I have tried to find the answer to this on the internet already but no one explains in their answers exactly how to achieve solving this.

Basically I have a cheap Dick Smith MP3 player with all my awesome songs on it and I want to hook it up to the PS3 and transfer all my songs onto the hardrive. Is that too much to ask? :gonk:

Does anyone know if this is possible? Are there only certain types of MP3 players that are compatible with the PS3?

If this is possible can you please explain to me step by step what I have to actually do to get the tracks saved onto my hardrive.

Please don't just say something like, "Yeah everybody knows how to do that." Or something. I'm getting old and this technology thing is giving me the shits these days. :rage:

Any help is much appreciated! :gasp: <3

The only way I can get songs onto my Xbox 360 is by burning them onto a CD and then ripping them. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same with the PS3.

CD-R Blanks aren't that expensive nowdays though. I'd also advise against using CD-RWs, however. It's just something with them and they are known for their incompatibility with a lot of shit.

I dont think your able to trasnsfer songs from an mp3 player to the ps3 hardrive.
Doing what derek said will work or using a portable storage device then simply transferring them works aswell.

Im not 100% but im fairly sure you cant just transfer it from yer mp3. Sorry:sad:

Thanks for your help guys but I just found a video on YouTube that says you can put songs onto a normal USB Stick and transfer them that way.

I just followed the instructions and it's uploading all my songs onto the PS3 as we speak!

Wootage! It can be done!

Now I just have to wait for it to finish uploading so I can test to see if they play.

EDIT: It works!

I guess I'm a bit late in this thread. Shit, the one time I know the correct answer! Most of the time you want to avoid ripping off MP3s and iPods and the like onto your PS3 anyways. It "codes" most of, if not allthe names into letters and numbers, so when you'd try and it rip it your Barney theme becomes 6FTR9 or some such shit. It plays, you just gotta rename a bunch of songs.

Flash drives, SD cards and external harddrives are the way to go. :pockets:

My PSP works as a flash drive and my friend's external hard drive works too, but it just takes so much longer to load shit that way on the xbox 360. There's always this really long Pause before it plays another song off an external source too :hmph:
