On a different FF site called thefinalfantasy.com I started
sending PM's to various & different people then a reading
came up that said I was banned for spamming Private
Messages; what does this mean? What did I do wrong? I
didn't even know I did anything wrong; I was just wanting to
gain friends right away and start e-mailing them and
chatting every day or however often they are available
online.
Also, what was the first "random question" when I
registered just earlier? Wasn't it: "What company makes
Final Fantasy?" and I put "Square Enix."
P.S. What is spam?
P.S.S. What does the Sig of the Week say on our Forums
here at FinalFantasyForums.net?

spam is random talk, basically a thread with no importance other than to amuse/shoot the breeze.

The sig says lara croft ninties style

hi :|

Spamming PMs is sending numerous unsolicited PMs to random members. That was probably against their site's rules.

The question about the makers of Final Fantasy is a security measure to ensure you're a person and not a spambot.

Hey Terrible Terry Tate! I have a question for you or whoever reads this! What does "unsolicited" in the above reply to my thread mean and is spamming PMs against this site's rules? I didn't read that it was when I registered but I also didn't read much of the FAQ either.

Not asked for. Out of the blue. Random.

It's not specifically against site rules unless you're trying to advertise something. But if you become a nuisance about it, and members report you, there may be some problems. Also, there are better ways to "gather friends." Namely, by simply being active on the site.

you should post in the ShoutBox a lot, thats how i got all my friends on this site :D everyones pretty welcoming.

Ya the shoutbox is the best way to get to know people man. PMing people can come come across really needy and is definately the wrong way to go about it. Just strike up some casual conversation or join in on a topic etc etc

Liez. :ahmed:

The best way to gain friends if to join a Fanclub. That way you already have a point of interest, instead of going into the SB and randomly joining a conversation.

I made my friends through REP+ coz i give REP easily:wacky:

Is that like Soliciting a prostitute?:hmmm:
5 out of 6 Members in this thread are right, the SB is best for establishing friendships, but Clubs are good for finding a common ground, or that could be the other way around.

But Spammy PM's are not the way to do it, I wonder of this is the Pathetic PM Lewis alluded to in the VETS Lounge?

Admittedly, I would be annoyed if a random PM came out of the blue without knowing the person before hand who had sent it. That's just how I am though. Some people feel different about the issue than I do.

Shinya makes a good point. When I first joined up, I found it hard to talk with others in the ShoutBox or certain threads because they were not familiar with me. Through fanclubs and overall discussions on what made me a fan of SquareEnix earned me a few good friends.

Become an active member and others notice you! :]
