How the world was supposed to end at some point today, and yet people still decided to go to work and just generally go about their normal lives anyway. If this actually was the last day on Earth, you'd think people would find something better to do with their time.
 
Yeah, I highly doubt the world is going to end today...The only thing they're doing is creating a laser beam for next month's experiement when they actually do start to smash the protons together. They're doing it deep underground in a mountain or some shit. Now they're saying this affect can cause a black hole which will destroy the earth by 2012 or something like that, which is when the Maya calendar predicts the world will end.
 
I thought about this too.
My friend's younger sister kept saying 'I don't want to die in school!'
It is rather stupid, even though this was all over TV people still went to work and school.
I guess people somehow knew that it was going to be alright.

The Mayan calendar also predicts it'll be earthquakes that kill us though, not black holes.

So yeah, I don't think a laser beam is going to end the world. It'll be the proton smashing at the end of next month that could end the world. Seems as though they're not doing this all at once, but taking it slow.

yeah but havn't most scientists said its all ok, and a few crazy people reckoned the world would end!

Its like the people who went into meltdown over the millenium bug! ^_^
 
As I remeber, before 2012 there will be a war. Probably WW3. Then the planet Nibiru will either collide with Earth or there will be a major polar shift.
Earthquakes are caused by plates that move against each other or into each other. I don't see why would an earthquake kill all of humanity. Also, according to Nostradam the world is going to end in 3797 (or somethin' like that) but 2012 event would change the face of the Earth.
I'm not gonna go into much detail, look it up on Wikipedia :P

That's pretty much how I've gathered it. Look, if the world is going to end, it's going to end, there's nothing we can do about it. That's why they say live each day as though it were your last, because you don't know when it'll be your time. The scientists aren't doing this all at once, they're slowly testing, that's all they're doing. They're just trying to get more fact instead of just a theory on how the big bang happened. I just don't think the world is going to end over something like this. People chucked a spaz about Y2K, back in the 70s when they first set off the first nuclear bomb, people freaked out and said that was going to destroy the earth as well. People just need to relax and stop worrying about these things.

Now seriously, if this were the last day of my life I would run as fast as I can back home (seeing that in the moment I made this post I was at college) and dash towards my gf's home. Then I would enter her house and hug her saying that everything will be alright and that I'll be with here 'till the very end.

Now that would be sad :sad:

EDIT: Although, I've been asking myself, why to live if we are meant to die anyway? During those times I answer to myself "because I must live and make it worth!"

Actually the world ending during the cold war due to Nuclear bombs isn't as silly as it seems. It was a genuine concern, especially for continental Europeans.
What was stupid was that people thought Nuclear bombs caused droughts and changed weather patterns.
BTW the first nuclear bomb was set off in 1945:elmo:

guys, what you realise is that they said the world would end... they didnt say that the world would know about it, so it just keeps on going... as long as noone tells earth that its really dead we will all be fine :P honestly though the whole "end of the world" barrel has been opened so many times we need a new barrel...
