Oh this story will keep going until cloud's grandchildren die trying to save the world and it all blows up. We will probably all be dead by the time that they come out with the final installment.

Lord almighty if it comes to Cloud's Grandchildren, I hope I'm not alive to see it![]()
Knowing SE, they're not going to produce much of an ending at all. I can see them making ambiguous ending after ambiguous ending over and over again to entice speculation and more room for yet another sequel (and so on).
Ehh....I think we're fine as it is. Yes, Genesis is revived in DoC's secret ending, but according to the Crisis Core Ultimania (as Nomura said himself), he isn't off to take revenge on the Planet as it is, but to actually protect it in repayment for Minerva helping him defy degradation and death at the end of Crisis Core.
That does admittedly leave room to ask who Genesis has to protect the Planet from of course. But I would think this ending is fine as it is. I just accept the fact that there is always going to be a threat, both seen and unseen. If there is to be further continuation though, an anime series would be enough.![]()
FF7 will end when the money does. It doesn't matter where the story is when that happens. When it is no longer making money it will be over. However, there are some (myself included) who belief that will never happen.
It'd be artsy if we had a sort of full circle ending though with the Red and the other doggy things running toward the ruins of Midgar but in super high def graphics. I hate FF7 and even I'd find that neat.
