How often do you replace your laptops/desktops?

Just wondering whether you're the type of people who tend to replace their computers either once a year or once every two years. I personally haven't had to replace my laptop since it's worked like a horse for the better part of 3 years although it does seem to be slowing down at a faster rate now. I'm looking to replace in about a couple months when I can buy a newer one from family for $250.

Well, I inherited my first from a family friend back in 2001. I still have this computer, though it has been heavily modified over time. I basically rebuilt the whole thing from the motherboard out, so only the chassis is the same. :lew:

I then got a Dell for Christmas in 2003, which was a really good computer for its time. I still run this computer today, but it acts as more of a hub to have my external hard drive connected to. I did get a trojan with it once a few years back that forced me to format my hard drive, and that's the only time I've had to do that. And the only upgrade it got was added RAM, which is simple enough.

Now I use my HP laptop that I got for Christmas last year. This machine is a beast overall. I have little things happen to this one that annoy me, but runs like a champ regardless. But with that said, my older desktops run like champs as well. :ryan:

So really, I still have all the computers I've owned and they still run great. :ryan:

I bought my first computer back in 2004 and I had it up until last year. It was a HP.

So it was running fine for around six years but gradually it got a few viruses and just started to slow down in general.

I still have it hooked up as all my music is still on it, but I don't ever use the internet on it as it's just too slow. >.<

I got a new Acer last year and it's fantastic!

Not had any problems with it as yet and I hope I don't for a long time as I'm still paying it off. XD

I'm not one to just go and buy a new computer because I need to have all the latest updates and such. I just buy a new one when I need one.

My first laptop was a Toshiba back in 2004, which I loved because I received it for my 12th birthday. I've had it for just over 3 years before it encountered a series of viruses and trojan horses - and eventually some kind of internal problem where the slightest of nudges and movements to the laptop while it is on causes it to automatically shut down. Even PC World was incapable of fixing it completely, but fortunately it still kind of works.

My replacement (and current machine) is a Sony Vaio that was handed down to me in spring 2008. It was originally my brother's for about a month or so until he allegedly won a Macbook from a competition somewhere. As expected, he decided to give me the Sony, seeing as my old Toshiba was seemingly on its last legs. Spec-wise, my machine is rather underwhelming, but it's a robust machine after all. It slowed down a bit over the couple of years, but there's nothing really wrong with it - bar the fact that a bunch of my keys have their letters completely worn out and faint.

So for about 4 years I have only had two machines. This one is fine and can probably make it for a couple of more years. So I'm not the type of person who changes machines that often at all, or the type of person who's always after the next best model of laptop. It has all my important files on it as well as programs and such. To replace it every year or so would just be bothersome and unnecessary. If it works, it's fine. :3

I don't buy new computers any more. I simply replace old parts when they need to be upgraded, and so far this is working out for me. I got a GTX 275, 8GB of Dominator RAM, an i5 CPU, a new Acer motherboard and a few other little enhancements last year... thinking of getting a new Radeon card this year as well as a new power supply. Hopefully my cooling system will continue to hold out.

I had my first laptop for about 4 years, I think it was a Toshiba, and it was great at the time, but it ended up slowing down, keys fell off and then I think I either burned out the hard-drive, since I used to keep it on my bed without any fans or anything, or messed it up by placing magnets all over the laptop >_>

I've had my desktop for two and a half years, and it still works fantastically now. It's a dell and I think it's just wonderful. 4GB of RAM and a 750GB hard-drive, and it's done everything I've ever asked it to do perfectly. Unless it starts to slow down, or it messes up, I can see myself keeping it for at least another 4 years.

Although, I now have an Acer laptop that my dad bought me for Uni, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB Hard-drive, so, once again, that has pretty much everything I'll need to use it for a long time. I haven't used it much, since I'm still at home until the end of this month and have full use of my PC, but, I think I'll be able to keep this laptop throughout 4 years at Uni, at least.

So really, I don't like replacing my PC unless it stops working, If my first laptop didn't break so badly, there's a really high chance I'd probably have upgraded anyway, but I would have used it for at least two more years. I think.

the computer i am using now was originally a windows 95, ive had it for 15 years and it still works. however i have done work on it, i put more memory in it and upgraded it to windows xp pro and she works fine, no need to change it now :) if it blow up then fine ill get another one

I've got a Fujitsu Siemens lap top at the moment which I got back in 2005. It was an absolute beast when I bought it, so it still does everything I ask of it reasonably well, but it is starting to show its age a little. I'll probably be looking to replace it within the next year or so, and this time around it will probably be a desk top computer. I made the mistake of buying a lap top with a huge screen and it's quite heavy too, so I never really thought it was worth the effort to take it anywhere. Might as well get a bit more value for money next time if I'm not going to be lugging it around anyway.

I usually replace computers or laptops every 4-5 years. I had my current computer for about four years but it was modified recently after it crashed from viruses about 4 times so it's basically a new computer. I have had my laptop for about three years and I never had any problems with it so I find that there is no reason to replace it.

I got my first computer back around 95-96ish and I think I've had three since then. I pretty much just replace them when they get destroyed beyond repair (with the exception of my first computer which I replaced because it was shit house). :monster:

I got the one I'm currently using about this time last year. My mate gave it to me because my old one died in the middle of the uni semester. Then after a few weeks he said I could keep it as a birthday present.

I've never owned a laptop or anything like that.
