I played KHII, but didn't play KHI (read the plot on wikipedia though).

How much do you think it ruined my enjoyment from the game?
Do you think it ruined everything? Or it not really matter as long as I knew the characters?

My enjoyment from the game was average. I am not really into Action RPG games, but I think the gameplay was nice. I expected more from the plot though. Most of it was about helping others and I think only the ending was really outstanding.

But guess I quite liked it overall and I plan to play all other GBA/DS games.
As well as the PS3 one... if it'll ever come out :P

Well if you enjoyed yourself then it shouldn't matter if you play the first one or not. I think it might help with it more if you did play the first though. I certainly enjoy both games and haven't played them in awhile (no PS2). I'd like to play KH again but it's not a top priority atm. It's a good thing you read what the story was and all before KHII though, I'd imagine you would have been very lost as to what's going on if you hadn't.

Personally, I found Kingdom Hearts to be better than Kingdom Hearts II both in storyline and gameplay, as it had a more gripping storyline and there was less button mashing, the latter was a killer for KHII. However, I don't think not playing KH will made much of a difference as the brief scenes when you're Roxas and other scenes fill you in a fair bit, although you still may be confused at some points, I think you may have enjoyed KHII had you played the first one as it was the better game imo xD

I hope you do eventually play KH1 (and CoM if you can :3) and not just stick to info from wiki. The game itself is way better info than text on a website ;D

As for the order...It's true you do get a decent amount of info at the beginning of KH2 that kind of set's up for the story of KH2, but I can't really see someone being absolutely satisfied with info from just KH2.

I mean, if you never went on to wiki and only played KH2, can you honestly say that you had no questions? That nothing kept pricking at your mind? :gasp:

EDIT: I think I need to replay KH1, it's been a long while, but for now I'll say I enjoyed KH2 more. I've already played it more times than KH1

The "original" Ansem from KHI is far superior to any bosses in CoM or KHII. His entrance alone is one of the reasons I beat KHI. His speeches are one of the better villians' speeches I've read/heard, as is his motivation.

Plus, the KHI storyline is far more linear and "traditional" in its approach (i.e. journey of discovery). KHI (when it was still just Heartless) storyline had a more "epic" feel to it with Sora fighting to protect each of the worlds. KHII storyline is all over the place with Sora fighting the nobodies for no real reason.

Yeah, that's what you missed.

I don't think it would ruin the experience just b/c you played the second first. You should play the first one just b/c it lets you know what led up to the second. Plus longer gameplay. Without reaction commands to make everything easy although they were fun to watch lol. Plus better stroyline and more sidequest and stuff like that.

The one thing about KH 1 that I'd like in KH 2 was the door between the heartless and the real one. As soon as I saw KH 1 though, I thought it'll be all Disney stuff which then I didn't enjoy, so I didn't buy and play it. Then my cousin urged me to buy KH 2 and I did, turned out that I missed things from both KH 1 and Chain of Memories. It only ruined a bit of my enjoyment cos I didn't know the story then.

If you enjoyed the game then no I don't think you ruined it too much for yourself, but considering that it's a continuation of the events from number one you would find yourself getting lost at times I would imagine.

Summarys and information on games storylines don't always do it justice and can't account for everything that took place in the game.

It wouldn't hurt to go back and play it though. You may find yourself figuring out things you didn't understand in number two and thanking yourself for it.

If you didn't play the first one you won't find yourself really attached to the characters enough to care too much for the second in my opinion. Most people who play the first game can't wait for the second in order to find out what happens next etc. You don't get that kind of excitement by just jumping into playing the second one. XD

I doubt it will ruin your enjoyment at all.
The main things that might is the gameplay, I think the battle system is better in KH2, I think it's a lot more fun.
Also the camera angles in KH are annoying at times. Besides those two things, which may not affect you, it's as good a game as KH2.
