I remember playing Star Ocean 2 where the number of deaths and escapes you did in the game was counted. At one point at the game, an NPC told me all those numbers and I felt so sad at that time, because I've always been a perfectionist. I want my game to be flawless.

Now, about FF8, I'm planning to defeat the crab/spider boss X-ATM092 with as little time as possible and farming as many APs as possible from it. Every guides say to either farm Thundagas by refining them from cards or train the Quetzalcoatl till it learns SumMag + 30%, or, have Zell's HP as low as possible for him to do his limit break with STR++ and Thunder magics junctioned to his elemental attack. The first option is not viable to me anymore as my save data is already at Dollet Town Square. So, what's the best option for me to defeat X-ATM092 without Thundagas? If I'm toying with Zell's limit break and accidentally has him killed, can anyone here assure me that there will be no point at all in the game where it will tell me how many times I let my character die or something? >.<

Thanks before :)

Character deaths are counted - Theres an item called the battle meter which tracks such stats.

Thanks, I suppose the obligatory 1st escape vs X-ATM092 won't be counted, right?

I can't honestly remember. That's a good question. I'm not sure it has escapes on there, or maybe it does. I haven't got a FF8 save with all 3 parts of the battle meter to tell you if it does or not. Sorry.

It's unfair if the escapes from a boss where you're intended to run away are counted. I'm not even sure you'd have time to kill it every time? Honestly, I say just run and don't look back. You'll have so much less stress.

Yeah you must escape on the first encounter with it and I learnt it the hard way. I only took a brief look to the "missable things" guides and noticed that the crab boss can be defeated (which changes a few things when you do defeat it), but I never knew that you can't defeat it on the 1st encounter. Took me about 40 minutes battling it until all of my magics were gone, and then it killed my party :D

Yeah, if the Quetzalcoatl's SumMag+30% doesn't help killing it 5 times then I'll just give it up and kill it just once :P

Anyway, the guides say you can farm like multiple 50 APs from it, like 5 x 50 APs if you reduce its HP to 0 5 times. But, if I have a GF's ability at 59/60 (for example my Shiva is learning "Doom" and its AP is at 59/60), and then I fight an enemy/enemies that give me 3 AP, I can't get the extra 2 APs allocated to the next ability that Shiva is going to learn (instead of 2/120 it becomes 0/120). So, I don't get the point to farm those APs if the extra APs are going to void anyway..

LOL the Galbadia Soldiers in Dollet now stock level 2 magics like Thundaras etc after grinding for a while. Do enemies level up as we do?

Yes the enemies will lvl up as you do, if you get your party to avg lvl of 20 I believe the enemies will start to carry the aga series spells. So you could easily get Thundaga to try and kill the metal spider. But the only place you can really kill it at is when it chases you by the bridge.

The easiest way to kill it would be stay at level 7 and use the card grinding method.

Actually I got it wrong. You get multiple 50 APs by escaping it multiple times..

Damn, the escape does indeed get recorded T_T

Anyway, this is my SeeD report:

Is it bad or good?

It's good. I think you got lower conduct because you might have spoken to people in the town, which you're not meant to do.

Or speaking to anyone at all in the beginning of the game, like at school or what not. The only times you won't get deducted is when the game forces you to speak, like showing Selphie around the school or not. Also with any of the cadets on the beach during the Dollet mission, as well as trying to leave the square before Seifer orders you to leave. Also believe there is a point deduction for not saving the dog as you flee from X-ATM092. Umm scratch all that, talking to people affects your Attitude score. Looking at the guide now xD Conduct is based on the time left on the clock when you are evacuating to get to the beach, having 25+ on the clock gets you a 100. Which in case means not fighting X-ATM092 more then once as the first mandatory fight and not getting caught in any other fight with him.

Looking at your points deducted which is actually your attitude score, you lose points anytime you talk to someone, anytime going to tower before Seifer orders, jumping off the cliff as a short cut(the one Selphie does) failing to save the dog as you flee, and using the café to escape the spider. But if you beat the spider you get a 100 point bonus.

Though honestly, the SeeD score doesn't matter up to this point. You have the opportunity to play through easy tests to raise your SeeD rank...and that is much easier than committing yourself to the hardships of the mechanical spider parts.

That's a really good score you got though :).

Yeah I always talked to people LOL

I did jump on my first try, but after I found out it reduce your point I went back to the save point in the town square to repeat. Also, I beat the spider on the bridge at like 00:30 time left XD

Yeah, figured you can raise it up later too :P

Btw, do you guys remember the graphics in Deling City being this bad? A few days ago when I was playing CSGO, my laptop got really hot and it gave a bit of burning smell and it caused the game (CSGO) to be kinda laggy. So I wonder if Square really intended the background characters to be that bad or there was something wrong with my laptop..

I knew it.. The FMV scenes were also weird, it's choppy and so dirty and Youtube videos also showed bad quality, the HD ones looked like 240p :(

Can anyone help me with this? Do you think I've burnt something? What makes the Youtube videos become choppy as well? It also happened with my previous laptop, damn I've never learnt..

Does anyone have a save point near this event? If there's any, please try to screenshoot this scene for comparison >.<
