"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree" they say. Braska and Yuna; although his death separated Braska from his daughter Yuna while she was still in her youth, he had a lasting impact on her that played perhaps the biggest role in shaping her character traits and life.

Braska took the duty of defeating Sin on his shoulders as he pilgrimaged over Spira with only a fallen monk warrior (now Ronin) such as Auron, and a drunken former star athlete in the likes of Jecht. Defeating Sin in the end and sacrificing his life to summon the Final Aeon to bring a temporary peace to the lands and people of Spira is what he is best known for.

Following in the highly acclaimed shadows of Braska, Yuna steps up to take on that task one more time, looking to put an end to Sin...permanently. With 6 of her closest friends in life now acting as her guardians, she succeeds in her duty and even goes beyond that. Sure her sacrifice may not have been given through her death, but her broken heart at the end is quite the suffering it seems.

Both with tremendous success and enduring hardships in their life...who do you think made the better High Summoner?

Even playing the devil's advocate, I can't come up with an argument to say "Braska", so I'll go with the most simple and obvious answer and say Yuna. Why? ...well, she defeated Sin. Permanently. Forever. Dead. He's not coming back. On top of that...she's still alive. I'd call that a better accomplishment, personally - getting the job done more efficiently and staying alive long enough to see the results. xD

They were both equals, when it came down to it they were both prepared to sacrafice their lives for the good of the people. Really the only difference between them is that at the end of Yunas pilgrimage sin was completely destroyed. I dont think this made her a better summoner, she merely found a better way of fighting sin.

I'm going to have to say they're equals too. Taking on such a huge task was not something to be taken lightly and yet both with willing to take it on, knowing full well that they would lose their lives in the process. All that effort, all that work, just to defeat Sin. To bring Spira the Calm for a couple of years. It barely seems worth the loss of their life, yet both were still determined to protect Spira.

Sure, Yuna killed Sin completely, but Braska went through the same hardships as she did and lost his life. That makes them pretty even in my book.

:wacky: Though Yuna is alive.

Yuna has to be the better summoner because Braska didn't survive. Although Braska only had 2 people helping him and Auron must of been quite shi_ because after going through all that he was a very low level when he met up with Tidus.

Yuna brought on the eternal calm, braska just did what every other Summoner before did and brought on the calm for however long it was

So, Yuna hands down for me

Damn, you just can't be non conformist with this one! Gotta go with Yuna. Breaking the Cycle of Death + Eternal Calm > Futile sacrifice. Not that I don't think Braska (and all the other High Summoners who died) were awesome and brave and all that, but it's who's the better High Summoner, not character.

One point for Braska is that I'm sure he wouldn't have become a moronic doormat who made an ass out of himself in a sequel game if he had lived.

I agree with lagunas dream.

I can't remember but I don't think Yuna actually came up with the plan to defeat Sin in the way that they did. Wasn't it her guardians who worked it out?

I'm sorry, but what? Did you even play the game? That doesn't even have any relevance to the discussion at hand here. Busta is asking who is the better summoner? Braska died because in order to the call the Final Aeon to defeat Sin, it kills the summoner. Yuna survived because they didn't use the Final Summoning, so to speak. In the end, it didn't matter how many guardians each summoner had or which ones were the strongest or what level they were at in terms of gameplay.
What mattered was which guardian the summoner merged with to make that guardian the fayth and that fayth would become the Final Aeon.

Now, back on topic, who do I feel was the better summoner? It's really hard to say, quite honestly. I think both Braska and Yuna are equals in some terms, but in others I feel Yuna is superior to her father. Braska went and did what all the other High Summoners did, he went on a pilgrimage, achieved the Final Aeon, fought and defeated Sin temporarily. Where as with Yuna, they put their heads together and found a way to truly defeat Sin and bring upon the Eternal Calm. Braska lost his life just like all other High Summoners in the past did. I think Busta really sums it up what with Yuna's heartbreak at the end of the game. So in conclusion, I do feel that it was Yuna who was better High Summoner.

I think both summoners inevitably have their good points.

First, utter selflessness. They are both willing to die to bring about a temporary Calm for the people of Spira. It is pretty remarkable that they are able to keep their resolve even as they get closer, even where summoners like Father Zuke, Issaruu and Donna have given up. Yuna's resolve is seen throughout the game, Braska's is seen in the spheres that can be found in the game.

Secondly, Their kindness. Braska was shown in the spheres to be very sociable to his guardians and on friendly terms. Also, his sphere to Yuna sayng he will always be with her is a great example of his compassion. Yuna shows compassion shown in her emotions during the sendings she perfroms during the game.

However, I would have to say that Yuna is the overall better summoner, due to the close bond she has with the aeons, her guardians, and most of all, in her willingness to change what's been there for one thousand years. She isn't refusing to die out of cowardice, she just doesn't want false hope and teachings. Through her change, she brought the Eternal Calm to Spira.

Even though they both had qualities that made them brilliant summoners, overall, Yuna made more progress with less sacrifice.
