Is Mortality a good thing?

I see mortality as a good thing. Right now I'm not ready to die and I feel like I have a lot I want to do in my life yet...however I know that is going to change when I hit old age (70's/80's) when my body is starting to wear out, I start getting depressed because of the constant pains of old age, and my life starts getting lonely because I'll have watched a lot of my family and friends die. By that time I'll have reached the law of diminishing returns and I'll be ready for it to be over with.

This world can be a depressing one as well. If I were presumably immortal, why I would want to see lifetime after lifetime of depressing news headlines, seeing people suffer, and the hardships of daily life? I would find no comfort in the fact that everyone could get away from it in death while I was stuck here for the rest of my life. I don't think that life itself is anything that easy or that great for an unsurmountable period of time. I don't think I'm much of a martyr, but that's how I see the concept of immortality.
