prefer Kefka. Sephiroth was a better character IMO when he was good.

Kefka was evil because he wanted to be evil,
he succeeds in conquering the world, he poisons an entire city for shits and giggles,
and he goes, "Uweeheehee!"

Kefka for sure.

His personality is much more interesting than Sephiroth's. He's like the Joker from Batman, real evil and quirky in his own way. Sephiroth is kind of just like the cool bad guy...not interesting at all. If it wasn't for his looks and big sword, he's got jack. Kefka looks like an idiot, but he's still awesome.

Yes! He does remind me an awful lot of The Joker. I was hoping I wasn't the only one who was thinking that. This is why I'm always weary of crazy villains who either have the clown or the jester look.

Kefka.

And by the way, I found a video on Youtube to prove my point:

i prefer sephioth :)

sorry huge swords rocks and the way he always seems to come back to life... now that's a good villain :)

Kefka for me too. He was by far better developed than Sephiroth. Like mentioned earlier, Sephiroth is just cool in terms of looks and fighting style, but Kefka's insanity makes him a much more interesting villain.
Plus Kefka also accomplished more as a villain than Sephiroth. Once again that was mentioned already, so I won't repeat it.
The only really bad thing Sephiroth did is kill Aeris, which is nothing compared to how much mischief Kefka caused.

He's like the Joker from Batman, real evil and quirky in his own way.

YES! In every way possible may I add. Not only does he look like him, but acts like him too. And this is why I made this pic a few days ago:

Kefka all the way! He started the "angel of death" trend and when he wanted death, he got himself some death and laughed the whole way through. Sephiroth has his moments but there are times where I feel he's more style over substance. Take away the good looks and the long sword what do you have left exactly? Kefka knew how to get things done. btw that Kefka cosplayer was ace.

Ah, the old Kefka vs. Sephiroth debate. Personally, I prefer Sephiroth. I loved his ice-cold demeanour, elegance, monosyllabic answers, and his pure evilness. The moment I saw him walk through the flames in Nibelheim I knew straight away that I was dealing with a badass of epic proportions. And let's face it, aesthetically; he is the apotheosis of badass. Kefka was cool and evil too, but rather than being self-assured, calm and collected like Sephiroth, he came across as mentally-unhinged.

Sephiroth may make my vagina tingle whenever I see him or hear his voice, but I have to vote on Kefka. After personally fighting and examining the actions of most big adversaries of the FF series, I believe Kefka is the only one that actually knows how to have fun doing the naughty things he does. His laugh is epic as well, and he'd be the best joker in any circus.

Kefka. He was insane, evil, and actually accomplished his goal.

Sephiroth is like so many anime villians. Kefka was at least something different from your usual anime and VG villians.

And for the most part, Sephiroth felt absent from the game. You see him at the begining, when he kills Aerith, some flashbacks, and at the end. When I first played the game, he didn't have as much as an impact on me as he did other people. In fact, I found Shinra far more villianous and hatable.

I also feel that Square has twisted Sephiroth's character far from his original character from FF7 with all the sequels in an attempt to make him cooler.

And Kefka's die hard fans are far less annoying than die hard Sephiroth fans =P

Well this is a surprising development to say the least. I'm surprised at how many Kefka fans are present on the forum. When I made the poll I had a gut feeling that Sephiroth would take an early lead but look at this, Kefka is winning by a landslide so far.

I'm sure somewhere he's laughing while Sephiroth takes his anger out on another unsuspecting village.

^I think Sephiroth is more popular among ordinary gamers who either never fully played FF games or only played FF7 or maybe 1-2 other more popular titles. Kefka seems more popular among true FF fans, although there are some true FF fans who prefer Sephiroth more. Kefka just has more, or so I think anyway.

I like Kefka more because of his insanity and poor but comical jokes. i also like sephy, but he lacks character.

I prefer Kefka as my avatar will attest but I do not dislike Sephiroth at all.

I think both are very deep and marvelous characters when you read into what makes them tick.

Heck I would psychoanalyze them both right here and now if I though I could do it without posting several huge paragraphs. So I will simply write two small ones instead.

Still Kefka's motives are more or less original for any video game villain in that he wants to destroy everything and he is on some key levels different than the Joker that make him quite unique. Still he is a psycho clown so the whole trope ties them together but he is the most continuously successful villain in the FF series. He stands out and it is something to see a villain that does what they do at first as an evil human of low power and then as something on the level of a god. Most villains in FF start at that level of power or something greater.

Sephiroth does do the whole cool character villain but why he is so popular beyond that is that he does it so well. When you see a character with long white hair who is a villain do you say that he is a Sephiroth clone? Especially if he tries to be cool in some dark cold way... I do at first but it is just a gut reaction. He does the whole manipulation thing as good or better than most villains and through out the game you are not even sure if it is truly him or why this is happening.

So for the short answer... Both have their merits, but Kefka wins in my book...

Probably Kefka,but that's because I really don't like Sephiroth.

Although Kefka is not one of my 5,or 10 favorite villains ever.

Sephiroth, he just seemed epic, while Kefka seemed to be on pot. Sephiroth is one of theose characters who's just cool, you can't properly say why he just is. I think the canon slicing in Crisi Core really helped this image.

Hmm this is a very very tough decision.. The two big daddy villans of the ff franchise.. I'd love to see some sort of freddy v Jason spinoff shit with these two.. It would be epic! But to answer your question id declare it a tie..

Kefka is funnier and probably more psychotic.. but sephiroth is more intimidating and vengeful..

You know what... I found this and I think it pretty well sums it up!!!

This is simply the best Dissidia fight between these two I could find and the edit is as perfect as you could expect... Sorry but all the fights where Sephiroth wins neither of them look cool doing it...
