This has been bugging me from the beginning to the end of Final Fantasy 4. In the DS version (I've heard differently about the Game Boy Advance version), we've seen plenty of scenes throughout the game that would make Cecil and Rosa seem like they really did have feelings for each other (
Rosa crossing the desert to find Cecil, Cecil and his party going after Rosa in the tower, etc etc.
); so it always bring me to one question:
How come they never kiss? All I ever see is embracing. No kissing. No matter how passionate they seem to show their feelings for each other, they haven't gotten any farther than kissing; and it just bugs me. Has anyone else noticed this too, and if so, does it bug you as much as it bugs me ?

I noticed it but I didn't think it was a big deal really. I mean, they were sprites anyway so you couldn't really tell whether they were kissing or not. I think the game was just more reserved in that way than some of the others. They clearly displayed their feelings for each other in other ways so there was no reason to try and toss in a kissing scene, imo.

FFX spoilers in My post so be warned.

I just don't think that's how Japanese people are, they aren;t really light on the emotion, Yuna and Tidus love each other no doubt but instead of saying "I love You" Yuna said "Thank You" (although they kiss)

But I think they wanted to show a more serious relationship for these two.

I agree with Tori and Claire. I noticed that Cecil and Rosa are never really kiss each other in the game, but it didn't bother me much because it was still clear that they loved and cared for each other. Like Claire said, they both showed their affection towards each other in other ways.

And maybe Cecil and Rosa have kissed, SE probably just decided to leave it up to our imagination.

I don't think a kiss should be all that necessary to indicate a strong romance. I'm sure there are a lot of couples in fiction that are never depicted kissing but still are portrayed to be in love with each other :hmmm:

FFX-2 never showed Shuyin or Lenne kissing, but we know they were in love. Heck, even Zidane and Dagger from FFIX never kissed, but we know they cared a lot about each other too (then again, they were 16, so maybe S-E didn't want to portray physical romance with anyone under 17?).

Actually the games we get here arent exactly the same as in Japan...alot of editing will be added incase something will give the game a different rating Like Siren ,in one game, had shorts added in my version where orriginally she had her but shown.
But I think since someone ells said it its most likely do to the charecters being sprites realy how can one tell if they kiss or not in that form?

That was one thing I noted too. It's normally for any FF couple under 20 that don't do too much to display physical attraction. Most of the characters in FFIV are adults - though Rosa is 19 and Cecil is 20, they did have a very strong connection, though I figured with that and also with what they have to do and go through during their voyage, it most likely hadn't crossed their mind to go any deeper than they already are. Or maybe I'm just a very big fan of deep relationships. I was told many times that they actually do kiss in the
Tower of Zot
on the GBA version. Even though it's the same basis with other FF games like IV and X-2, IV was really the only one I somehow had a bone to pick about this .

The feeling I got from it was that because they were already an established couple at the start of the game, it wasn't necessary to show something that was implied already :hmmm: I always felt like there was no question they would be married, and they seemed like they could be husband and wife at the start of the game with the way they acted. From what it seems, a lot of times when you see people in stories (movies as well) kissing, it's people who have never kissed before and it's supposed to be a dramatic moment for them. But a couple like Cecil and Rosa would probably kiss all the time, so to show one kiss in particular would probably throw off the consistency of important moments in the story, imho :hmmm:

Considering they were sprites, it's quite hard to have them embracing as it is. But who's to say that in one of those hugs there wasn't a kiss shared? I dunno. Barring X for the kiss scene, IV's couple has pretty much the most physical intimacy shown... Cloud never really embraces Tifa or Aerith... Zidane and Garnet don't share a moment (well until the very end)... Squall and Rinoa same thing, except for the Ragnarok scene but that's an abomination. :wacky:

I don't know the pairing too well, but it probably has to do with the fact that Japanese people usually don't like physical displays of love/affection. So I've been told, that is. :wacky:

I agree with all the posters above who think that Cecil and Rosa just didn't need any kissing scenes. They're the most serious FF couple I know of, without any real light-hearted moments. Their reunion embraces show about as much emotion as you could get with 16 bits, backed up by the soundtrack.
