So like, Im chocographing, and accidentally got off my chocobo on an island instead of taking off and I managed to get myself into a fight with some cute looking little ram sheep thingies

...

They handed me my arse good and PROPER

I managed to escape with only Zidane alive and barely any hp left. They were Cometting and Virus powedering me left right and centre

WHAT WHERE THOSE DECEPTIVELY CUTE LITTLE THINGS? :gasp:

This can't have only happened to me >_>
 
Those sound like Yans, they're really nasty enemies to run into XD - there is also a 'friendly' Yan who you have to find if you find all the other 'friendly' enemies in the game (the ones who ask for Ore etc and then give you lots of AP if you give it to them), and giving it a Diamond means you get 50 AP and can use physical attacks against Ozma

But you don't want to run into the bad ones, as you found out!

Actually got my butt wooped by these Yans many times. First time i encountered them i got killed. I was mad. i trained and came back and they kicked my butt again. I final beat them but geez, worst enemies next to ozma lol.
 
I can't remember specifics in fighting them, but I remember that look. That evil but cute stare they give out. Personally I think the monster designs in FF9 are realy fantastic, I love them.
I remember them being tough though, and giving me a hard time.
 
Yep, you definitely encountered Yans. Don't even attempt them unless you're lvl 75 or more. Like someone else pointed out, they're the hardest enemies besides Ozma.
 
Even if your lvl 99 they can still nail you if you are caught unawares! and it's weird how you get dominated by sheep!
 
Lol, messin around on Vile Island, eh? There are easier ways to get the Dark Matter card.

I'm sure by now someone, else has informed you that you encountered Yans. I'm also sure, by their nature, that you encountered three of them at once. Very nasty business, I usually just run. I never really fight the Yans unless I only encounter one or two of them, slightly more manageable.

DO NOT do attacks that damage everybody because meteor is one of their counter attacks and when you attack them all, they all attack you back with it. Try to find just one or two, focus on only one at a time, you'll be fine if you're around 55 - 60'ish
 
I was only on there because I was looking for the friendly Yan, and yeah I walked into a group of 3 of them, even after I beat Ozma I still couldn't beat them so....yeah Im a big poof, I can't beat them haha

Yans. Definitely. I encountered them before while I was level 70. I died as well. -__-
 
Yans = Annoyingly hard things to beat but deceptively cute. They're also amazing training for before you battle Ozma :)
 
ARGH, STUPID YANS! I encountered one by accident and I was bulldozed. I never went back to that island ever again. I mean, the Meteors really killed off my party. And Virus is annoying as *bleep*.

But they are JUST SO ADORABLE. Kinda remind me of the sheep monster from Maple Story.

Lol, nobody said that three Yahns are easier to beat than Ozma. If you don't fight them right, I'm pretty sure three Yahns will mangle you long before Ozma would have the chacne.
 
Ye... I'm surprised you'd have went to fight them all the way...

Usually, if i spot them, my automatic reaction tells me to escape (I could never defeat them in battle, strangely, despite my fairly high levels at that stage.)....
 
I wasn't kidding. Three Yans are more difficult than Ozma. I'm not sure that it much matters what level you're on. The key to fighting them is strategy, you aren't just going to power-house through them or anything.
